After having read a lot of everyones reviews I'll add my 5 cents worth.
A) McIntosh was not great but the Essendon's delivery to Lloyd was superb. Most were smack on the chest. Milli's run-down at the 15 minute mark as Lloyd was streaming into goal was superb and could have been the game-breaker had WCE kicked a few more.
B) The midfield was brilliant in patches but disposal became shoddy everytime Essendon turned up the heat with hard tackling. Essendon would have won more ball in the clinches through the bigger bodies of Rioli (instrumental early) and the Johnson boys.
C) Haynes still presents at FF. He was finding as equal space as Lloyd was on the lead except the delivery was going over his head more often than not. That slips catch in the 3rd quarter would have made Mark Waugh proud. Yes, he did spill that mark in the dying minutes but it was no where near as bad as the opportunities the team wasted as a whole at the start of the 3rd quarter. Still to keep Wilson out of the side.
D) Although Embley looks like he is becoming one of our more capable players this year, I am getting the feeling his game is 99% about attack. As a wingman on a bad day you would hope the worst result is a breakeven, today McPhee kicked 4 in his best game for the Bombers. It probably presented a 2 goal swing in Essendons favor.
E) Trent Carroll, what can I say. I have never been a fan. He is the equivalent of a Dean Wallis type, does 1 good thing for every 5 bad, is slow in thinking, gets run down too often. At least Dean Wallis would belt someone now and then to justify his spot. Carroll is the sort of try-hard hard-man who'll give away frees every week without actually making them earn it. I don't understand what the likes of Glass and Lynch have done wrong to be missing a game in favor of this dunce.
F) I'd rate the umpiring a B-, from my spot there were several missed decisions both ways. It had no factor on the outcome.
G) Did anyone else notice the parallels between this game and the Collingwood game 2 weeks ago. Team A gets off to a flyer only to be caught and overtaken by Team B who get the lead and waste shots on goal leaving the door open for Team A to find their early form and come home the stronger.
