West was really good earlier in the Season not quite having Scoreboard but still having a Impact

West should debut by end of the Season even for a Game or 2

But still there is Upside to him like get Fitter and Stronger thru the Core and just from Experience

Howes does look Promising but only had 1 game so far

Should be good Tandem for rest of the Season
They both had nearly games and it didn't help that our forward line was overcrowded with talls.

That what I thought too a bit

West was not getting the 1v1 which he does so well in where now Kicks to a
pack and does a good job but makes harder to get shots on Goal

I think he was probably BOG. Problem for Tom is he's a one position player and we're stacked in his position.
Is he though? If I’m not mistaken he rotated quite effectively between forward/mid with Adams early in 2023 before injuries forced him to full time mid. And he played a similar role at the Hawks in 2022.

Only thing that holds him back a little is his speed and subsequently forward pressure.

The club might consider him in that defensive small forward role that Shultz has opened up, with some cameos at the centre clearances. Although personally I hope they opt for youth, eg Hayes.

I think the whole AFL world has settled on the ideal being a bloke who can play 60% of the game up forward and 20% chopping out in the ruck. You can try to make something work with two rucks or someone comng from defence like we did with Frampton - or if you've got Cripps or Blicavs you have other options. But how do you make it work if the player isn't AFL standard in either role? Steene is a fair way away from being either an AFL ruck or an AFL forward. I don't see how you'd make that work.
Agree on the above. Not saying he’s ready for AFL at this moment, he’s only 21. Regardless, wouldn’t mind giving him a game this year against a cellar dweller.

My sole point was that he projects as a forward/ruck which is a positive for us. They can often play earlier too as they’re not up against 30 year old machines all day.

You really don’t like west 😂 all I’ve heard for a month is negativity
It was a joke. I actually like him and think he is showing real promise.

I don't think I have actually said anything negative about him at all. Up until now all I have said is I don't think he should be playing AFL just yet. It seems Fly and the match committee have agreed with me so far.

If he gets selected next week I will look forward to watching him and hope he does well. Not being an ultra fanboy does not make me negative, just neutral.

Sorry if it has been answered many times already but how did the two mid-season draftees play?
Howes took a couple of marks and looked capable.
Kinda Membrey shape though bigger.
Steele was quiet initially but got more involved as the game went on.
Quite a solid mature bodied wingman.
Both will be better for the run

Impressive win by the boys over the ladder leaders at their home ground...
DeMattia has now had 3 really good games. He must be a consideration for Kings Birthday...
Steene is really progressing well. Love how he is really going for his marks, and clunking them, up forward and around the ground.
Mitchell looked good with 29 disposals. You would feel he isn't too far away. Could be back straight after the bye....
Steele, coming into the club only a couple of days ago, looked impressive. The 24 disposals, 7 mark game was really promising. Looks to have good balance and can obviously find the footy. Excited to see his progress over the next month.
Howes looks a good athletic bigman. Unfortunately l think his flying for just about every mark from a deep entry kick put West off his game. We don't want to see Westy lose any confidence, and spoil the great start to the season he's had, so hopefully the coaches can workout the best way to use Howes and Westy up forward....
Great to see Coxy not drop his head once he got omitted from the AFL side. He actually led from the front today, in the ruck and up forward. His 3 goals, the marking up forward and around the ground were excellent.

Yes he seems to better 1 on 1 instead of Flying for everything like at the Moment

Could almost say we are too tall up forward

Hopefully with more Games they can get a Better working Gameplan for them

A four talls forward line just doesn't work. We outplayed them and would have won that game very comfortably with a normal forward line.
