Shouldn't lol but... UK embassy guards escorted diplomats to the airport and helped them board an evac flight, and were told to go home and they weren't eligible to even apply for assistance (even though some of them had been front-line staffing the embassy for 10 years) because they were contractors and not employees. Go talk to your Canadian employer.

So typical.
Personally, I would rather go to Canada.

I doubt the Canucks would be interested, they're working for a company and not their government.

News:
The Biden administration is reportedly considering airstrikes in Afghanistan in hopes of vaporizing large amounts of US military hardware captured by the Taliban after the militant group took control of the country.
US officials told Reuters there is concern that military aircraft, vehicles and weapon stockpiles seized by the Taliban during the group’s offensive could be used against Afghan civilians, or find their way to terrorist organizations such as Islamic State or Al-Qaeda.
“Everything that hasn't been destroyed is the Taliban's now,” one source told the news agency on Thursday.
The US government is now reviewing its options, including the possibility of launching airstrikes to take out large hardware such as helicopters – although policymakers are reportedly concerned that the move would antagonize the Taliban at a time when the United States is rushing to evacuate personnel and citizens from the country.

Well, duhhh.

In 2010 Osama bin Laden wrote to one of his commanders urging them to be on the lookout for any lightning visits of Obama to Afghanistan in order that he be assassinated. However Biden was not to be touched, because Biden was totally unprepared to be President and would lead the US into a crisis. And that was 11 years ago when Biden could still string a few coherent sentences together.

UK approached the Taliban and now have SAS operators going out into Kabul and escorting people back through the roadblocks to the airport. Same deal with French commandos.

Washington Examiner:
"The commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division has told the commander of the British special forces at the Kabul airport to cease operations beyond the airport perimeter.
Maj. Gen. Christopher Donahue has told his British Army counterpart, a high-ranking field-grade officer of the British army's 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, that British operations were embarrassing the United States military in the absence of similar U.S. military operations. I understand that the British officer firmly rejected the request."

In the meantime, US 82nd Airborne used three Chinooks to airlift 169 Americans from a hotel 200m from the airport because they couldn't get through by road.

Edit: UK have bowed to public pressure and are now saying they will bring out the embassy guards.

Yeah, nah, GAGF

Same "you were employed by our contractor not us" bullshit. The UK govt has reversed its decision, ours won't.
They are evacuating Afganis to Perth right now.
ABC are just trouble makers.
This story below from the ABC from a few days ago shows we are rescuing them.
In that picture above, I agree, we dont want the soldiers here. They are just locals with guns payed to stand outside our embassy.

Fairly substantial news that a number of the SASR are not going to be charged or investigated further. Evidence in the report that came out will purportedly not hold up in a court. There's apparently a very high discharge rate happening at the moment from the unit, and some looking to sue. Not sure what to make of all that just yet.

I suspect it’s staffing numbers, so the Army will quietly look the other way, especially if they were only accessories to crimes. Like in any workplace, those at risk of getting sacked due misconduct suddenly find themselves getting let off scott free if their employer has a need for them.

And it seems it’s evidence that won’t hold up in court, not exoneration.

Of course the Murdoch press is hailing this as Vindication! Innocence! Heroes!

Pretty much just further proof that we’ll never end up prosecuting our own, especially not with the current government.

I get where you are coming from, but that these two sentences ar side by side should trigger alarm bells about objectivity.

Looks like an ADF witness/whistleblower to alleged Australian warcrimes has been 'sent a message' about her whistleblowing...

Defence Force relocates key war crimes witness after blast at her NSW home

August 26 2021

A witness in the Brereton Inquiry into alleged war crimes in Afghanistan has had her house targeted in an early morning incident that blew in windows and embedded glass in floors, ceilings and walls.

The Defence Force immediately relocated the witness and her family after the incident because of fears for their safety.

The witness — Captain Louise* — is a former special operations intelligence officer who deployed to Afghanistan in 2012-2013.
Broken window

New South Wales Police failed to find any suspects, and in responding to a complaint by the witness acknowledged that the investigating officer had "dropped the ball".

Captain Louise said that in November last year, she and her family were woken at 3:15am by several large blasts or crashes.

"I don't know how to describe that noise. It was shatteringly loud. And there was almost like three immediately following one another," she said.

Three windows at the front of the house were shattered, each containing two panes of glass.

"We had wooden floors. It had gouged the wooden floors underneath, it was embedded in the ceiling, over two-and-a-half metres [away].

"It was embedded in the ceiling and embedded all in the wall opposite. It was embedded in a wall immediately adjacent to the window as well. And in some spots, the glass was powder.

"Whatever they did required an awful lot of force."

During her deployment to Afghanistan in 2012-2013, Captain Louise was told by an SAS operator about a mass killing just hours after his patrol had returned to base.

The SAS operator, known as Soldier C, is the former husband of Captain Louise.

Soldier C is under investigation by the Australian Federal Police after Four Corners last year broadcast footage of him killing an unarmed and frightened Afghan in a wheat field in May 2012...

New book out by reporter Mark Willacy:

Have just finished this and can strongly recommend - elevates the soldiers (and others) who courageously spoke out against the vile culture being encouraged and facilitated by the NCOs.

Hastie, whatever you think of his personal and political beliefs, is also revealed as a pretty decent human being who faced some pretty challenging circumstances.

Further reports from Kabul say there was one suicide bomber, not two, and eyewitness accounts say US guards indiscriminately lit up the area after the bomb went off, materially increasing the body/casualty count.

Some clarification about the disinformation campaign being run by News Corp, 7 News and the Daily Mail:

The “revelation” last week that all those SAS accused had been “cleared of any wrongdoing” and got an apology from Dutton is total nonsense. They are all still under active investigation.

There’s an active campaign to destroy confidence in the Brereton Report and the war crimes prosecutions.

I’ve just finished it too.

What struck me was the fact all of those who blew the whistle (and were interviewed for the book) have suffered irreparable mental or physical damage which will stay with them for life. A virtual life sentence if you will.

Whilst those who perpetrated the acts seem less likely to be held to account with every passing day. Now they have strong backing in some media circles to win their PR battle and hope the government quietly drop investigations.

Spoiler Alert - what shocked me was the book contains details of a meeting between the author and a soldier accused of war crimes. I didn’t expect any of them would be willing to talk, but one did. I won’t reveal details of what was said, but it gave a great insight into what was running through the heads of those perpetrating these acts.

Probably the best Australian book I’ve read in years, reveals far more background info than what’s been reported in the media.

Looks like his ex is in deep poo. Lies layered upon lies slowly being dismantled. It would not be fun being her friend, Danielle Scott. Wont be long before she has to go before a Supreme Court Judge and say how she came across Ben's email login and password...

Yeah I'd probably start firing too if terrorists were taking over my city and people were running towards me and blowing themselves up.
