Footscray and Essendon will be competing for a top 2 spot in the VFL, both sides all but secured in their top 4 with only Geelong a chance from outside to make it now. Footscray have some stellar form, winning their last 5 and 8 from 10 whilst Essendon have won 7 from 8. The two sides have built a great rivalry over the years of being stand alone sides, having gone 5-4 in favour of the Dogs in their last 9 battles, and this one promises to be another close one.
Footscray had a good win against Frankston in an unexpectedly tight game for the first 3 quarters, only 20 points ahead at 3 quarter time before kicking away in the last to win by 70. There were no real standouts for the Dogs with only two players getting 20 touches in Sullivan and McComb, but Jordan Sweet was a feature with 32 hit outs and two goals whilst Billy Gowers may earn a recall with 19 disposals and two goals.
Essendon and Sandringham were level at half time but a 10 goal to 0 second quarter catapulted Essendon back into second spot, ending up 85 points to the better of the Zebras to secure their top 4 spot. David Myers was dominant through the midfield, having 39 disposals and 3 goals which resulted in a whopping 141 dream team points whilst young key forward Noah Gown kicked 4 goals, taking his tally for the year up to 17.
If Essendon win they can all but secure second spot, and Footscray have gone 3-3-1 against top 8 sides, and 1-1 against fellow top 4 sides, whilst Essendon have gone 4-2 against top 8 sides, both losses coming to the other top 4 sides. Essendon by 15. Possible side:
FB: Josh Tynan - Brandon Zerk-Thatcher - Matthew Dea
HB: Jake Long - Jordan Ridley - Ben McNiece
MF: Tom Jok - Kurt Aylett - David Zaharakis
HF: Jordan Houlahan - Jayden Laverde - Heath Hocking
FF: Mark Baguley - Noah Gown - Irving Mosquito
OB: Zach Clarke - Kyle Langford - Aaron Heppell
IC: Riley Bowman - Liam McKenna - Nino Lazzaro - Wilson Berry
IC: Danny Younan - Jake McQueen - Jacob Brown - Daniel Hanna
23P: Tynan Smith
