Player Review

Ashby - Too many dumb mistakes and rarely hits a target.

McKenna - Poor game. Just couldn't get into the right positions.

Pears - Average at best. Another one of our dumb footballers.

Melksham - Poor Game - Can do some amazing, but does too many stupid things.

Myers - Got the ball a bit, but didn't do anything with it. Poor disposal over all. Wouldn't bring in the firsts.

Mckernan - Works hard, but was poor in the ruck. I think he needs to be trialed as a forward/pinch hitter or delisted. He isn't up AFL standard as a ruckmen.

Browne - Decent first half, but trailed off. Didn't do enough to earn a recall.

Kavanagh - Was probably the best of the AFL listed players. I think they should bring him into the afl side and make a final decision on whether to keep him or not at the end of the year.

Overall a very disappointing game, though a lot of players are out of the side at the moment.

Oh well, One loss down, one to go.

Liked a couple of Wallis moves including a nice goal.

Kavagnah had a genuine crack. Deserves another chance at AFL.

McKernan was tried at full forward for a while. Can't play key position. Would need to play forward flank or pocket. Looked very sour... Pissed off with the world. Get the impression Werribee players trying to make him get aggro and lose his cool.

Melksham does some really nice things but then lacks awareness and gets tackled without knowing his opponent was standing right next to him.

Ashby shows class but then mis directs his passes under no pressure.

Boys really need to pick up the pace against Frankston next week- we were second on the ladder only a month or so ago but are starting to slip back to the pack again

Good game for the most part.

We were killing them in at the stoppage, Kavanagh, Melksham, Myers, Tagliabue and McKernan in particular for the most part did the job there, but we broke down going forward with no real structure up there, and they rebounded well to beat us in transition. Pears was smashed all day by Wood.

Our bests would have been Kavanagh, Tagliabue, Polkinghorne, Myers, McKernan and Coghlan.

Of our AFL listed players:

Kav - was good. Snapped a nice goal after fighting for the ball with an opponent and off only one step. Still often used on the wing. Used the ball well through most of the day.
Myers - Will be better off for the run. Played reasonably well, won the ball often, unleashed a few dirty big and strangely precise kicks to teammates. Came off in the second quarter and looked smashed, but recovered well and ran the game out fine. Expect him back this week.
Melksham - Did some nice things, but not enough of them imo. If he wants another contract he has to do more.
Pears - Didn't have quite as many wtf moments as last week, but was average at best still. Think he might be cooked.
Mckernan - Not as dominant as he has been, but still managed alright.
Long - still shows glimpses, tackles hard and often. Ball use is great, just needs to find a way to get it more.
Mckenna - quiet, but still managed a nice set shot goal in the last quarter.
Ashby - same story really. Intercept marks well, competes, but kicking lets him down. If he improves that he will be a quality player.
Browne - got a fair bit of it on the outside. Had the occasional mistake, but was mostly good.

All in all, Myers is a certainty to come back (if he pulls up alright) while I would say Kav and Browne would also be in contention.

Not surprising the performances have dropped off though, I called it a month ago, far too many injuries.

Got down to WH on Sunday and there really was only two 5 minute bursts that cost us the game, some things that were noticeable:

- Our VFL mids are also very loose checking, no 3 and 5 for Werribee seemed to run anywhere they liked with little to no attention given to them.

- A Browne very vocal on field and also in the huddles, got a little bit of it but did very little with the ball

- Kav quite clearly our best IMO, started quickly but faded a little as the game went on.

- Myers improved as the game went on, Really struggled to find space early on and they tried to push him to his right side a lot, His strength in the contest was noticeable late

- tagliabui, Started well and looked a class above, later in the game it was very noticeable how unfit and lumbering he actually is, It's a shame because he is huge, if only he could build that tank

- Was really impressed by Tippa, He is a tough little bugger and so rarely missed a target, Usually when he got it we looked dangerous. I think he is worth a rookie list spot
