The VFL began in 1897 from a breakaway of the VFA, then changed it's name in 1990.![]()
So you accept that the AFL is in fact the VFL bar for a name change. I knew you'd eventually grow a brain!

*sigh*
So we had a national competition back in 1897, did we?![]()

*facepalm*
Who f*cking cares whether it's now a national comp or not, you're arguing that the records pre-87 or pre-82 are irrelevant which is completely wrong as the AFL who were formerly known as the VFL acknowledge those records!
If 10 new expansion teams enter the competition, the records dating back to 1897 will remain.

Got the spelling correct this time! Well done

There is no difference between the comp in 1987 compared to 1990, the name change should have happened in 87 and for all intents and purposes that's when the AFL really started.
My argument is valid either way.
Havn't you heard? The ... SANFL did not become the AFL.
Never said flags pre-1987 were irrelevant.
The relevance of premierships won in the 80's was far higher than premirship's won around the time period of the Wright Brothers first flight.
AFL flags just have more significance that's all.
double standards by victorians,
First off you count your state flags, and yet AS A CLUB we cant count ours. Now Im not saying we count them in terms of AFL flags, we count them as the PAFC premiership tally.
double standards
^ read my post and come back to me. I didnt say we should add it to the AFL tally
Fair call. As far as I'm concerned, the Port Adelaide Magpies can claim as many SANFL premierships as they think they deserve. I'm good with it.
I tend to agree with the OP.
BUT, who really cares. I dont care about flags won before my team was formed, because my team wasnt around to compete... I dont care about Ports 75,000 SANFL flags, or how ever many flags the VIC teams won before the team I support was formed. The eddieWOOD macguirePIES like to brag about their flags from 50+ years ago, but whats the point bragging about them to an Adelaide, Port, Freo, Brisbane, WC fan? We dont care, if the VIC teams had actually beat my team to get to those flags then fair enough. But they didnt. So VIC teams can have their little bragging circle where they brag about things that didnt happen in their own life times, I would rather take part in debates about flags from 1991, the year my team was formed and has been beaten each year it hasnt won a flag.
2? Yeah fine with me as well
And what about all the greats who played VFL not AFL. So do we just forget the all time great players???
