I didn't think there was to many positives to come out of the loss to North Ballarat.
Egan - was great
Thurley - may have got him wrong - could be ok
McCarthy - some things never change
Ablett - They did not use him enough
Spencer - looks to slow
Rahilly - still can't kick
Lonergan - looked good
Callan - should get a run in the seniors ahead of Rooke/D Johnson
Sheringham - has a go
Haynes - leads well up the ground - thats it

Yeah i didn't see to many positives, though Mooney started off ok but he was on the angry pills, i think he will be back this week.

Rahilly - Is just d.spriggs in disguise
Spencer - very average
Ablett - played from behind too much but he has got talent
Thurley - Did impress me, very good finisher which is what we need
Haynes - Did some good things but then some awful things
Mackie - is a class player who will be a very good player in 2 yrs time
Callan - Pushing for a sapot but you can't kick out Rooke or D.Johnson at this
stage

Mccarthy - Hit the post from 3 mtrs out

Thats about it, we looked rather slow and our skills were awful to be honest.

Think that Mooney will come in this week for maybe Byrnes or Tenace, not sure.

I only saw the first half but I thought Blake was good. Considering Port is usually tall in the forwardline and they have stretched us before , Blake could be worth a go as a BPocket tall on a resting ruckman. It would allow Ottens to stay forward and would help remedy the flaw that when one Of Harley/Scarlett are beaten or go down it stuffs our balance.

Blake was ordinary later in the game. If a tall comes into the side it has to be Mooney or Egan.

The difference in the 2 sides was the roosters were trying to win the game where the cats are trying to prepare players for the seniors. We have a genuine lack of onballers in the two's, but we have to play the guys on the list even if they are out of position.

Mackie remind me of Blake Caracella. He will never be big or even bigger but he needs to learn how to use his body better. He oozes class and with some confidence could be a very good gap filler, someone to go onto a wing, ball or forward to add some polish.

Mackie looked pretty good to me, i think when he does get back into the AFL team he should play more of his football on a wing. Also Thurley looked pretty good, you'd have to think he'd definately get a few AFL games this season going on his early season form.

While there where a couple of good performances, there was nothing out-standing. On Saturday night the only player whose form was inadequate was King's and he wont be dropped.

Mooney may get a recall, but only because he is a fairly automatic selection, whoever gets dropped will justifiably feel unlucky.

Callan - should get a run in the seniors ahead of Rooke/D Johnson

Well then give him a bloody run, but not for either of those two players! I can't see why so many people have a problem with Rooke and DJ. Get out of your stuck up ways and realise that they have done well this year! By no means do they deserve omission from the side at this stage. I simply can't see Callan providing such an influence or being a game-breaker down back. How could Callan bring anything more to the side than either Rooke or DJ can currently? Many have been known to be DJ bashers over time, so nothing surprises me. Don't just start throwing up the idea of dropping players just to put a spanner into the works. I think it is done too frequently.
Timmy Callan, of course, still has time on his side to refine aspects of his game. I will agree that I think he has a heap of potential, but am also inclined to say that his decision making can, at times, be questionable. He will get his chance again, but not after last week's performance in a VFL loss. Nothing showed me that he will simply rise to the occasion and shine in an AFL game. If, however, he can put a few solid games together, then consider changing team dynamics (which are crucial in the back half).

Egan deserves a senior recall, but who do you drop? Port have stacks of tall timber, so you'd probably have to cut one small defender. Prolly Dave Johnson, who would justifiably feel that he'd been ripped off.

Rahilly is not a fantastic kick, but he didn't make too many errors. If he continues to play like he has the last two weeks, he should get one final crack at senior footy.

Slade showed why Bomber has persevered with him. Played only the 2nd and 3rd quarter because his fitness is still not right, but he's got some talent and guts.

I like Rooke.
I like DJ.

THEY STAY! You can drop one for a tall, especially with Hunt in such good form but not for another small defender. These two blokes have something that is so usefull in defence...EXPERIENCE.

I repeat....THEY STAY!

Would we need egan this week though? Unless Harley doesnt pull up I cant see him playing as they do no have the height to stretch our defence.

I actually beg to differ.

At any one time, they can have a forward line of Tredrea, Primus, Lade, White, and possibly Thurstans.

Considering the type of form Scarlett is in right now, I'd be worried if Egan wasn't selected for Friday's game, regardless of whether Harley is in or out.

We are one tall short anyway. Essendon could not exploit it, but when they played Lloyd Lucas and Laycock up forward we looked in trouble. It was amazing in the first half that they continually kicked to the player who Harley was on. Every game this year Playfair has been sent back to defence to help, leave him in the forward line so he can improve.

Mackie should never play on the wing can't keep up.
Nathan has to compete just a little harder but will be a great player,
Blake has to take marks around the ground, use 2 hands not 1 like he did on Saturday
Buckland looks like he is going to be a pretty handy wingman moves well all over the ground, may get a call later in the year to fill a spot.
Thurley has to be given a chance soon.
Spencer his doesn't think quick enough and yes to slow.
Haines could be anything!!

There were even less positives in the match against Sandringham.
Better players for Geelong (but l would not say that they beat their opponent) included Lonergan Cook Rahilly Spencer Garth

Looked like McCarthy broke an arm/shoulder while attempting to take mark of the year. He left the ground before the end of the game, to visit the quack l would assume.
