Great to hear support for "The DS Express" may he play sooner than later and be given the opportunity he deserves.

If i had the chance to give him advice i would say "Play a bit more selfish young man as you are always bringing others into the game around you and helping make them look good".

"you need to get noticed and it seems the 1%ers isnt sufficient, so go in get that ball and do what you do best Clearance, Clearance, Clearance".

I don't need the T shirt to do that :D

NB: Were sitting in the AFL members on Saturday? in N18 by any chance

No, was sitting with the hoons in M50 - great seats, handy to shop, cafe and chips. But I'd love to know who you thought might be me.:p I was wearing my black and white checked jackets - looking rather like a grand prix.:o

And I doubt that you'd have a cute bone in your body. I know I haven't.

Actually OS I've got a much more disturbing feeling about Ultratune guy...

...but anyhoo...

The word on Stanners sounds great - even if he's not picked in the next few weeks, I've got a good vibe he'll be staking his claim in the top 22 by round 11.

Is that...is it Davros? Aha, I knew something fishy was up. A Dalek invasion headed by the Ultra-slug Chubmerchant. Of course. I'm going to pull out the microscope next time the ad is on to look for evidence of the half ping-pong ball being removed from his forehead. Funny how Davros dropped away and all of a sudden fatty, no-neck bobs up everywhere. I take it that snap was mid way thru the plastic surgery. Always trust your masculine intuition!

This week might be the one for Stanley if we don't have a back up ruck, but from the Collingwood site, it looks like Josh may get some assistance.

A mother and daughter combo that were full of laughter and hi jinx, both having the times of their lives.

My mum thinks I'm cute

Look out Chace, the opinions of mothers are notoriously undervalued in our society. Hence "The face only a mother could love". Better to say I'm twice as handsome as Tony Barber.

No-one can know what that might mean - but you've given yourself a nice pump-prime without specifically addressing the question of your handsomeness. The mystery factor and refracted glory of a Barber comparison just makes girls swoon.

Like it or lump it, if you don't get your preferred position, you have to produce something special.

More to the point a player has to provide something outside the bounce-downs around the ground. This failure to effect the game in general play has been the basis for criticisms of Bryan and Wood, so why not Stanley? Where that effect hasn't manifested - and that includes your Cooks, Wellinghams and McCarthy's - players have been dropped. It's a universal, applied I think, equitably amongst the fringe players.

Are you serious? Stanley played full back on Russel Robertson which is the complete opposite of playing in the midfield.

No it isn't. MM has his favorites and we all know that.

No its a myth perpetuated by many tryoing to work out what the go is with many decisions

Its an extremely annoying myth as well

Doubtful. Favoritism is a natural part of life and it's inevitable really. MM shows favoritism towards players who would otherwise be incapable of earning a team spot on their own ability.

You see, you start with a good and indisputable point and let yourself with bias

for instance:
Toovey would be as good one on one defensively as any on our list so of course he gets a go at the 3rd tall/BP
Johnson was a work in progress and for a while was a best 18 regular given us enormous drive even out of form he has given us two solid weeks
Maxwell was rookie listed and over looked by many, MM was harsh but fair on him he is now a solid player and captain
Medhurst couldnt get a game at freo, he is now an AA small forward

You post makes some sense, but MMs belief in players helps as much (probably more) as it hurts

You clearly haven't read my post which was crystal clear.

Danny doesn't get his preferred position, but you have to do enough in general play to deserve another go. You can talk all you like about VFL form, but for the selection committee it is AFL form that matters. You need to bracket that question because it's not relevant to retention at AFL level, and that's where he has not done enough.

VFL form is vital to putting your hand up and being given consideration, but you need impact at AFL level to be retained. You conflate, like so many others, Stanley's VFL and AFL form. And like I've said, it's not as though other fringe players have not been dropped when they fail on the only stage that matters.

Once again, we return to the questions: a/. who is to be left out to make way for Danny and, b/. is his ommission founded or just some petty vendetta from the committee? No doubt people have favourites, but it is extremely doubtful that Mick makes himself look like a petulant tit over Stanley every week against the general tide. I could accept that if every time Danny has played he has really carved them up and was ommitted, but there is no more evidence for that than there is for the ommission of other fringe players who fail to make a significant impact or display enormous versatility and upside.

I think Stanley needs more game time before we can make a proper judgment. Four matches over two years isn't a big enough sample size to base your decisions on. He needs more time to show us what he is made of in his 'preferred position' or not. If he doesn't come good then dispose of him and let us not talk about this again.

My point is not that Danny is sh1t or couldn't make it, but that to date he hasn't done enough to retain a spot. The only judgment you can make has to be founded on his actual AFL performance, not abstract prognostications about his potential at AFL level. That is the golden mean, even for players who display much more versatility at VFL level.

On the Stanley issue i do not hear people talk or acknowledge his second and only consecutive game against Sydney where he showed he was more than capable to match up at the top level. If we rate all players on a handful of errors in a couple of games then not many players would last the distance. The trouble with some of the uneducated supporters is that they have been spoilt with Daisy and Pends being ready made players and the expectation is that all young players need to instantly perform.

On the issue of MM, I have no doubt that unless you are an MM project or he wants to make good press for himself by pushing the new blood straight away then you do not get a fair go.

On the VFL issues the comments that indicate that VFL form carries little creadence on AFL form then that is just plain dumb, where else is an out of form or an upcoming player supposed to show case his talents, perhaps it is who can do circuit work at training or pump the most weights or bend for MM at training the best. I can tell you the selectors certainly take an interest in the VFL form and suggest player selections only to have MM at times make the final call on team balance or whatever, thats what a coach is there for.

So I say give "The DS Express" a good and decent go before we judge to hard.

Maxwell is a very average player and even worse captain, tell me where was he on saturday?

He has over the last 2 weeks popped his head up for 5 minutes in the 3rd not good enough from a captain.

1st half Maxwell was fumbling and turning it over and largely unsighted, this never gets brought up by his fanboi's on here.

People shit canning N.Brown's performance on miller but when Maxwell got moved to him Miller had 4 marks in as many minutes, 5 minutes later Presti was moved on to him and shut him down.

1 of them is a 2nd year AFL player the other in his 8th season.

I Really hope we play him its getting beyond a joke now

MM bite the bullet play him in the middle not on the flank and lets see what he can do over a month of footy

Scotland would be very handy in our team at the moment
