After this weekend’s Round 7 games

4 teams will have their 2nd bye - Footscray, Port Melbourne, Brisbane and Gold Coast
3 teams yet to have a bye- Coburg, Essendon and Sandringhsm

In fact when Sandringham have their first bye in Round 10, Gold Coast have their 3rd and last bye that round
The way the byes are structured is absurd, but Round 7 is Port Melbourne's first bye, not counting the competition-wide bye for the SANFL v VFL game

Standalone's seem to be doing better this year. Southport and Williamstown up the top end as was thought, but Port, Frankston, Werribee all around the mix for the 10. Even Sandringham who I think some thought would be Bullants level stragglers have been super competitive, minus the game against North.

Coburg seem to be the most disappointing. I know they had a good win on the weekend, but I thought they’d take the leap like Frankston and be top 6 contenders.

Have enjoyed watching the Tassie games a neutral. Will be interesting to see how they go against Southport, Willy and some of the better AFL teams (The only 3 good ones they play are Box Hill, GWS and Sydney)

Last weekend shows that Coburg are a more capable side than their record suggests. They can't afford many mistakes from here if they want to be in the top 10 mix, but they're not out of contention yet.

Frankston also can't afford too many missteps. We don't have an easier draw like last year, and with how even the competition is I think 11 wins will be the minimum to make finals this year.

Wild day of results and awful kicking

Not sure how Werribee didn’t hold on and then not sure how Siggins didn’t finish them off

This race is wide wide open, unlike in almost every other year

Unfortunately the main reason for it is injuries another couple bad ones today

Went to Willy, gotta say I don't like their 3.15 pm starts.

Richmond were very competitive despite only having 2 AFL listed players, Willy not at their best and got a roasting from Justin Plupp at QT.

Much better in 2nd quarter and at HT, thought they would take control but Richmond hung in there and got within 7 late 3rd. Plapp again challenged his players at 3QT.

Willy eased away in the last but not at their best.

Coburg beating southport by 7 goals wasn't something I expected at all over there

Tassie were always going to finish strong

Tried to put it onto my homepage but the answer was 'unable to find'.
Similar problem here - I get the result "403 Forbidden". It was a great site so I hope this is a temporary problem. For the moment it is somewhat possible to navigate the site via the Wayback Machine, but the pages for pre-1897 stats still aren't loading properly for me there either.

Hmmmmm, came up in my browser, just accessed it and the AFL ladder is up to date, so it's being maintained, although some of the headline stories have been there a long time.

Accessed VFA for season 1886, South Williamstown drew 5 games and finished above Williamstown that year.

Am not a techo, so can't explain why you can't access, SS.

Good to hear, I'll quiz you on 150 years of final scores and ladders the next time I see you at the Willy CYs.

This is off topic, I know, but the recent article about Dennington FNC forfeiting the remainder of its season after being belted in its first few games paints a pretty disturbing picture of the overall football scene in Victoria. As bad as things have been for our clubs at times, it seems that local footy is starting to struggle just as much. Clubs going into recess because they don't have the numbers for a full football side, or having to merge their u19s and reserves into a 'development' squad, massive blowouts between the best and worst teams.

There's been plenty of talk in this board about the structure of the VFL and its place in the football landscape, but it seems that the entire system below the AFL needs to be looked at.

Then we have the AFL media department costing millions with duds like Barrett on over 200k , all that money should be back into grass roots footy , there is enopugh media without the AFL wasting it on duds , even the Indian cricket commentator Bharat is getting money out of it
