Dont know how far or what kind of response Ill get with this, But anyway.

The draw is done and we now look forward to the first weekend in October.

We (Warma Turtles) will be again playing in Div 1, hoping to bring the Goerge Atkinson Trophy back to Echuca.

A mixed draw for us playing Lake Condah first then the West Vic Eels (who I'm told will include Nathan Lovett-Murray and Andrew Lovett) and finally our new arch rival in the Fitzroy Stars. Will interesting to see who they come up with.

We still waiting to hear on our two AFL boys to see if they can play will be very handy if they are.

Some of our bigger name players will be Djaran Whyman Ex North Melbourne forward, Rex Taylor and Corey Wanganeen both Bendigo Bombers VFL and Josh Young from Williamstown VFL.

FFFFFFFFFEEEEEKKKK is it that time of year again??? Let's hope the weathers good.
Two questions;
1) Who's said to have the best A grade team on paper??
2) And who's got the best Gernseys this year??

1- I'm tipping West Vic Eels to go the distance this year, i've heard Essendon pair Andrew Lovett and Nat Rat are gonna play which will just stengthen their team as apposed to "making" it. Warma will get through the Saturday but I reackon they'll fall short on the sunday because all of their kids ARE PISS HEADS (I'm looking at you Rexy and Clayty pie. . .:D:D)
2-I reckon Worawa have the best jumpers but i don't think they'er entering this year?? . . . . . . but on the wrong people they look like a rainbow thru up all over them!!!!

More posts people, COME ON!!!!!

And rexy. . . . . . .Stay away from those fat chix this year!!

Im sure the stars will be waiting for you in the final again morgs, its the stars for 4 in a row for me.[/

Well as long as it dont turn out like last time we played them in Melbourne I will be happy.

how about some tips fellas.

Div 1: Warma Turtles

Div 2: Commella

Best Overall.

Div 1: Djaran Whyman (Warma Turtles)

Div 2: John Jackson (Commella)

somewhere where we can check out the squads?

MOst teams keep there squads close to their chest in the lead up to the carnival. You will get some leaks of names like elite players playing who have no intention of suiting up thrown around. We Warma always put in our AFL players hoping they will play, both Andrew Walker (Carlton)and Sam Sheldon(Brisbane) played for us before making it into the AFL but haven't played since. But this year because it's in Melbourne they both said they will be available to play, but.

sometimes you just have to wait and see who runs out, with what team.

We have a website with some of our squads over the years at:

www.freewebs.com/warmasportsclub

The 2008 teamlist will go up over the next few weeks.

The stars are having a $5000 draw on 26th Sept the day before the AFL Grand Final, at AAL, if interested, cost is $50 a ticket includes first 2hrs free beer and wine plus food, spirits are available but at bar prices, hope to have a good night, tickets should be available at the door starts 6pm.

Is it me or are people more interested in fielding a Div 2 side these days??
According to this it looks like lake conda and the stars are the only two communities putting up 2 sides. Surely there's more blackfellas out there willing to fly the flag for thier comunities?? I mean don't get me wrong, i think it's a great event and i love going and it serves it's purpose once a year, and there are many families that use this weekend as their yearly get together, and a good chance to catch up with all their cousins.
But what i don't like about the carnival is that you can't brag any more about being the best (even for a year), because you don't play the best. You've got blokes who want to play division 2 instead coz they want it easy. I mean it definately happen last year and i reckon it'll happen this year.
Warma's probably got the best example of how to do it, fielding all able and local boys, and if they win it they'll deserve it and will probably back it up next year. But they've put a bit of effort into it and should get to play against the best teams from each comunity so that there's no doubt who the best is (even if it's only for a year).

But what do you's think. I know i play just for a laugh, but i reckon the comp will get canned if it's turns into just a weekend to get pissed. . . .

Feedback??

I think there are alot of factors as to why there are only six teams in Div 1
and 14 in the div 2 section.

I feel the location has alot to do with it theres only ever no more than 4 metro sides in the carnival with th majority of teams coming from the country areas of Victoria. One can only imagine how much its costing Commella this year. The price of pertol, accommadation in Melbourne and food to feed one team is hugh let alone two sides. Remember no community organisation is funded at all to send community teams to the carnivals, so either the players pay up or the ors/community come up with ways to send a community team.

We only sent two teams last year cause it was in Shepparton and we never had to pay for accommadation just travel and food.

Sponsorship from the broader community is just non exsistant you might get a couple of dollars but not the 5 or 6 grand needed to cover everyhing.

Also Div 1 is the showcase of the carnival or at least should be three or four teams in the last 3 or 4 carnvials have dominated with the Stars totally dominating teams feel travelling all the way to Melbourne want a realistic chance of winning something. Looking at it, it would not surprise me if the finals will again be The Fitzroy Stars, Warma Turtles, West Vic Eels and Cummeragunja Swans.
But good luck to everyone and go the Turtles

BIG NEWS BOYS,
i heard today THE Buddy Franklin is said to want to play in the carnival if Hawthorn is back from thier footy trip. His uncle from WA played last year in shep and is playing again this year, and his womans' sisters' nephew reckon Buddy's keen as. . . . . .He's a fair catch, but i don't think he'd make the cut in our team!!!!!

Heard that one too Boora, cause Sam Sheldon said he is playing for Warma and Chris Johnson told the Brisbane Lions it would be worth letting him play in the Carnival. Now we are just waiting on Carlton to let Andrew Walker now if he can play as well.

I will be stunned if someone knocks us off this year, with it being in Melbourne and all. I'm tipping a Fitzroy Stars / West Vic Eels final this year, the 2 teams have had some rivalries over past carnivals in which they have competed...Im tipping the Stars and Young Guns to take out both divisions, but im biased.

Would be huge to have him play in the carnival, but i wouldnt think so...Dont AFL players need clearances from thier clubs?, And im pretty sure there wouldnt be much chance of Hawthorn clearing the best up and coming player in the AFL.

I thought the same about Warma's jumper last year. I would have thought West Coast taught us all a lesson not to try and flow colours with the away jumper they wore from 2000 to 2002.

Fitzroy Stars have gone back to the mid 1980's jumper the first ever Stars jumper that incorporated the Aboriginal Colours in it, and it has been indicated that this will be the permanent design for all of our A Grade carnival jumpers.

Young Guns jumper has been modified to include the Southen Cross which we used on our jumpers in the NFL.

That's an impressive record. . . . . . . but it's all the more reason to knock you boys off, especially in your home town. If your so confident, are you willing to give away your team list??

You can correct me if Im wrong but I thought Rumbalara beat Commella at Swan Hill in 1993. Cause we Warma were done by Worawa with the last kick of game by 1 point after Justin Murphy snagged one after the siren and then lost by 7 points to Rumbalara in game two who Im sure went on and won it.
