Traditional AFL rivals Essendon and Collingwood come head to head on the traditional ANZAC Round clash. Essendon has had the wood over Collingwood at this level in recent times, winning 3 of the last 5 clashes, but have only lost two from the last 8 games against the Pies. Their last clash was in last year's elimination final where Essendon had a fairly comfortable 34 point win against the Pies. Essendon's form this year has been beating up on two lowly opponents in Frankston and North Melbourne, a bye in between the two whilst Collingwood have struggled to start the season, having a lucky 3 point win against Coburg in round 1, followed by a 12 goal loss to Footscray and a tight 3 point loss to Preston.
Essendon smoked North Melbourne at Chirnside Park in Werribee to the tune of 94 points, which resulted in a disappointing drop from 604.17% to 435.94%. Essendon really controlled the game from quarter time onwards, North being unable to match the Dons on the spread from the stoppage. Jayden Laverde was the man forward of centre for the Dons, kicking 6 goals in a solid return outing after a minor ankle injury, whilst Trent Mynott was again the pick of Essendon's midfielders, having 25 disposals, 8 marks and 2 goals in a very promising sign from the future, a bit like his predecessor in the 39.
Collingwood's VFL woes have continued, the Pies falling to Preston by 3 points at Victoria Park, which will be sure to annoy Collingwood fans. Tim Broomhead seemed to be the pick of Collingwood's forwards, kicking 3 goals for the Magpies whilst their big bodied midfielders did the work in close it seems, Rupert Wills collecting 32 disposals, captain Alex Woodward picking up the 31, and Adam Oxley having 27 touches and a goal.
Essendon to continue Collingwood's woes and beat them by 55 points
