VFL Game Day VFL Round 2: Essendon v Collingwood (32 point win; 75-43)

Our second game of the season and our first home game. The timing of this game has been the subject of some conjecture and change- originally it was the Sunday, then switched to Saturday morning, and now back to Sunday again. Who knows why.

Anyway, we should be looking at this as a very winnable game. We lost to the Pies twice last year- by 25 points at Windy Hill and 17 at Victoria Park.

Last week, we lost by a point to Sandringham with a kick after the siren from a questionable free kick. Collingwood were solidly defeated by 35 points at North Ballarat and will also be looking to atone.

Think its because Channel 7 want to televise it, so it was moved to the Saturday, before realizing they will have the AFL ANZAC Day coverage so now it's back to Sunday but still televised.

Farcical if true. As if that wouldn't have been obvious all along.

Dalgleish is a loss.

Assuming no other changes to the AFL side, who replaces Dal?
With my changes to the senior side (Hams, McKernan for Cooney, Ashby) I'd guess a side of:

Dempsey - Freezer - Gwilt
Ashby - Steinberg - Marigliani
Schroder - Polkinghorne - Kavanagh
J Merrett - Pears - O'Brien
Hardingham - Langford - Long
Giles - Aylett - Browne
Edwards - Laverde - Fantasia - Muller - Ferry*

With the senior team released I'm guessing this will be the side:

Marigliani - Freezer - Gwilt
Ashby - Steinberg - Ferry*
Schroder - Polkinghorne - Kavanagh
J Merrett - Pears - O'Brien
Hardingham - McKernan - Long
Giles - Aylett - Browne
Edwards - Laverde - Fantasia - Langford - McKenna

Freezer back is very important. Such a solid, dependable player.
I reckon we win if he plays last week, would have contained Brown much better than Gwilt.

Very unlucky not to have been rookied somewhere by now, I reckon.
He's too small for the way he plays and too slow for his size as a key defender.

The side:

Browne - Steinberg - Edwards
Ferry* - Gwilt - Hardingham
Marigliani - Aylett - Coghlan
O'Brien - Pears - Tipungwuti
Polkinghorne - Giles - Heavyside
McKernan - Schroder - Ashby
McKenna - Laverde - Fantasia - Byrne - Long - Langford - Kavanagh - Merrett - Freezer

at the traditional timeslot of 11.42 saturday morning...

TV games are great, i'd have to be up super early to get there on time
Yeah, but free entry.

I reckon they'll line up a bit more like;-

Ashby Steinberg Browne

Gwilt Freezer Aylett

J.Merrett Marigliani Long

Langford Pears Edwards

Laverde Giles Fantasia

McKernan O'Brien Kavanagh

Bench from: McKenna Polkinghorne Coghlan Hardingham

Ferry* Schroder Tipungwuti Heavyside

Why are some players in bold and others not?
