Ok so the match vs Tasmania at Blundstone Arena is 3 weeks away, who would you like to see in the VFL side?

And Port Melbourne is not a valid answer :p

Coburg biased here, would love to see Willie Wheeler and Nick Carnell in the side, Ben Ross from Werribee is in fantastic form, not going to bother mentioning Port players as they're all brilliant, Kyle Martin from Frankston, James Wall would always be up for consideration, Cockie and Cook from Sandy maybe, there's quite a few around

You guys will win by 200 points, and that is not a typo. Tassie has chosen what is basically a "development" squad. The TSL, and the game in Tassie, is in bad enough shape without adding that sort of rubbish on top. There is a small, but realistic, chance the Tasmanian side could go the match without scoring a goal.

That's pretty close to the mark, I reckon.
AFL Tasmania has virtually used all the TSL clubs as pawns and view them as nothing more than lists to develop players through these so-called 'pathways' for a few young blokes to get drafted each year so they can get pats on the back from the AFL and stay on their gravy train.
The TSL, as opposed to the other State-based comps is nothing to do with community football and all to do with getting kids drafted, all done on a salary cap that is a third of what the TFL Statewide League was operating on 22 years ago.
This is probably why the governing body give almost no promotion to the TSL. Turned their backs on the history of the old TFL completely, got rid of the Reserves competition, are pulling the worst attendances for more than 100 years, has almost no credibility amongst former players and supporters, struggles with player retention and has this annoying habit of tinkering constantly with the whole league by making policy changes on the run, trying to play God by, for example, bringing in a newly established club from the Kingborough region but it will not be the actual Kingborough Football Club itself!
Then they want to axe both the Hobart and North Hobart Football Clubs (who have 199 years of history and success between them) in order to start up a whole new innercity team from scratch with the Sandy Bay Junior Football Club just a couple of leading adminstrators at AFL Tasmania can see the Sandy Bay Football Club (the club they administered to death in 1997) can be seen on ground again!
What an utter train wreck this comp is becoming! Utterly inept in every way, it was no surprise to see the currently unbeaten Burnie cop a 133 point flogging in the Foxtel Cup at Etihad Stadium and the State Team will get a flogging of biblical proportions, it's no secret as to why the media, sponsors, players and fans have given the TSL a very wide berth. It could've been great if run properly, but this is hopeless..

Far out!!

Anyone wanna have a crack at a VFL team?

The VFL side won by a lazy 108 points = a nice old towelling!

Local Tassie footy has gone backwards since they pulled the Tasmanian VFL team out.

Local football in Tasmania has been going down the toilet ever since the old TFL put 100% of their efforts into getting a team in the AFL during the mid 1990s and turned their backs on the clubs and the local fans in the process by trying to either merge/kill the clubs off or by lax running of the game.
The Devils were nothing but a bunch of hob-nobbing parasites that stripped all the resources off local clubs and left them to die, all so the likes of Scott Wade and the rest of the scumbags at AFL Tasmania could suck up to the likes of the VFL and AFL hierarchy and get their associated pats on the back from them and so they could stay on the gravy-train. They never gave a shit about local clubs or the people that supported them. Most of Tasmania could not have cared about the result yesterday because very few people attend football at TSL level in protest at what Wade and Co have done with the sport (what a whopping great crowd there was at the game yesterday, probably 700, no doubt they'll fudge the figures like they always do!).
In truth, top class local club football in Hobart died fifteen years ago at the top level when Sandy Bay went under. And at least the Devils had a decent salary cap to play with, this crap the TSL has to operate with is an embarrassment - $70,000... Jesus!

The crowd was quoted as only 1200 which is a disgrace for thr biggest city in a so called Footy mad state.

I suggest you get used to having North at Hobart and Hawthorn at Launceston as Tassie will NEVER get their own AFL team.

Crowds don't get you an AFL team. Ask GWS how that works. Even sober, I'm sure Mike Fitzpatrick hasn't changed his tone no matter how many free Mars bars he's sent by our $4m potential sponsor...

From the point of view of state pride, matching it with the Big V, and putting the romance back into going to the footy on a Saturday arvo, footy in Tasmania needs bucks, simple as that. Allow the clubs to get high profile players, and promote the f###out of it. I want Wade to get on the phone, spit the durrie on the floor, and start laying into Demetriou and his accountants in the same manner any ex-backman would against a runty ex-wingman who gets a bit uppity...

From the point of view of Tasmanian footy fitting a broader structure as dictated by a parent body, and providing a pathway for junior footballers in a particular demographic through to the AFL using appropriate monetary figures, it's all going to plan (see how boring that sentence was?)...

I know which point of view I prefer...

We'll get the AFL team if it benefits the AFL. Right now, it doesn't. GWS and GC pay the bills - if we can prove we will too and they actually buy it, we'll get a franchise, priority draft picks to build it up, and crowds who will turn up because it's the AFL, and in better numbers than the meagre amount who rocked up to Skoda last night for the grand opening debut game against the AFL's second highest profile opponent...

As for the game yesterday, it hits home when the mighty Map loses, let alone gets hammered like that. One game a year will not develop a squad, especially when players get drafted. Very sad day for Tasmanian footy...and Australian footy too, I don't think it's unreasonable to add...

Unfortunately Tassie just dosent ahve the population (less that 600,00) or the money to sustain an AFL team loong term and the AFL knows this and wont be spending any extra dollars down there as they quiet righty see far more long term potential to grow the game north of the Murray.

Soppy sentimentality has no place in business and the AFL is now a multi Billion dollar sporting business that quite frankly dosent need a mature market going no where like Tasmasnia.

Soppy sentimentality seems to only be applied when it comes to a number of Suburban Melbourne teams which are most defiitely serial non performers by any measure.
Also its good enough for Tasmania to pay for two Victorian teams but we are not allowed to have our own team, like the mass of people who turned up to the Historic first game at Blacktown.
Yours is the typical self serving opinion that gets trotted out, with no real facts behind it.
I agree with the GWS as an expansion for the future good of the game & to a lesser extent the GC thing. But the biggest impediment to 'growing' the game is that it is overpopulated by suburban teams who seem to feel a god given right to play in a national competition when their history & current state of health doesnt support that position.
