VFL flags don't count.

Good point.

Flags per years played is now a much more relevant statistic than overall flag counts.

Anyone want to try and make a list?

Brisbane Lions would be well and truly on top, I think.

Not really, they are two teams, and, even though there is bugger all Fitzroy left in them, they wouldn't have won those three flags without plundering the Roys through the 'merger.'

Kiwis couldn't give two shits about the AFL, they will always prefer bum sniffing and the Neanderthal Rapists League (NRL).

South Africa has promise, but it will take many decades until anything significant comes to fruition there.

Time will tell.

Ireland didn't take that long. We've got a Brownlow Medalist and a premiership player.

Highly likely, but the point is that the VFL is no longer relevant, comprende?

I do comprehend the thread, these clubs all joined this league remember. Look at it this way....

Why would any victorian club want to lose all their achievements?

Join dates/est of clubs in the past 30 years
Sydney Swans: 1982 - (And were of course South Melbourne)
- With of VFL for 8 years

West Coast Eagles: 1986 - (New club)
- With of VFL for 4 years

Adelaide Crows: 1991 - (New club)
- Never in VFL

Fremantle: 1995 - (East/South Fremantle - still a newly formed club)
- Never in VFL

Brisbane Bears: 1987 - (Merged with Fitzroy in 1996, to form Lions)
- With VFL for 3 years

Port Adelaide: 1870/1996 - (Only club outside of Victoria with history, prior to joining AFL) -
- Never in of VFL

Just because of some rule changes, and a name change doesnt warrant that VFL flags dont count. That is like saying, when Gold Coast and GWS come into the comp it's all square again, and all clubs should go on a 0 flag count. To make it even for the interstate sooks, it should be done (flags/years in league). :thumbsu:

VFL absorbed other teams and thus changed it's NAME to AFL. It's roots are still in the VFL. Deal with it.

Any chance you could add something different to that already offered by dozens of flogs?

We all know the VFL is rooted, its only supporters of the Melbourne based clubs that can't deal with it.

It's hilarious, isn't it? Just like the Kangawho's supporters doing the same, giving the Hawks shit for never having won a VFA premiership. :D

If You follow this line of logic, all players who played before whatever inane period of time you want to pick, should no longer be recognised in the AFL hall of fame.

This would of course include, but not limited, to;
Malcolm Blight (Woodville/North Melbourne)
Barry Cable (Perth/North Melb/East Perth)
Peter Carey (Glenelg)
David Christy (Melbourne/Fremantle/WA Imperials/East Fremantle)
John Daly (Norwood/West Adelaide)
Russell Ebert (Port Adel (SANFL)/North Melbourne)
Len Fitzgerald (Collingwood/Sturt)
Bob Hank (West Torrens)

I'm proud of the PAFC's 35 flags, Essendon should be proud of their 16 flags. ect ect

you can't take away any clubs history or else you'll just become a corporation like the crows. And we wouldn't want that

But Port's 35 flags didn't happen in the VFL though and that's the AFL's heritage.

Although, I am not saying you should get rid of it in the SANFL, it is some achievement and you should be proud of it. :thumbsu: But, Port Adelaide in VFL/AFL history, has only won 1 premiership as far as I am concerned.

Clearly, when in that post did I say we should include it in the VFL/AFL premiership tally? To the PAFC and it's supporters it means the world

two choices in SA, you go for a real club with proud history or you go for a fake and made up club which formed in 1990

Port Power is a separate identity to Port Adelaide Magpies.
So they don't share a common history.

But if they were, then as a club they could acknowlede those premierships in the same way Richmond, as well as others, acknowledge their VFA premierships, but dont 'count' them for pissing competition purposes.

I don't agree with the counting of VFL premierships, especially since many Melbourne based club presidents, one in particular seem to have 'an even playing field' as their number one priority (salary cap concessions etc).

However if we are going to count them I feel Brisbane supporters are entitled to say we have 11, since we merged with a team that had 8 already.

No you dont. That was Fitzroy, not Brisbane Bears/Fitzroy Lions.

I started that as a joke in my sig about 3 years ago to make fun of the Power supporters who had their SANFL flags listed in their sig, who knew....

dont like it, then piss off out of the afl.

You have no idea what your talking about sir.

The SANFL Commission has ratified last night's decision by the clubs and have rejected Port Adelaide's merger proposal with the Power.

I'm sure you can understand how one would draw a conclusion that the two are separate identities when the SANFL has rejected a merger, thus apparently killing off the Magpies, (which is a travesty).

Or are there some serious factual errors in the articles?
