VFL flags don't count.

Here's a thought, if only flags won under the AFL moniker count then Port are still at the rear with just 1. Yet they have still recorded the most severe belting in Grand Final history.

All class at Alberton.

The PAMFC has won 36 SANFL flags. This is 100% official as confirmed by both the PAMFC club and the SANFL; official PAMFC and SANFL records also list Fos Williams as the PAMFC 1950 B&F winner.

It seems your viewpoints depend entirely on being oblivious to the records of every league you've ever laid claim to playing in. Once again, the duality of your club is frightening when compared to the 100+ year history of the AFL.

Yes and there's lots of "official" websites claiming Taiwan is part of China. Your point?

The answer to this debate is very simple.
There are 2 parts which cover the entire gamut of discussion, and neither are in the least bit debatable. So consider this a spoiler warning for all those who are enjoying themselves to much to want to stop now...

The 2 parts to encompass this well worn tiff are as follows...

1. The AFL is a football league which started in 1896. All flags won from it's first year to it's last are an inextricable part of the leagues history, and will be counted as such in perpetuity.

2. The teams in the inaugural year of the AFL (then known as the VFL) were: Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Geelong, Fitzroy (nka Brisbane), Melbourne, St. Kilda, South Melbourne (nka Sydney). These are the only clubs to whom the result of the premiership competitions between the years 1896 & 1908 are relevant to the histories of.
Then, from 1908 the subsequent premiership results became relevant to the history of Richmond too, as they were competing in the league from thence forth.
Then, from 1925 the subsequent premiership results became relevant to the histories of Hawthorn, North Melbourne and Footscray (nka Western) too, as they were competing in the league from thence forth.
Then, from 1987 the subsequent premiership results became relevant to the history of West Coast too, as they were competing in the league from thence forth.
Then, from 1991 the subsequent premiership results became relevant to the history of Adelaide too, as they were competing in the league from thence forth.
Then, from 1995 the subsequent premiership results became relevant to the history of Fremantle too, as they were competing in the league from thence forth.
Then, from 1997 the subsequent premiership results became relevant to the history of Port Adelaide too, as they were competing in the league from thence forth.

EPILOGUE: From 2011 the subsequent premiership results will become relevant to the history of Gold Coast too, as they will be competing in the league from thence forth.
Also, From 2012 the subsequent premiership results will become relevant to the history of West Sydney too, as they will be competing in the league from thence forth.

We hold these truths to be un****withable, but keep talking shit if you're having fun.:thumbsu:

Yes and there's lots of "official" websites claiming Taiwan is part of China. Your point?

But hang on... I'm not sure which understanding we're applying here...

Your understanding of Port Adelaide: Taiwan is China and always will be... it simply switched competitive environments.

Your understanding of AFL: The PRC was founded in 1949 and the China that Taiwan once belonged to simply doesn't exist anymore; nor does Taiwan for that matter.

But allow me to digress to logic and reality for a moment. Do you know the official name of Taiwan is the Republic of China? Do you know that Taiwan constitutionally claims sovereignty over Mainland China and up until the 90's the Taiwanese government claimed to be the true government of Mainland China?

That's right; both China (PRC) and Taiwan (ROC) acknowledge they are one and the same. So aside from showcasing that your lack of understanding extends beyond football... what's your point?

So you cant see the analogy between both the PAFC and the PAMFC/SANFL claiming Port's history and the fact that Formosa and the Mainland both claim to be the real China?

You keep posting these tables, with various different totals.

You seem to think people actually care what you think.

I have news for you.

In spite of what you wish was true, and in spite of what you say, it's not actually zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

This has been going on for I don't know how long.... then the analogies will start, yawn , then more stats, then quotes from ex Magpie players, then links to ****ing press releases then blah blah blah .....

I said once before it's all about perception ...and most people cannot see the Power as the old Magpies..... hijacking a great club's history is intolerable...but they do it .....

year after year after.....

Some of them even put those flags in their sig.

What... like Victoria, SA and NSW all claiming to be the real Australia? If you want to use analogies, it's probably best to have some insight to begin with.

Officially; Taiwan is part of China, the VFL/AFL was founded in 1897, Carlton have won 16 VFL/AFL flags, Port Power have won 1 VFL/AFL flag, PAMFC was founded in 1870 and has won 36 SANFL flags, and Victoria, SA and NSW are all part of Australia.

Happy to clear it up for you ;)

lucky port have so many flags they can brag about, same with essendon, although port do have more flags than essendon

they are both goin pretty bad

1 is not more than 16. Port bragging about their SANFL flags makes as much sense as Footscray bragging about the 9 flags they won in the VFA. Nobody cares. The pre-1990 VFL is the equivalent of the post-1990 AFL. Anything won outside that league has no place being discussed here.

Good thread, 100% agree as it's only fair. This is not the VFL but the AFL. Brisbane/West Coast on top bitches! :thumbsu:

If we're going to start counting when West Coast and Brisbane joined the league, then the Hawks are on top with 4 flags. 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008 :thumbsu:

Even better if we start counting when Sydney "Joined" the league. Hawthorn Flags: 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008.

Total Senior Premierships and Challenge Cups Won by all the AFL clubs

Port Adelaide - Total 35 - 5 SAFA, 4 SAFL, 25 SANFL, 1 AFL

You'll notice how non of the Vic based clubs count their VFA premierships, because they came from a different league.

You forgot to add Sydney in too. All three are some of the most successful clubs in the Australian Football 'I need concessions' League.

Now f##k this stupid thread off.

It's a National Comp now and Victorian clubs should come to terms that their VFL competition ceased to be at the end of the 1989 season..Congrats on winning the last VFL flag...

All records prior to 1990 are, and should be recorded as VFL records only ...They have little bearing on the present AFL system... It was a different competition back then.. untill Sth Melb became Sydney... Geelong was as far as teams travelled...pfft...hardly worthy of being included in an AFL comp....

Unfortunately most Victorian supporters are desperate to hang on to the past...Reluctant to accept that the VFL died a slow death...with the urban sprawl..suburban rivalry became a thing of the past.dwindelling crowd numbers saw gate receipts down..teams struggled finacially

..1990 saw the birth of a National Competition giving a lifeline to those old VFL clubs...The AFL Administration are stepping on egg shells not pulling the pin on those old VFL records..Although they've been testing the waters with Fitzroys 8 flags not being included in the Brisbane merger...

The real problem is the AFL started at the begining of the 1990 season....This has created a fair bit of angst amonst the Victorian Clubs as this will mean..Collingwood won the first AFL premiership..;)

What's the difference between the league in 1987 and 1990, apart from the name of the league?

Like it or hate it...Officially in 1990 it' became a different comp..as the then administration finacially supported the change of it's business name from being The Victorian Football League (VFL) and with majority club approval it was re-named and re-badged (with a new logo) to become the Australian Football League.... The 1990 fixture was also listed as being the National Competion..not the Victorian Football League Competion as it was known up to 1990
