The AFL has confirmed that four more teams are heading to Victoria this afternoon, to try and get ahead of the unfolding COVID-19 outbreak.

The Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns were expected to fly out from Queensland, but the league announced in a statement that they would be joined by West Coast and Fremantle.

AFL executive general manager Travis Auld said the decision to bring clubs to Victoria had been made to manage the "evolving situation" across the country.

Once Queensland and WA stopped being options it was always likely. Given our patchy form I don't think we are challenging anyway. A Victorian hub just makes it more likely.

Not a big drama for us. Our next three games are Swans, North and Crows. Swans was already moved to Kardinia and we should still be able to play Crows at Adelaide Oval (given we will fly in from Melbourne).

That just leaves North for the game where we get disadvantaged. As long as we get to choose the venue, then we should be fine (I'd like Adelaide Oval or MCG).

Jon Ralph was almost in tears on joy over this thought on the weekend. I don't think I will actively watch the rest of the season to be honest, another farce and I'm sick of watching the same story from our club as the past few years too.

2 week pause in the season and re-assess after that, would have been much easier if this was a few weeks ago though.
If it is same as now well so be it we hub and play in Vic/SA/TAS at least "home games" can be at a neutral venue.
If the lockdown states are cleaned up we can go back to normal just 2 weeks later.

Considering our last HUB performance was beyond laughable, fingers crossed we do not have another HUB. I tell you what west coast eagles are not that far away off Sam Peng's nickname "Orchid". We can only thrive under pristine conditions. That should be our new nickname.

In our last HUB performance we went 3-2 while playing 5 games in 21 days and missing a number of key players, with the two losses coming against the eventual premiers (27 points) and a top six side (2 points).

Losing to Gold coast suns by 44 was terrible for a so-called contender. Losing to Power by 48 in a neutral ground was terrible. Did you forget there were two hubs?? that terrible start to the year cost us the top 4. not the close loss to dogs. we basically shot ourselves out of top 4 contentions which that percentage killer results in a short-season short game format.

Playing consecutive games in a short period?? really?? that's your excuse?? every team had to go through that and didn't capitulate the way we did. you gotta stop defending the indefensible. have some objectivity in your response for once so you could be treated with more respect.I understand over the top polarized one way always criticizing the team is too much and many ppl do it, however, equally terrible is what you do where you are on an autopilot mode defending the team at all cost.

Sometimes it's an injury for you, sometimes it's a condensed fixture BS as mentioned above, then when we get injured players back and get destroyed at home turf, it's probably players coming back to the squad that need more time nonsense from you. When exactly are you going to acknowledge that perhaps we are not as good as we think we are and others are better than us and also admit that we are incompetent in many areas to achieve the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is not to build a team to win a flag. The ultimate goal is to build a team for sustained success dynasty multiple flags, not just one.

Buried deep in your rant was the actual point I was making.

There were two hubs last year. (Or HUBS, because you like to capitalize it for some reason).

In the first one we sucked. In the last one we actually performed pretty well all things considered.

But the Melbourne-based footy media will ignore the second bit and continue to parrot the line about West Coast whingeing about having to hub and playing terribly. And plenty of idiots, even those who are supposedly West Coast fans, will lap it up and start parroting the same line themselves.
