Time to take a chance on McLachlan and think about elevating him.

My two cents.

How can we elevate him when he is not an AFL player?

Elevate not the right choice of word. Unfortunately, we have no spots so the mid-season draft won't work either though if Krueger doesn't get better in the next few weeks, maybe...?

Did anyone see this or hear it mentioned during the match?

Former No.1 draft pick Paddy McCartin is facing a lengthy ban after a sickening incident in the VFL in which the Sydney forward struck Geelong captain Aaron Black in the head.

In vision obtained by foxfooty.com.au McCartin, who was signed by the Sydney Swans heading into the VFL season this year, can be seen swinging his fist at Black twice in the opening minutes of the match at Tramway Oval.

The second punch connected with Black’s jaw, who staggered before falling to the ground as McCartin ran off to compete in a contest up the field.

It’s understood Black suffered a swollen jaw but was cleared of concussion.

Foxfooty.com.au has confirmed the AFL’s match review team is investigating the incident and determining what sanctions should be given to McCartin.

Later in the match, McCartin injured his hand in a marking contest.

After being selected with the No.1 pick in the 2014 National Draft, McCartin managed just 35 games for St Kilda as he suffered eight concussions in five seasons.

He was delisted by the club at the end of 2019 so he could focus on his health and wellbeing.

McCartin recently admitted that, a year-and-a-half ago, he was ready to retire for good when entering a meeting with the AFL and a panel of brain specialists, but was given the all-clear to continue his career if he wanted.

The 25-year-old was signed by the Swans’ VFL side, allowing him to potentially be brought onto the senior list in this year’s mid-season draft.

Not a good headspace for a bloke thats on the outer with head issues already.

Being out that long and finally getting a go - really poor choice

Hes done.

Video of the incident in the link below

I've just watched it and I found it somewhat uncomfortable to watch. Black was just doing the defender thing of walking up to his opponent when McCartin takes the first swing which would have hit Black in the chest but he missed

Black doesn't really retaliate, just walks back up to him and kinda puts the chest into him which is when McCartin takes another swing and connects with the jaw

Watching Black drop to the ground without any real control is just sickening

Surely a minimum of 5/6 weeks, wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 10 - never want to see that sort of action anywhere

Blacky's been back on the steak as of today, though. So should be a week or two, at most.

McCartin will get off. His future brother in law (wearing a Geelong jumper) will just give evidence and say it was all good - nothing to see. Move on.
The image is ultimate footy thuggery.
Gone and shodl stay gone.

I hoped he might get another shot at playing for his own good.. but * him.

I have zero tolerance for that s**t.

Career over and go flip burgers.

You walk up to someone on the street and do that, you're facing assault charges and looking at jail time

There's nothing tough in his actions

Whatever the number of weeks it may as we'll be a permanent ban. He ain't playing footy at senior level again.

No real surprise - sent straight to the tribunal

McCartin, now playing for Sydney's reserves side after leaving St Kilda at the end of 2019 due to ongoing concussion issues, struck former AFL player and Geelong's current reserves skipper Aaron Black during their clash on Saturday.

The strike was graded as intentional, with severe impact and high contact.

Pictured grappling with Black a significant distance away from the play, McCartin appears to strike the Cats VFL captain in the chest before producing a significant hit to the head moments later.

Black, clearly dazed, staggers back a couple of steps before dropping to his knees. He was cleared of concussion and managed to play out the game, but McCartin is still facing the prospect of a hefty suspension just three games into his comeback.

Sydney coach John Longmire told reporters on Monday he had already spoken to the ex-Saint about the incident.

"It's very disappointing. It's very disappointing for Paddy. He's a quality bloke, it's very unlike him and completely out of character. The main thing is Aaron is OK. That's the main thing out of the equation, it's very out of character for Paddy," Longmire said.

"I've had a brief chat with him. He's very remorseful and completely out of character."

"Sickening" might be a touch too much lol.
But not a great start to the VFL career.

I think sickening is the right word - throwing a punch at someone, connecting with their jaw & them then going to ground because of the contact is a sickening incident, regardless if its on a football field or out on the street

There's nowhere really to go though. What if you saw a bad car crash, a stabbing, a war etc.
Where do you go after sickening?

Maybe we're lucky it was on a football field and that there's no apparently long term damage to Black, because similar actions out in the public on the street have seen people dropped, hit their heads on the sidewalk where they've ended up with permanent brain damage while others have died - in that situation we'd call it sickening because of the outcome, but how about we call out the action for what it is, even when the outcome is significantly better than other situations

His playing against he's ex's brother on the other team too and would've been copping s**t.
Not a good a day for him.
