Those games are in bold are part of a double-header with the men's VFL team.

Will show more interest in this than I will AFLX
The only interest I have in that x crap is looking at the injury lists at the end of each day of games to make sure we got thru ok.

From a Geelong Addy article in Friday's paper:

MEANWHILE, the Cats will meet the Western Bulldogs in a VFLW practice match on Sunday, with players on the AFLW list who have not played to get some game time.

“It’s a little bit of a selection trial too for our VFLW squad, and the opportunity to play half-a-dozen AFLW players who haven’t had a lot of match practise, it gives them a great chance to sharpen up before they hopefully get an opportunity with the AFLW team,” Hood said.

The Bendigo Bank Cats have finalised their 2019 playing list, comprising of 20 AFLW listed players and 20 VFLW listed players.

There are a host of familiar names, as well as some fresh faces from local and surrounding areas.

The 40-player squad includes 20 of the 24 2020 Geelong AFLW squad members.

That group includes inaugural AFLW captain Melissa Hickey, gun midfielder Rocky Cranston and impressive youngsters Olivia Purcell and Sophie Van De Heuvel.

Preview is up on vfl.com.au

KEY RECRUITS (non-AFLW-listed)

Annie Haigh (20yo in 2019, from St Mary’s): “Annie came through the Geelong Falcons system in 2017. She’s a quick player who also knows how to find the footy, and she’s really worked on her fitness and the cleanliness of her disposal under increased pressure. We’re working with her as a midfielder, but we’re looking to develop her ability to move from inside the contest to the outside.”

Breanna Beckley (22yo in 2019, from St Mary’s): “Bree is a smaller player with a netball background. She has really fast feet and manages to find her way through congestion quite well. She’s been with us for the early parts of a couple of previous pre-seasons to work out the level she’s needed to get to, and she’s made steady improvement this year.”

PRE-SEASON PERFORMERS

Zoe Inei (19yo in 2019, two VFLW games), Tarryn Love (19yo in 2019, three VFLW games) and Sachi DeGiacomi (19yo in 2019, one VFLW game): “These three girls weren’t drafted last year but have come back to us and developed well this pre-season. Zoe is a tall developing ruck who goes forward, Tarryn is an inside midfielder who’s a really hard, contested player and Sachi is a forward.”

AFLW DRAFT PROSPECTS

Amy McDonald (21yo in 2019, 17 VFLW games) and Rebecca Pearce (28yo in 2019, 43 VFLW games): “Amy and Bec are probably the two players that are closest to taking that next step to the AFLW, as they’ve been able to see within arm’s reach what is possible for them if they keep working hard at developing their game… I wouldn’t rule any of our squad members out though!”

LEADERSHIP MATERIAL

“We want to wait until we have all our squad members (VFLW and AFLW) training together and then we’ll consult the players about what they feel is a good way forward with the leadership group.”

TEAM STRENGTHS

“I want to be known for my ability to support (Geelong AFLW senior coach) Paul Hood’s program and help these players develop over the winter, so that whoever is in that AFLW squad come November is in a good position to move forward.

“Coming out of the last AFLW season – and in previous VFLW seasons – we were a good defensive unit with players that work to shut down the opposition’s ball movement well, but we want to move the ball into attack better. We have safe ways of moving the footy, but it’s about how we can be more adventurous with our ball movement.”

Like the sound of that last sentence. Will be interesting to see how we develop the attacking side of our game over the course of the season.

It's great to see that we have a good continuity between our AFLW and VFLW teams - surely good for the side going forward during both seasons

love seeing Bec Webster named in the centre; she played off half-back during the first half of her debut AFLW season before succumbing to injury, but she's capable of stepping into the middle and making an impact. interesting that Boyd and Purcell are named emergencies ..

Will be interesting to see how Jordan Ivey goes on the ball too.

Saw that; I like it, good to get plenty of run in her legs and the more she is around the contest the more she'll get used to winning the ball.

Blakeway at full back another move which, if it plays out like that on the day, would be a good developmental step for her.

Krock has an article on Nat Wood, our new VFLW coach, but this bit helps explain the selection policy regarding AFLW & VFLW players:

Geelong is allowed to field up to 12 AFLW listed players from the previous season but will go with only nine against the North Melbourne-aligned Uni team.

Also no Teague

I guess only being able to field 12 AFLW listed players means bit of a juggling act - where is the team strong outside of the AFLW listed players as they may select those first and then fit the AFLW players into the gaps
