Watch out for Ruby Svarc anybody who goes to any of these. Nippy little winger and a lovely girl too. Played at my club last year and got best on in the Granny, as well as finishing 1 vote off winning the league bnf.

GOAL! 6-0 now.

Spent the first 16 minutes of the first quarter dancing between half forward and the wings, round and round. Not actually bad to watch but no score until now.

And that's the quarter time score too. Connection between mids and forwards not perfect and a bit of kicking efficiency lacking. Much like last night.

Disappointed they've got Ruby Svarc listed as recruited from "Salesian". The club is St Marys-Salesian, a merged entity.
Yeah, and we're more St. Mary's than Salesian

Post-match interview with Hayley Bullas, actually a pretty good interview I thought. It's also got some highlights intercut with it which is good if you didn't get to watch it or just want to see it again.

Reviewing round 1:
“We played our brand of footy all the way through, which was really good. We brought exactly what we wanted – we were really hard at the contest, we were that first possession to the ball…and it was really exciting,” Bullas said post-game.

“I guess in the second and fourth quarter, we kind of lagged a little bit and were set back, but next week it’ll just be bringing our four quarters of footy.”

"Trusting the process":
“Yes, we have a young side, but we really took it to them and stepped up. We’ve been working seven months for this and we really went out onto the ground and trusted the process,” she said.

“(Head coach Brendan) Major this year always talks about trusting the process and it was really awesome to see that through everyone.”

“I mean, there wasn’t as many tackles (as last year), because we had that first possession."

Looking ahead to round 2:
“We just need a little bit more belief throughout our four quarters, a little bit more of that belief could go a long way for us."

“Definitely bringing that pressure again, putting that pressure on, being the first to the footy, we want to cover off that outside and make sure we’re using their outside as well."

“You saw Ruby (Svarc) just kill it on the outside today because she held that and same with Isabel (Currenti), so if we can get it out to them, they can really use that speed to get it into our forward line, which is exciting.”

And this bit made me smile:
"Everybody else at the club is getting behind us, so I’m excited to see what next week is going to bring."

Two more new bombers with Ally Anderson and Lauren Ahrens joining the club :) Anderson played for Brisbane in the AFLW so she's a good get for us.

Essendon’s VFLW side has received a huge boost with AFLW star Ally Anderson and emerging gun Lauren Ahrens joining the Bombers at The Hangar.

Anderson is an inaugural member of Brisbane’s AFLW side and has since starred in the top league, culminating in an All-Australian selection and Lions Best and Fairest victory this year.

The ball-magnet averaged 21 disposals a game in the 2019 season and has proven durable in her three years at AFL level, playing in all 23 possible games.

Ahrens arrives after playing 13 VFLW games for Melbourne University last year and is set to add good size and strength to the side, with marking a clear strongpoint.

Apparently VFLW Captain Courtney Ugle helped coordinate the Dreamtime ceremony and photoshoot at the club for the Indigenous round this weekend.

So we have ten Indigenous players at the moment, 7 in the VFLW team (Ally Anderson is missing from the pic above) and 3 in the AFL team :)

The upcoming VFLW game is the first installment of a triple header fixture on Saturday between Essendon and Richmond, with the VFL teams also playing at Punt Road at 2.30pm and the AFL teams down the road at the 'G at 7.25pm.
