There is a large 6700 hectare grassfire travelling fast in a North Easterly direction from Wunghnu towards Numurkah.
This grassfire is currently not yet under control.

- Senior Citizens Rooms- Welsford Street,

This is a Watch and Act message issued by Country Fire Authority for Baulkamaugh North, Bunbartha, Drumanure, Dunbulbalane, Invergordon, Marungi, Mundoona, Naring, Numurkah, Wunghnu areas.

There is a large 12,700 hectare grassfire travelling slowly towards the identified control lines.

CFA firefighters have advised that the three (3) fires have merged into one large fire called the Wunghnu Complex.

This grassfire is currently not yet under control.

There is active fire in the Brooke Court and Kinnards Road area. This area is closed to the public. Please stay away from this area for safety reasons and to allow Emergency Service Vehicles to continue fire fighting activities.

Residents are advised to keep montoring the situation, continue to check for updates and remain vigilant at all times.

Motorists are advised to take extra caution due to additional CFA trucks undertaking firefighting operations in these areas. There will be smoke in the area. Please take caution when travelling and turn on your car headlights.

Assessments are being conducted on roads, power lines, power poles, railways and trees for hazards and safety issues to the public. Members are advised until these assessments are completed the area is unsafe to the general public.


Road Closures:

The Katamatite-Nathalia road is closed between Katamatite and Numurkah.
All other major roads are open.
There maybe local roads which are closed including Wunghnu road to Shepparton-Katamatite Road and Kaarimba Road into Wunghnu.

Community meetings will be held today Monday 10thFebruary for information regarding the current fire.

2:00pm – Wunghnu, Wunghnu Tavern, Goulburn Valley Highway

6:00 pm – Numurkah, St Josephs Primary School, Mary McKillop Center, Tocumwal Road.
