how would they "murder him"?
with constant whingeing?
hitting him with handbags?
sharing their illegal substances with him?
drowning him in chardonnay?
getting him to hang our with masto & shazza?

Duh! In the conservatory with the candlestick, of course!

The AFL have stated last year that if any Essendon player wants to leave the club because of the ASADA investigation they can leave \break their contract .
Ryder can leave but Essendon would have to be compensated by the Club they go to because he is not a free agent and he is contracted .
So we would still have to do a deal .
Wrong. Ryder would become a delisted free agent under the clauses written in his contract with the Bombers if he chooses to get out that way. We do not have to do a deal in this instance. If Ryder wants to leave and says 'trade me' or I trigger the clause then yes the Bombers would need to find someone to do a deal for something.

I'm amazed no one has suggested Patty Ryder on this board . Western Australian boy who wants out from Essendon and wants to come home .
Now if we are talking trades and like for like as well as draft picks go this guy is a huge improvement on anything you guys have mentioned , discussed and waffled about period .
Pat is AA second ruck tall marking forward and has the ability to play the RTB game plan . Even if he cops an ASADA ban we would love to have him no question .
Salary would be in the $600,000 Bracket and a minimum of a 4 year deal for him would not be overs and the trade could be done with a first round draft pick plus a quality player or 2 , hopefully Colin Sylvia plus Menegola .

Coulda, im not sure if you're taking the piss...but really?? Menegola - the bloke hasnt played an AFL game and is still on the rookie list.

Ive read this thread right through from start to finish and it's hurting my head :(

I would like the club to pursue Ryder if we were a chance of getting him, which we arent. The media reports all point to him going to Queensland. Ryder would be a great inclusion at Fremantle though. A ready to go replacement for McPharlin.

As for Vickery - what would the tigers want? Too much I would think for a bloke that is in and out of their side.

Uhh, you do realize he's a ruckman / forward?? How is he comparable to an AA defender?

Agree with us being next to no chance for Ryder. We should go after Carlsile though. As for Vickery, I'd give them Menangola and not much else (read I do not want).

I know who Ryder is and what he does - thanks for the rhetorical question. Ryder certainly has played the role as a utility for the bombers. He does and has played through defence as well. Think outside the box - not what the dream team manual tells you. He can be very aggressive with his play as well. A nice fit for Freo'. A genuine shame we have no chance of signing him if you believe the media reports - which are most likely true.

Would Menangola have much value? Unfortunately he hasn't been able to break into the Freo and Hawks teams. I share your sentiment though. I would give a 4th rounder for Vickery. I'm not sure Menangola would want to leave Western Australia.

Was a tongue in cheek comment. Menengola has zero trade value. I'm actually against getting Vickery.

He's been very good in defence. If we got him, I'd think he'd do well in our back half and is certainly good enough to cover for Johnson at the minimum.

I was suggesting him with my tongue stuck firmly in my cheek.

I'd cream my pants if we got Ryder. I reckon he would thrive in our team and would strengthen the defence significantly.

I don't want Vickery because I don't see him as an improvement on the players already on our list , where as Ryder and Carlisle would be of more value to us.

You don't think he's an improvement over Jack Hannath? He is the guy Vickery would likely replace on our list. Consider that next year will likely be Sandilands last year and Griffin will most probably be gone too, who is our #2 ruckman after Zac Clarke?

I agree Ryder would be much better, but he apparently only wants to go to Brisbane.

Talk around the traps is that Vickery is being shopped around, especially now that Griffiths has re-signed. sounds like Clark is out of the picture so would we consider. He would likely give the WC ruckman a good smack-down. Please try and keep the conversation civil.
McKernan? Don't rate but would he fill a hole for a while?

He never made the grade...nor will he. Taberner is the man. I was a critic, but even after last week I am sure the kid is going to be a star.
Why in the heck would you go for an under performing tall in an under performing team that has no skills apart from the fact that he is tall (noskillbuttall)?

Refer to draft document 1.1 : recruit young talent that play AFL that are going to be tall for KPP or rule 1.2 pick most talented player available such as Walters, Ballantyne, Crozier and Simpson (I have faith he will come back).

Rule 2.0 is only recruit recycled players that will add benefit. See the "who is" thread?

Taberner isn't a ruckman. We would pursue Vickery to play as a forward/ruck, while Taberner and Apeness played as permanent forwards.

I don't get why Hannath can't be our #2 ruck.

Breaking down how Clarke's been for us. This year, he missed a preseason but has probably still had a better season than that across-the-road palm tree of a ruckman, Nic Nat that, as we've heard all year, didn't get a preseason. It sounds like an excuse, but preseasons are pretty huge & important. And Clarke has been inconsistent, and gone missing occassionally, but he's been decent in the ruck. And as our #1 ruckman, his ability up forward becomes less important. Go back to last year where he had a healthy year, he got his turn to be #1 ruck after being thrown in the deep end with sandi, griff & keps going down. He had a bloody great year, and if he gets a decent preseason, and is able to return to that form, then I'm fully confident of him being able to take over when Sandi retires.

And for the #2 ruck, Hannath's done a decent job for Peel - and it's hard to do a decent job for a team where almost every single player can play in the ruck. He's still young and has at least another year to develop before he'd be required to be in the best 22. Freo have obviously seen something in him giving him a contract extension. The only worry I'd have would be if he has to take over #1 ruck due injury or something. And I don't think Vickery or McKernan would be that much better than him, if at all.

I don't see a problem with looking for another ruckman/forward type, but I don't see the point of settling for a couple of very questionable players when we've already stockpiled a tonne of rucks in the 2nds (and 3rds)
