But harsh on Lisle just yet IMO. He's got skills, but seems to be lacking a bit of confidence. He looked overjoyed, and relieved, when he nabbed his goal though. Hopefully he'll find his feet soon.

I also saw him have the opportunity to catch the ball on the full earlier in the game, but instead he stood there for a second or two waiting for it to bounce!!! Clearly a bit tentative at this stage.

Tentative is the right word.

I think Lisle is going to be alright but he needs to get some mongrel into his game. He's a big unit and needs to use his size better.

He really works his way into games though. Obviously got an OK engine for a big bloke.

I've tried to limit my Lester love on this board in recent times but it is no secret that I am a big fan. I think he's the real deal. I have him as our next big bodied mid but I could easily see him playing 200 games down back or up forward.

I can't wait to see him when he's really hit the weights. He's going to be a massive unit and yet, athletically, he's almost as good as a classic 6 footer.

Still see him down back as a Bassett type. His bodywork is very good for a 2nd-year player.

Edit: speaking of which, just remembered Bassett is leaving Norwood at the end of the year.

I reckon that a player's height is fairly proportional to how long it takes for them to be ready for the top level, with the ruckmen being the tallest and longest. So I think Lester, being a medium tall is well ahead of schedule (it's easy to forget he's still a teenager), and in theory there should be plenty of improvement still to come. The improvement will probably not be so much in terms of being dynamic, but doing more and more of the grunt work.

Love Bewick FWD, he's an impact player and can do damage with few touches. Polks doesn't get to enough contests and when he does he doesn't impose himself. Noticeably absent since the 60 m torp vs the Eagles.

Give him a week in the Ressies real world. Crisp is a gamer too but a rest wouldn't hurt. Give Docherty and/or Bartlett a run before the end of season. We keep saying we're blooding kids, give the last couple a go, and OK one more for Buchanan. Let him pile in vs the Doggies in R 23 in front of a home crowd.

Merrett makes our backs look more unified even with Goose out, if Lisle does nothing else but keep Sauce back then he does a job, but Lisle moves an looks like a genuine fwd, once he realises he can knock blokes down he will be all the better. Patfull needs a lot more cred than he gets, busts his a*se every week and is rarely beaten. Harwood is coming along, Hanley is hot and cold but getting more consistent, Adcock getting back to his best and if we can buy Drummo some new joints we have a backline that can match it with anyone.

Love Huddo's passion, but we must face facts, vs good athletic ruckmen he looks a little lost around the ground. Bullies the kids and holds his own vs robots like Jacobs, but we need Leuey and Longer to help out when things heat up.

Yeo made a couple mistakes last night but both times mucked straight back in and fixed them, love his poise and quick decisions. Beams is a workhorse, Lester ditto and if we can get a ranga kicking coach Green/Bewick/Merrett will be all the more effective.

The mids are young but coming fast (if Redden isn't an A grader already then we don't have one), I just wish we could engineer more chances for Rich to wheel onto the left peg and drive it 65.

This list is deeper than we've been for a long while, only Stiller and Buchanan and maybe Hawksley don't seem capable. Everyone else is too young or too green, but time is ahead of them. Wouldn't hurt if Jessie O'Brien or Sam Sheldon stepped up big.

Loving the season, loving the future more.

We were well on top in the 2nd quarter and after we had come back to within a couple of goals the game became more of an arm wrestle from there on. Our mental fortitude is not exactly a strength of ours at the moment, so it was pleasing to see us fight it out.

Mentioned to Bob post-match - Huddo's post goal celebration was good, but how awesome was the shot of the coaches box post-Lisle's goal?

I absolutely lost it when it came up on the big screen. Definitely Gif worthy.

To be honest, I don't think Lisle will ever be a mongrel player. Sure he can work on his body work & core strength but just talking to him he's quite laconic & a pretty quiet guy (also mentioned he doesn't think he has the body type for rucking), I don't think he'll be the wrecking ball like Merrett (and it's not a knock on him), I think he'd focus more on winning the ball with outright skill, per se, rather than going to crash & bash resulting in the ball going his way.

My gut feeling is that we aren't tanking.

Yeah, currently watching the first quarter as well, to make the next 3 quarters more enjoyable. I was thinking that in hindsight, Patfull to Danger was a clever move on paper. He is a bigger body, but also versatile. Shame he couldn't stay on him after Maguire went down and he was forced to move back. It worked out for the best though, obviously.

Yeh that is one of the adavantage of Sauce in defence it frees Pattfull up for those type roles, those bigger bodied midfeilders who can go foward and kick goals LIke dangerfield and swann, Who have caused us problems this year. Great matchup BLOODY goose had to go change the plans

Dont know much of LILSE s backgroud at the hawks BUT did he ever spend any time in the ruck down there ???

J green as good as he was last night there were a few times over the last 2 weeks where he had free players in the attacking 50 and just blazed away. He has really come on this year, and his goal nouse is going to be really important in comming years.

OK....the obvious qusetion how come we can beat the crows and WCE (once at least ) yet look so pathetic V the tigers, and WCE in perth. Is it a attitude thing ????? IM still scratching my head.

In a game of football there are a multitue of variables (one of them being attitude). Variation is to be expected.

I was going to post something similar that whilst Green led (equally) our entries into the 50m that he also burnt a few chances with low percentage shots at goal, however I think that he is a natural footballer and that the game will slow down for him when he works out how much time he actually has.

Watching the replay there were a couple of times that we scored goals which we could have made life easier on ourlseves (both of these examples involve Lisle and I didn't really want to single him out). When Green hit brownie up (or missed the goals completely) for his goal around the corner had Green and Lisle worked in tandem and Lisle been able to shepherd the Crows player Green would have plenty of time to kick an easy goal.

When Lisle went for goal if had hand balled to Crisp running by he could have kicked the goal from the goal mouth.

Easy to nitpick when re-watching the tape, great to see the team fight out a great result from a finals bound team, best win of the season.

Tom Hawkins is nearly exactly two years older than Jordan. Takes guys like this lot longer to get to the point where they understand their physical attributes and how to best use them IMO.

He was a good get for us:thumbsu:

With regards to the last five minutes, that was pretty nerve racking, and Paul Roos wasn't helping (although he did have a point). Personally I don't have a problem with players using the corridor in the last five minutes, but it probably should only be if there is a relatively simple spot up. Otherwise I would advocate playing a bit safer, ie. avoiding dangerous areas of the ground. When that happens it is harder for both teams to score, but that shouldn't be confused with going defensive, as you are still trying to score just as they are.

Probably when contested footy isn't a strength of the team you might be less inclined to use that strategy, but as they improve in that area they will feel more comfortable in reverting to a brand of football that increases the number of stoppages. The Swans were always very good at stoppages, so he may have underestimated the difference in circumstances for the Lions.

Everything we did in the last 5 minutes was disgusting according to Roos.

He speaks fairly candidly about what he thinks is good and bad. He's got runs on the board so that's fair enough imo.

The day after wins like this are always brilliant. Waking up with birds chirping, the final siren occasionally running through your mind. It takes the day to a new level. Kind of like that awful scene in Spiderman 3 with Toby Maguire walking down the street.

It's been said, but that win really is substance to get us through the off season.

I must admit I was starting to question whether we had actually made any significant progress from last year. It's amazing how one game can completely change the complexion of the whole season.
