Does anyone else feel more comfortable with Vickery in the Ruck opposed to Graham/Browne?

I sure do. I actually think he is our #1 Ruckman and am more confident in our team when he is in there. I am also loving his forward work and Tyrone has been fantastic this year, most improved for sure.

That's how I see it in the future, not at the moment though. He's playing the number 2 ruck position this season, but will be number 1 ruck in our next flag.

I would prefer to see Browne or Graham (or someone else) develop into our number 1 ruck, but mainly because I think Vickery is doing such a great job up forward I want to keep him up there as much as possible ! Also, at this stage (and this may well change as he gets bigger / more mature), he doesn't really impose himself in ruck contests. He is not soft, but seems a bit more timid than alot of the more mature ruckman. As I said, this will probably change as he develops and matures. For the time being though, I would prefer to see him continue to spend more time forward than in the ruck.

Vickery is playing so well as a forward that i dont really want him in the number 1 ruck role permanently. From the remaining ruckman we have i honestly believe Tom Derickx will become our number 1 ruckman over Browne and Graham once he is fit.

of course he's our next ruckman. It's just a matter of finding who is going to be there with him in the coming years. His output will increase towards the end of the season which will give Post and Griffiths an opportunity up forward.

I seem to recall seeing an article not long ago (maybe interviewing his dad) about how he would try hard in the ruck but was giving away 20kgs. In a season or 2, he could very well match the bigger bodied rucks going around. :thumbsu:

I'd prefer him to remain as a second ruck/third tall forward, hes the ideal player for the new sub rule.

The reason why id prefer him to remain up forward more is his upside as a third tall are:

- Hes 200cm and going to be 100+ kg, third defenders are going to struggle big time with his size.
- He doesnt fumble the ball like alot of ruckman, he takes the grab at the first attempt and will only improve with more strength
- His accelaration for his size is elite meaning his oppenent wont be able to run off him and he will fit our forward defensive structures
- His set shot kicking is such an asset, 3 inside 50 marks will almost always equal 3 goals with Ty.

so ideally for Ty - 60% up forward, 25% in the Ruck and 15% on the pine IMO.

Not yet, Lade says he is our future 1st Ruckmen but the role he is playing he is currently doing a good job and getting vaulable game time. He is also not getting he's body smashed around as much with he's smaller frame in the found line so homefully the elimates future injurys that many ruckmen suffer from. Having a ruckman like Vickery also enables us to play with two ruckmen but not having to limited ruckmen. Would be great to know were Vickery rathers and thinks he would be best at.

Browne has only played 8 games and he has let his opponent loose a couple of times, but he competes well in the ruck contests and can take a good mark. In time he'll be pretty good. :thumbsu:

I was tryn to think of a afl player more unco over the last 30 years than browne and i carnt seriously name any.

That's definitely a poser ! Buster Browne (as aptly named by R. Walls a few weeks ago) seems pretty unco - he does bring other assets in though - I reckon he is pretty tough in at it - 'takes no prisoners'

Perfect case scanerio is Vicks playing forwrd/no.2 ruck imo and someone else as no.1. Not sure he's at the club yet.

Another option could be to have 2 utility type ruckmen. For example, if we got trengove, vickery could play 60% in the ruck, 40% up forward, while trengove plays 40% in the ruck and 60% down back. A swingman like post can cover vickery and trengove when they are in the ruck.

So to start with -
Tall Backs: Rance, McGuane, Trengove
Tall Forwards: Riewoldt, Griffiths, Vickery
Swingman: Post/Gourdis/Astbury

Not saying this is the best option, and Schulz/Hughes/Patto have shown us that messing with the positioning of a young KP player can be disastrous...but its something to consider I guess.

nar not our number 1
WE really need to go hard in the trade this year for a ruck
brisbane has 2 rucks out of contract both better than our current stock
mitch clark an the long named kid starting with l

In all honesty I don't want him rucking at all. He looked a very good forward in the Under 18 Championships and I think he should develop there rather than trying to master two positions.

i reconize him but havn trouble puttn name to him, drivn me mad now.

Haha. James Manson.

Seems an age ago now that TV was being labelled soft and scared.

Has certainly shown this season that he has a bit of c u next tuesday in him. Another pre-season or two and he could be an amazing around the ground ruckman IMO. Cox like even.

It's got to the point where I don't even bother blowing my load over Lids, Martin, Cotch and Jack anymore. It's just a given that they are guns. I'm focusing my loads on Vickery, Conca, and even Rance and Houli lately. How ridiculously good is that? 12 months ago we were holding on to the fact that we had four stars. Now it's so obvious that it doesn't even matter anymore, there are other people to get just as excited about.

TV i recon just mite b showing more than cox was at the same age very exciting prospect hope he doesnt get poached by sheeds and the big dollars.

I'd be planning (as the RFC football dept - well I can dream) on developing TV as a forward / ruck. Playing maybe 30-40% ruck and the rest forward + time resting. What we need then is a ruck that can do the smash and crash and get around the ground. Currently Gus does that to an OK level at times. Browne looks good in many ways but can't kick (BIG problem to me). Big X I don't know. So I'd just keep pumping the development into the 4 of them and hope we get two winners.

If we have to trade it will cost big time, and we shouldn't do that until the window is open and we are contenders. A total waste doing it now.

Was commenting about Vickery during the game and thought how if reminded me of Ottens when he started with us. Hopeifully Vickery stays.
