VFL coverage

To the mods 76woodenspooners Magpie Girl Anzacday Jasper84 any chance you can ask the Chief to find out a bit more about this from other Clubs or even the AFL.

It’s best that you (or somebody else from our board) survey the other boards yourself. Admin normally frown upon folks spamming stuff across all boards, so recommend ...

(1) Respect that all boards do things differently and you make an effort to pose the question on each board in a way that is particular and relevant to that board (ie: don’t just spam copy and paste a thread OP on each board). Maybe even stage it.

(2) We’ll give Admin a heads-up what you may be doing and that the suggestion came from mods.

The Collingwood web site is so lacking in information on anything, not just the VFL, that I rarely consult it these days. I look at the AFL site and big footy and that's about all. It's not even worth looking for an up to date injury list there. I don't know how many people they pay to maintain it, but they are not earning their stipends.

Don't think they care to much about the VFL with how Little work they put in it this Season

CFC2010 came onto our board in an extremely respectful way. There was zero issue with that was presented and the only angst came about as the GFC coverage is shit - nothing to do with anything asked or brought to the board by CFC2010.

I doubt there would be any issue with the way the questions/comments were presented going forward.

It seems that Essendon is in the same boat as us.

Real amateur hour IMO.

I posted over our way the 5.00 membership surcharge. WE have 50k members so thats 250k. In one year.

Bigger membership bases would generate more revenue and for us at KP and you lot at either VP or whereever you play your home games, its a one time set up cost and then maintenance after that.

Not to mention the utilisation will increase with AFLW and VFLW and those costs could be spread out over those operations as well. But anyway, it seems like a plausible solution to the issue. Im sure there is more to but its a start.

Add the Kangaroos to the list of teams not getting a replay.

It seems to me that it is AFL driven.

You can now add the Dogs to that list. That's 5 Clubs.
I refuse to go to the Blues, Dees and Tigers board.

It sounds to me like our Club is talking porky pies about resources.

Maybe tag lukem (when I typed this, his name didn't come up, is he still a member?) when we are discussing this and also refer to the Age article I posted and asked what happened to the promise of better coverage?

Haven't seen him around for ages Maggie5.

Its obvious it isn't a priority for all Clubs......sad IMO......I guess I will just shut up about it now no one likes a whinger.

Apparently he got sacked because he is responsible for filming Collingwood VFL games

Chiming in again on this subject as someone who works specifically in digital sports media in Melbourne, but also as someone who has worked across multiple large corporations - there isn't just one big pile of money that everyone gets to draw from to pay for things. Specifically regarding the budgets of VFLW, AFLW and netball as opposed to the digital media team for the AFL side of things, that just doesn't work that way.

Collingwood AFL Digital Media department would be allocated a budget for the year which they can spend on staffing, technology etc. That would be measured against how much money the department itself makes - through video advertising etc (turn off your https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/account/upgrades ;) if you want to help!). The netball team has its own budget, I'm sure, and has its own revenue too. It's totally separate.

And like I've mentioned in previous threads, digital media departments are expected to do a lot with little money. Putting a full game VFL video for example, would take HOURS of work. It's checking the audio levels, fixing them if needed, cutting anything out that needs cutting, adding an intro (it would be unprofessional to simply upload a raw feed), then the rendering of the video, the uploading of the video - it all takes longer because you're working with a 2 hour file. You can then say 'well that's your job!' but I'm sure there's other requirements on a day to day basis that take priority - videos for team and player reviews, working with any advertising campaigns across the website, cutting up other weekly video shows, writing articles etc.

Could they just have a Video Camera Connected to the Net and Use Youtube to Stream from it?

They Take Video's of the Full Game Themselves

Only if there's a good Wifi connection at every ground. It's also setting up the camera, ensuring it works in the conditions on the day, zooming and panning the camera (surely no one camera can capture the entire ground), making sure the feed doesn't cut out mid game etc. Who's doing that? Is it someone who'd usually be tweeting from the Collingwood twitter and posting on facebook, cutting audio clips, retweeting videos from the AFL? They're probably busy as it is.

They they could Hire someone just to do that then?

I totally understand what your saying do dont get me wrong here. But most people on here would just be satisfied if someone from the club filmed the game and had it connected to a live facebook feed. Commentary would be handy but at a starting point it wouldnt be hard to at least give us the footage.

Thanks for your insight but I think you are missing Dave's and our point.......including the supporters from Geelong.

The NFNL records every game and uploads them. One camera........no audio.
Every NFNL senior men’s match is filmed by Sportscast Australia

https://nfnl.sportscastcloud.com/division-1/four/

Not sure if you saw the Bullants V Pies coverage?? If you haven't seen it jump on YouTube.......although you're are the expert I would be staggered if that production cost a heap of money.

I just saw the banner on that website, it specifies down the ground video costs $550+GST for, I assume the full match, which is aimed at coaches. So they seem to cover their own costs by selling the vision to clubs. Which is a great business model, I have to say. In fact all of their products seem to be geared at being sold to clubs. It's very monetised. So they're not just doing it for fun.

The Northern Blues v Collingwood VFL match was the only match the Blues streamed the full game of, and that had a sponsor attached. It's likely they thought Collingwood would draw lots of viewers and sold the match to a sponsor to cover costs.

If the Pies could get a sponsor on board to cover the costs of live streaming every Collingwood VFL match (assuming Channel 7 don't already have the rights to the coverage) I'm sure they would.

I think Tradedraft could supply the commentary...bloody scumps :rage::rage::rage:

Agree, rarely go there other than to check player profiles. WOFTAM.

I didn't see the cost of $605.00.......that is peanuts.

Like the Cats supporter suggested we just pay a little extra in our membership.

21 games X $605.00 = $12,705.00 Per Annum

$12,705.00 dived by 70,000 members = .18 cents each member.
Make it an extra $1.00 in the membership and throw in the some commentating.
We wouldn't even need it to be sponsored at that price.

I am pretty sure kiss cam cost our Club more than that.

Thanks for your input.......IMO its the AFL that is stopping this and not our Club.

Then would it be Quite Easy for Collingwood to get a Sponsor they could use with VFL Coverage?
