So Draft Central have gotten to the point where they’re now producing a draft guide thing for the girls. Here are the write ups for our VFLW players 😊

Be interesting to see who gets drafted… bittersweet that it’s not to our own AFLW team, but nonetheless. The draft is 6.45PM next Tuesday… or at least it’s supposed to be. Who knows with COVID.

So the last two games should definitely go ahead and our players will be allowed and encouraged to play for us even if they are drafted to an AFLW club before our finals series is finished 😊
There is also a strong commitment to complete the rebel VFLW Preliminary and Grand Finals, with defending premier Collingwood, Essendon and Geelong remaining in contention to take out the flag.

The latest lockdown means the rebel VFLW Grand Final cannot be played before the AFLW Draft, which is set down for next Tuesday, July 27, and the AFL has written to all AFLW clubs to declare that any player drafted must be allowed and encouraged to complete the VFLW season before joining their new team.

Prelim is back on! No fans, but should be available to stream on kayo.

VFLW PRELIMINARY FINAL
Essendon v Geelong
12pm, Saturday, July 31
Windy Hill

Essendon will play its long-awaited VFLW preliminary final against Geelong at Windy Hill on Saturday, following Victoria's lockdown being lifted.

The match will begin at 12pm, but with certain COVID-19 restrictions still in place, fans unfortunately won't be able to attend. They'll instead be able to tune into a live stream, with details to be confirmed.

The Bombers were originally slated to face the Cats on July 17 until Victoria's lockdown delayed the game by two weeks.

Should Essendon defeat Geelong, it will advance to the VFLW Grand Final against Collingwood at North Port Oval on Sunday, August 8.

This season's VFLW finals series has marked the Bombers' first since its inception in 2018.

Also congratulations to Georgie Prespakis (Pick 2, Geelong), Zali Friswell (Pick 7, Geelong), Emilia Yassir (Pick 16, Richmond), Tara Slender (Pick 19, North Melbourne), Elizabeth Snell (Pick 27, Western Bulldogs), and Tahlia Gillard (Pick 42, Melbourne) who were drafted to AFLW clubs this evening!

Perhaps somewhat obviously, but it didn’t occur to me… two of our players (Friswell and Prespakis) will be playing against their new AFLW team in this prelim 😅

Why do they keep telling us it's on kayo and then it isn't? Not that I'm not grateful. I have Foxtel and fta, seems silly to have kayo as well just so I can watch one random game every three months.

"A SPOT in the 2021 rebel VFLW Grand Final is on the line when football returns to Windy Hill today.

After a two week lay-off, Geelong and Essendon will go head to head for the second time this season to see who will face Collingwood next week in the Grand Final.

The last time these sides met was back in round 10 at Deakin University in Geelong, with the Cats coming out as winners that day by 23-points. Sophie Van De Heuvel was the difference with 19 disposals, two goals and seven tackles, while Georgia Nanscawen led Essendon with 22 touches."
