Travel Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore

I'm spending five days in KL in April.

I've been twice before and am going to have two free days to kill time.

Have done the touristy stuff, shopping, etc before. Looking for something different.

Anybody have any ideas?
 
I've been to Vietnam twice, Cambodia three times now and just did three weeks in Malaysia in November.

Liked Malaysia so much that we are already planning to go back again in august 2019 for a few weeks longer.

Happy to answer questions on all three destinations (assuming I can actually provide and answer :drunk:).

Probably posted in this thread a little too late.

Just finished up Luang Prabang (Laos), Hanoi and Ha Long Bay. Off to Hoi An and Siem Reap over the next little period so any recommendations for those places would be great.

Re Hoi An
I got the trots after lining up for the Bánh mì Bourdaine recommended ,just look for a million Americans lined up.
Its a pretty place but all the tourists already know.
Market was nice the lack of scooters at night was good, lights were good.
Just walk around,I stayed real close to the old part,so it was real convenient
 
I've got a cousin heading to Singapore. Even though I've lived there for quite a while, I'm having trouble giving him suggestions on what to do that isn't too 'touristy' 😂

Do ya'll have any suggestions to help out??
 
Isnt there just the botanical garden, the zoo, the big pool on the roof and the old Indian quarter and food ?

We honeymooned in Vietnam in 2006 and spent a week in Hanoi. We stayed in the Old Town and were only about 200 metres from Beer Hoi Junction. Loved it, sitting on some plastic chair drinking 10cent beers, probably gone up by now. Great food, very friendly people, and enjoyed the freedom of walking around not being pestered like we did down south.

Have always used atms over there as i cant be facked dealing with money changers. I dont think they have ANZ atms over there but the local atms have Cirrus and Plus sharing arrangements. I usually get bulk money out to minimise transaction fees.
 
Citi Bank debit card worked there no charge good rate Lots of Banks around big ones on the edge of the Lake

You will typically get a better exchange rate in the country with the weaker currency. So you'll get more Dong exchanging AUD in Vietnam, than you will in Oz.

Best cheap day tours/fun stuff to do? Like see the Mekong Delta/War Museum and general activity. Have found if you use Western Operators they rip you off blind (Bali travellers beware) but locals are happy to take you round at a reasonable rate.

Training it.. LOL! No one trains it here mate. Partly because some places don't have them, partly because those that do aren't great, and mostly because plane travel around these parts is so cheap now.

Silk ain't a budget carrier. Yes they are owned by Singapore airlines, however Silk are a full service carrier, but do the shorter routes in Asia, while Singapore does more of the longer haul flights.

Singapore airlines budget carriers are Tiger Air and Scoot.

Travel schedule changed, 2017 became a write off, 2018 became a US trip, 2019 visited South Korea and 2020 am hoping for more of Europe.

This trip is on the next list of Asian countries along with a trip of Honk Kong/ Macau, so will have to decide between the two :D
