Looks like a strong year in store for the VFL. Coburg won by a couple of goals over GlenelgGood wins for the stand alones today. Port Willi Werribee Sandy and Coburg all got up in their games
A Sandy local told me on Friday that they don't expect to be very good , just hope the beat St KildaSandy win with a kick after the siren today. A poor last-quarter fadeout from Frankston. To make matters worse, Kobe Askew left the ground early and looks to be another addition to our injury list (I was also told today that Nick Burke will be out for the season with an ACL injury.)
Obviously you can't put stock in the results of practice matches, but I'm concerned going into this season. We've lost quality players in the offseason, the new guys are taking time to gel, and more are set to be sidelined by injuries for various periods. I don't think things are dire enough that we could miss finals this year, but I don't really see us hitting the same heights as 2025. This year is going to be a serious test of our resolve.
Yep, Glenelg didnt play their best side.Looks like a strong year in store for the VFL. Coburg won by a couple of goals over Glenelg
I doubt they'll be that good either, although I hope they can be reasonably competitive because that's important in attracting supporters. What will ultimately decide their fate is whether locals get back on board with the club.A Sandy local told me on Friday that they don't expect to be very good , just hope the beat St Kilda
Looked like a fair few missing from Coburg's team tooYep, Glenelg didnt play their best side.
I was able to film Saturday's practice game against Sandringham for anyone who wants a look.
It will be hard to encourage past and new supporters back to the Club, as with all Standalones.I doubt they'll be that good either, although I hope they can be reasonably competitive because that's important in attracting supporters. I don't record stats, no. I mainly film for the women's team and just record segments of men's games as a hobby. I only did the full game last weekend because I knew it wasn't going to be uploaded everywhere else (whoever was filming from the roof was doing it just for the team's match review, I believe.) I just don't have the time to go back through and record stats from the game.Well done. Really solid footage. Easy to identify the players which is always a positive. I see there was someone filming on the roof as well. That vision would be good to see as well.
As for the game. A little scrappy at times. But some nice passages of olay. Do u have the highest stat getters for each team? A few seemed to get a. It of the ball but I wasn’t suite who they were.
I completely disagree that "nobody" wants a reserves competition. What it confirms is that a national AFL reserves comp is once again off the table. Nobody wants it and it’s not gonna happen.
But not for at least 3 years. Unless something changes to the logistics and cost , it won't happen at allI completely disagree that "nobody" wants a reserves competition.
The stand alone VFL clubs are starting to get sick and tired of being the poor relation in thier own competition, and the fact every single AFL club has a dedicated reserves side except Hawthorn, Melbourne and Fremantle (and the former 2 basically control thier affiliate) means it could easily happen with very little effort
