Sometimes you still see Bruce in the Eltham supermarket (when its quiet of course) - has lost none of his knick and is probably at his athletic playing weight :thumbsu: Thanks Aph

Having not been to Princes Park since I was a kid, I really appreciate these photos. The old seats, the back stairs, the race. Really takes me back to the old suburban grounds I remember when I was first in awe of the game.

The "These steps must be kept clear - Board of Health" sign, was purely designed so the nasty guy in the hat who used to guard the steps on the old Heatley Stand - could point to it and say you can't stand on those steps. Circa 1972.

Unfortunately, I havent been back to Princes Park since I was a little boy. My mum wasnt interested in taking me to the ground and my grandparents who I grew up with were Essendon and Collingwood supporters and there was no way they would take me to a Carlton match... even against their teams.

It's saying something when the grandparents wont even take a grandchild to the home ground of their clubs biggest rivals even though it would make the kids life :)

Trust me Dram, there would have been plenty of grannies that would not take kids to Carlton. Some would not tram to get there, some would not rock up to the MCG much less our grounds minimal non-reserved capacity and for some football crowds equated to visiting a potentially violent protest.

My grandmother took me down there once in an effort to meet Brassarse... but I think that we got there on the wrong day or something and we couldnt see anyone.

It could have been some plan by my nan to deny me from meeting my hero (of the day)... what with her being a Collingwood supporter :p

Alice’s images from the outer

“I wanted to document a slice of football history. Carlton’s is an old ground, and now that games are no longer played there it’s important that it is remembered,” she says

On invitation from the club’s Social Media Co-ordinator Luca Gonano, Alice and a handful of fellow Carlton bloggers paid Visy Park a visit during the recent finals campaign. Alice later returned armed with her trusty Canon 5D Mark II and photographed what she saw.

Very funny Dram, if Gran really didn't want you to meet him I am thinking she would have taken you grocery shopping or such - sounds like a top Gran ;)
