Hi folks

We are looking for some people to write brief profiles of the players selected for the FFC Team of the Century.

We could have done it ourselves, but it would be very clinical, and with my limited FFC knowledge, more than likely not very flattering to the selected players.

So I thought, and after consultation with Olmy, that some of you may be able to help out in that area. Only a paraghraph or 2 is needed, or more if you feel like it, and I am looking for a couple by the end of the week.

Any takers??

Please???

email me to get any more info required!

Thanks

Danni

No one intersted??

If not that is fine, however the amount of knowledge and emotion shown by the contributers to this board is what lead me to ask in the first place.

So if you would like to contribute, please let me know.

I don't think it's that people aren't interested, perhaps it's just a case of being prompted in the right direction.

Just a few questions first (they are all friendly!).

1. Who is "we", when you say "we are looking for people to write brief profiles for the players selected for the FFC Team of the Century"?

2. What are the profiles being used for? Where will they be displayed? On BigFooty, perhaps?

3. Which players are we doing the profiles for? The ones who are selected in the final side, or all of the nominees? (If it's just the final side, we'll need to wait until it is announced!).

4. Will anyone be able to give profiles for players from years previous to the 1970's?

5. How long do the profiles have to be?

6. Are the profiles to be from a personal perspective (ie: "Garry Wilson was my favourite player because . . . ), or more of a statistical representation of their career? (With that, you could also ask, are these profiles to be an objective or subjective relfection on their careers?).

I think people will be more than happy to put in their 2-cents worth (if they have the time), but perhaps it's best that a player is nominated, and then people can submit their profiles/recollections of that particular player.

It might be hard to get people to do profiles for the players going back, further than the 70's, I feel.

Good luck, anyway.

Good questions Eric - maybe I should have just put that info here instead of suggesting people email me with any questions about it all.

Well here is the speil, and it is almost unadulterated advertising, but without some input from Fitzroy members the site isn't going to achieve what it has the potential to do.

A new Brisbane Lions site, currently located at wwww.brisbanelions.rivals.net (while under construction) is being produced.

An 'un-official' site, that is essentially'by the people for the people'.

The official Lions site has been promising for 18 months to update their history section to include the history of both 'parent' teams, but haven't yet delivered. So we are doing our own version.

One of the milestones this year is going to be the 'Team of the Century' and something definately deserving web space.

So to answer your questions:

1) read the above

2) They are going to be displayed as feature articles on the site, and other interviews/articles with those nominees that consent to contributing their time.

3) The nominees, with the profiles then being re-used for a 'special' about the actual selection, plus any additional comments provided by others.

4) I'm not sure if anyone can give profiles pre-70's. However I think there is enough of a 'generational' following of Fitzroy to allow people to add their personal (even if handed down) perspectives on the players.

5) Profiles can be anything from 2 paragraphs to a whole page - that is up to the author.

6) Profiles are not going to be categorised by personal or statistical. Even a statistical profile can be personally quantified by a comparison to a 'great' of the era that you remember. Personal, Statistical, or a combination is acceptable.

It is all about the information coming from the people, not an official blurb.

Thanks for that Danni. The idea sounds good. I hope it gets up and running.

You might find, that people are willing to add profiles/recollections of players to this site, from which you can use for this other site, which you are setting up.

It'd be a good way to go, as I think once someone gets started on a player, others will then too, become involved in the discussion.

I'll think about starting one on a recent player, from that list in the next few days, and posting it on here. Feel free to use the information from it!

Olmy, I think, also started a topic way back at the beginning, about Scott Clayton, as well as one about full-backs. Perhaps some of the posts in those topics might be useful.

You might also consider, using info from those topics on the Junction Oval. There are a lot of good memories in there, for all Fitzroy supporters.

It's worth having it on any site, that's giving a mention to the Roys.

Good luck!

Sorry Danni, but I have, in all honesty, spent most of my barracking time just making comic comment, and have never actually learnt enough about players to be able to do a two-liner on them.

I'm not the right person to ask, but some folk on this board should be able to help you.

Mobbenfuhrer....

from keeping track of many of your posts one might deduce that you were not really in a fit state to comment on any of the players by about half time....yet alone several years after the event !!!!

ptw

I've been on the wagon just over four weeks now, went and saw an ammos praccy match on the weekend just gone.

One question, what's that game that was playing out on the oval field? Is that what its meant to be about?

I used to think it was some sort of fog art.
