Allan, HDM and Ryan also have "weapons" that have seen them get extensions. They're just not weapons that people get excited about. Mostly running capacity.

And yet we continue to play Ryan on HBF game after game after game after…Interesting to see DeMatttia playing a lot as an inside mid tagger against Essendon.
Change of role
I said "weapons that they're already transferring into VFL". Yep the other guys have athletic strengths, but when re-signed they weren't using those stregths to have impactful moments in VFL games like these 3 have begun to do already. Allan I see as having been a no-risk re-signing though as his attributes are on another level to the other two and will get him 4 years in the AFL system, even if he doesn't go on to make it.Allan, HDM and Ryan also have "weapons" that have seen them get extensions. Cooper McDonald?Jen2310
I've forgotten his name, but what happened to that back pocket competitive beast who played for us last year. Couldn't kick but cracked in really hard - reminded me of Kerrison. Big biceps - I think he had tatts?
Cooper is on the list but not being selected. Plays for Rowville in the Eastern football leagueCooper McDonald?
75%. Sorry to be pickyAnd if it wasn't for not holding on last week. we would be undefeated. Last year, we had 4 wins. We're now 95% of that after round 7
Demattia definitely was NOT one of the better players. I'm struggling to understand what he offers as a player. He is being played off a wing at times and others in the centre square. On the outside, he hardly gets it and when he does, his composure and decision making is pretty bad as well as his disposal. On the inside, he just doesn't find it enough or is able to distribute effectively. Looks like a spectator with occasional average cameos for me.The Numbers:
Young forward Charlie West added another three goals to his season tally, bringing his total to 12 in just four games.
VFL-listed players Sam Glover (25 disposals, 12 intercepts) was influential, while Josh Browne (23 disposals, two goals) and Tom Wilson (19 disposals, six tackles, two goals) were also commanding.
Mason Cox (19 hit outs, two goals) and Oscar Steene (16 hit outs, six score involvements) were impressive, while Harry DeMattia (18 disposals, five clearances) stood out on the wing.
Collingwood will now look to their second home game of the season next Saturday, where they’ll face Footscray at Victoria Park (2:05pm).

I never take the Bests in the VFL too Seriously as It looking only at Stats and Not how the PlayedDemattia definitely was NOT one of the better players. Carlie Dean also was not one of the better players. Too slow by foot and mind. Solid VFL player, but no further gears. Sam Glover looked a much more likely AFL prospect.

Oscar Steene was very good. Like his appetite for contests, decent skill and the occasional contested mark.
Charlie West is exciting. I love his appetite and aggression. His tackling is ferocious for a tall forward. His marking in a contest is a threat. His beautiful and long goal kicking is also a threat. The only thing holding him back from an AFL birth is his tank (which will improve in a professional environment) and understanding of game plan. The main ingredients though are powerful and exciting!
Ed Allen is a bit of a concern. I understand the conditions were slippery, but he's a midfielder, so that shouldn't be a problem where his height is used as an excuse. Like Demattia, I see a problem with composure (decision making) and skill level. On the outside, he often butchers the ball and on the inside, he is not commanding or influential enough. Not sure what position he suits?
Will Parker - solid
Jakob Ryan - solid
Tew Jiath - Exciting performance. Handled the slippery conditions well, was composed and created many forward thrusts. Was influential and determined.
Oleg Markov - Mix of everythingAs usual.
Iliro Smit - the less said the better. Yes he played as a key back and was lost at sea.
Harry Cochrane - inconspicuous. Okay. Conditions and his current frame probably made it difficult to have an effect.
Will Hayes - very quick. May need to slow down and think through what he is doing. Little influence.
The bests mentioned on playhQ are ones voted by the coaches. Nothing to do with stats.
Glover, Browne, Steene the top 3
Can't really dispute that.
They were definitely better. I don't know what positive effect any of Harry's disposals had? I don't even know if they advantaged our side? It was a very messy inside game attempt. There's just no urgency to win the ball from him and create play.Though have Harry D in Bests but I had someone like West and TJ ahead him
Agreed. I thought Charlie started the year poorly but this was a welcome return to form and I also think he played very well. He is certainly a good defender at VFL level. Whether he has the size and athleticism to also be a good defender at AFL level is questionable..Dean was one of our best.
head knockDoes anyone know what happened to Joel Cochran that caused his concussion?
Well thank you, that was very helpful.head knock
