Did selwood play?

If Selwood didn't play it could indicate that Johnson didn't come up and he will replace him in the 22.
Other option is Hunt had more than cramp at the end of last weeks game and he hasn't come up.

I doubt that they would be giving him a break this early in the season.

P.S. Maybe Selwood is injured, which makes dropping him more sense.

that sucks...selwood was suppose to get game time at vfl not warm the bench....id like him to retian his spot and drop DJ.
gibbs will play all 22 so should selwood, and its not like the kid cant play iether.
god i cant wait for round 7
IN:SJ
OUT:who the hell cares...SJ will rip it up.
he looks to have gone that extra step this year and he seems much more consistent...
his other 2 vfl outings were just stella....thank god were not in an ergency to use him...he serves the time so he knows talent is talent but the team is what counts.
btw grima...any chance of a call up or does he need to kick another bag... he looked decent last week...but this week he seems to have found his flow.
maybe tudor should keep on playing him in the forward line.
god this i ironic...we use to have terrible KPP and now we have an abundence of kids putting thier hands up.
regarding playfair...i dont care how good he is at vfl...he cant replicate it in afl and im sorry unless he moves 2-3gears and really learns how to use his body and somehow develop a football brain i dont want to see him or spencer at the club.
could we try tenace in a woja kinda of role? instead of him being placed in the wing..he could add extra dash fromt he back line to set up the mid's and forwards.
btw how did callen play? i ike the kid hes pretty hard...just doesnt get the chance he deserves:(

Difference between Selwood and Gibbs is that Gibbs will play 22 out of necessity as Carlton's midfield stocks aren't as bountiful as ours are. Selwood, Varcoe, Djerrkura and co. will play 10-12 games in the seniors, and become eligible for the VFL finals. One good thing is that we have so much depth at the club now that, with the possible exception of Scarlett, we have viable back-up support for just about everyone on the list now.

I reckon he is still a small chance of playing. Hunt, DJ, and Byrnes all have had injury clouds the last 3 weeks. One of those might still be in doubt.

yeh but thin of development... more afl experience the more the kid plays consistent football and seems to benefit more.
vfl is just to get game time into you and help u get match practice and play against weaker oponents.
but if your taking on grown professional men week in week out you will be th better for it.
with selwood..hes not far off it at all. and i would say hes close to being in our top 22. so why not give him the experience...he is future captain material...get him in and manage his body right...if he needs a rest fair enough..but if he can go on then see no harm

For me the best thing to come from the game was Bedford.
He kept racking up poss on the HBF and pushing foward breaking lines, side stepping with eas. He looked very composed and has nice foot skills and good decision making (unlike Gardiner).

Also Grima was great, it looked like it was going to be a repeat of last week after he sprayed a few early, but after Q Time he was like a diff person kicking it and could not miss. His marking is great to watch, he has such strong hands.

Grima is a great player. Still am surprised he was never originally drafted after his stella performance at the U/18's champs a few years back. Surely he or Davenport would be our nominated rookie..

I'd say Grima is in our best 30 players at the club. Infront of Gardiner and Playfair as a tall forward. Why did they persist on playing him in the backline for his pre-season games? I know we have Nath Ablett and Mooney up there but they should've given him a crack at going forward during those games. He will ave to rely on injuries now to get a ones game with Hawkins moving in beautifully to that third tall position.

Loving the concept of a three tall, three small forward line... ala mid 90's!

Does Geelong have the strongest rookie list in the competition?
Grima - Kicking plenty of goals
Reynolds - Knee reco has probably ended his career
Bedford - Plenty of flash
Lonergan - Proven AFL level talent
Davenport - Looks good

It is going to be tough going for spots next year. Grima & Lonergan should probably be promoted. Bedford and Davenport could probably both do with another year of development. I think we have to pick up three players as a minimum in the draft right?

That means 5 players delisted at a minimum. I can see 5 that I think need to go.

Playfair
Gardiner
Spencer
King (retire)
Callan
Another player traded for picks (someone like Kelly, Tenace...)

Theres six for me.

I would probably add Owen.

King is still worth a spot on our list if he wants it IMO. Trade is the other possibility I guess.

We aren't exactly suffering with him out, are we?

No point in handing out penalties and then going back on them because he's playing well. Totally defeats the purpose.

It's clear that it has stung him into action and that's great, its shown he is desperate to regain respect and win back his spot in the seniors.

Totally agree, even if we are losing why bring him back. He and his team mates have to learn a lesson, you stuff up you will be penalised. Simple.

Then in years to come we will have a team willing to put themselves on the line for the club and each other, not piss it up against the wall.

Don't think that Kelly will be traded, especially seeing he has dominated in the preseason.

Gardiner will most likely go, Spencer maybe, King won't retire, Callan will stay on (still contracted till end next year I believe), and Playfair is the same, I still think we have a couple of those contracted through next year, therefore will not be dropped next year.

Gardiner is not contracted, I know that for a fact, therefore he may miss out.

Yeah I guess Owen hasn't really shown that much. Not developing quick enough.

King is a hard situation. We have Ottens, Blake, West and himself as ruckman. I reckon every list should have 4 ruckman on it so if King did happen to retire due to re-occuring injuries, we would have to recruit a ruckman. That would leave us with Ottens (27 yo), Blake (22), West (21) and a rookie (18). I would prefer to see King stay for one more year but possibley recruit or trade for a young ruckman (possibely Meeson).

In the scenarios where the VFL plays the day before, they usually keep one of the emergencies fresh by not not playing him in the VFL. Doesn't mean he is injured or that he will get a run.
Prescient if I don't say so myself.

I get it now!!! All this time I've been thinking that the 'B's were behinds... stupid me.

Great to have both VFL and AFL teams rip it up on the weekend. :D

It's bloody stupid the way it is set out.It does look like it's mean't to be behinds.
