Sounds like hate speech to me? Let all those who wanted to keep the Swedish pastor in jail now take up the fight to arrest this man.His incitement to riot and kill legal representatives of our judicial system should be investigated.

Once again it shows the hypocrisy of people when an Aborigine is involved versus a member of a religion.
The police commissinor has already suggested that Mr Yanner probably has broken the law and wants to take it Further, whether his political masters get involved is another thing. I don't think comparing the evangelical moron to this moron is fair.

Ridgeway's view

Democrats Aboriginal senator Aden Ridgeway said Mr Yanner's comments indicated Aborigines had "no confidence in white man's law to be able to deliver justice".

He said the 18 Palm Island residents charged with rioting should face traditional justice.

"I don't excuse any comments that are made to incite violence but I can understand where they come from," Senator Ridgeway said.

"We ought not to look at Palm Island in isolation but as part of a growing tension in Aboriginal people across the country."

A typical QLD Police view, helping to calm down and resolve the issue

Queensland Police Union acting president Denis Fitpatrick said Mr Yanner was "a mere criminal in search of a meaningful existence".

Can anyone please tell me why we call them Koori's instead of aboriginals?
Is it now offensive to call them Aboriginals?

I agree. And a Qld Aborigine is a Murri, not a Koori.
No actually a Queensland aboriginal is an aboriginal

Tribal names dont differentiate between race.

I am not a Perthite I am a caucasian from Perth . I will answer to anglo-saxon but its a bit long winded

See how stupid it is ..they are labels

I think they prefer being called Koori's and in QLD alot do call themselves Murri's (although as stated this has a tribe connection).

Aboriginal is

describes a person or living thing that has existed in a country or continent since the earliest time known to people:
aboriginal forests
aboriginal inhabitants
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=187&dict=CALD

It is a label which we put on the Koori's and is not unique to them, it can be used on any group of indigineous inhabitants. Koori's is a name that gives them a unique name as a group.

Koori is the word to describe Victorian Aborginals. Murri as stated is for Qld and WA aboriginals have a seperate name as well (which escapes me ATM)

In WA pretty sure it is "Noongah".
As far as I know, Nyoongars come from the southern are of WA, around perth and down to albany, those further north, past Geraldton and particularly up towards Broome are Yamatjis. Daniel Wells is a nyoongar, Ashley Sampi is a yamatji.

Its been a while since I've read about this stuff, but iirc, Nyoongar is actually just the word in most south western aboriginal dialects for 'person'- its now used to describe anyone from that region regardless of which particular south western tribe they were from.
