These people aren't self aware enough to understand this mate, i live in Adelaide and never would i complain about lack of Collingwood coverage on the nightly news. Why? Because i understand most people who are watching the program, and who it is targeted at... couldn't give a shit.

Pies being Pies still get some coverage, but they only acknowledge the existence of St Kilda due to dreams of getting NWM and Wilkie back to SA.

It's not about whether it's ok or not, but I agree with you that it's not. It's that the media is outside of the AFL competition and unless you think the AFL should be controlling media shows are completely irrelevant to bias within the competition.

The AFL totally control the media, the media these days are just puppets of AFL head office. Hence why the AFL have got away with completely changing the sport and doing with it what they want when they want.

The Media and the fans were once on the same team.

Now its the AFL and the media on the same team and the fans have no longer any say.

Thats just the reality and it's been like this for many years now.

Yeah mate. Murdoch lets a relatively tiny admin of a sports competition control one of his media arms ... Newscorp is notoriously incredibly compliant in terms of who is in control ... The AFL is the minnow of the business relationship.

This bordering on Paranoia, i think some sections of the public pay some of these organisations far too much credit.

Some of you need to attend a general marketing course.

So you don't believe the AFL has any control over what their media partners say and how they say it in their footy content? You been living under a rock?

How is it paranoia, I am not talking about any bias here. Just stating that the AFL have complete control over what their media partners can and can't say.

The AFL could change the game to a round ball tomorrow and the AFL media will sell it to the public for them. Been like this for decades now.

You're right, that's why we have dedicated programs like Simmo and Goss and the Drive home with Haze

Yeah this hyperbolic,

The afl certainly has influence, no doubt, and I'm more than certain the media is more influenced by their ratings and where and what those demographics are.

But to claim the afl has authoritarian control on media content is just ridiculous.

I don't share this opinion mate, the AFL is not an all powerful organisation lol.

They are driven by need for the $$, to continue to target key areas' of growth - to attract more $$, and every decision they make has that direction in mind. To get the most $$ value they need to appeal to the most people possible, which means they are driven by public sentiment and marketability.

Some things are easier than others and mistakes always get made, as these decisions are made in boardrooms and by canvassing opinion. It is like any other bloated corporate organisation. They are not the deep state lol,

The AFL media is exactly the same and if the AFL ****s up they jump on it.

There's some serious middle child syndrome at work in this thread.

Control absolutely not. Some influence with their partners - yes. However, much of the media isn't partnered with the AFL.

Nah, we're interstate, Sydney is interstate from us, WC are interstate from Brisbane.
The real AFL clubs

And then theres the 10 VFL legacy clubs squished into a postage stamp parcel of land.
They're just Vic clubs.
The funny thing is they think the postage stamp is the best state in Australia
It’s an overcrowded shit hole with awful weather.

Fyfe retires and AFL's primetime show 360 doesn't mention it as a leading topic.

In fairness, most of the first 12 minutes of the show were devoted to- 'Brisbane player grabbing a Sydney player's jatz crackers', 'Matt Rowell is awesome' 'Isaac Heeney is even awesomer' 'whats going on with Brisbane?'.

So less Vic bias, and more indifference to certain teams over others.

Sounds like a standard footy show - except less talk about Sam Darcy and Nick Daicos.

Like every other Melbourne or Vic team, that’s what happens when more then half the comp plays in one state.

Blame the universe for you being born in a state that can only support 1 and half teams

Yeah, screw god for putting me in a state that can actually run a budget surplus and has money to burn.

Shakes fist at sky ✊

Not sure how I can live with myself missing out on being able to join the Vic welfare crew and vote in that potato Jacinta Allan?

See!! Like you have so succinctly put, there is mucho benefits in living in a place that only has to look after a fifth of the populace as one of your bigger eastern brothers.

Thank God indeed, just don't expect him to afford you anymore relevance to the wider public and be happy in that little ignorant bubble, enjoy!
