News Voss given 2 year contract

The response on the Courier Mail's website really captures Brisbane's perspective on AFL. All clueless, bandwagon, glory-hunting idiots who seem to have no football knowledge whatsoever. I'm happy with Vossy's re-signing two fold; not just because I think he's proven after a tough year that he is the right man to take this young and talented list forward, but it will weed out the pathetic 'supporters' that tear up their membership every year we don't win a premiership. Good riddance.

Exactly. Although given they're anonymous comments on a website, it makes me wonder just how many actually are members and how many are just claiming to be to troll.

I am not 100% convinced that Voss is the right man for the job. I'm certainly not vigorously celebrating his re-signing. I am happy though that we have a way forward and I am glad that the Board has invested some faith in Vossy. That makes me feel good about the club, as opposed to feeling good about Voss as the perfect fit as our coach.

I see the good signs but we've had two very disappointing years which, at the end of the day, can be hard to reconcile with a contract extension for the coach. Very cautious optimism is how I'd describe how I feel.

As opposed to the bitter, vitriolic response of some. That, I don't get. Even if you have reservations about him - it is Voss FFS. He's one of our greats and he doesn't deserve the spew of invective that we're seeing today. You can register your objections without denigrating one of our greats. But I suspect I'm preaching to the choir here.

TDB, I'm just waiting for CJ to hammer the last nail in Clark's coffin by declaring that he's a cert to stay a lion.

Let me consult with Naitawhoey and UpTheGuts first.

As ridiculous as it sounds, given he's been there for 3 years now, I feel like I need another year to get a decent read on Voss as a coach. I do suspect next year will be telling though.

Great to see all these negative tools not renewing their memberships.:thumbsu:

Have fun with the Suns you clowns!! Someone better warn McKenna of the influx!!

Great outcome. With a full list, continued development of players and a bit of luck, Voss will prove all the doubters wrong in 2012 / 2013.

Absolutely, which is why I am not super-excited about the re-signing. If we knew he was a good/great coach, it would be brilliant. As it stands, he looks like he's learnt from his mistakes and has done some good work on the development side of things. But we still don't know if he's the complete package. Time will tell, I guess.

I am now of a befief that signing Vossy for a further 2 years is the right decision. I think the way the team has toughed it out over the last few months has been a credit to the players and the coaching staff. There was a recent article about blow outs this year with many teams mentioned along with the likes of GC and Port, we were not amoung them. We have also worked hard and improved in the areas where we were smashed at the start of the year, ie clearance work. Two years is about right, can he come up with a game plan to win a Flag....we will see.

I might be reading too much into it but judging by the length of the contract extension it seems that the club is taking a similar 'wait and see' approach.

Haha yep and watch them all come crawling back in 2-3 years time when we make the 8 denying they had any doubts in the first place.

All the best to Vossy. I must admit after the QClash1 I had my doubts but he has hardly put a foot wrong since then and I love where the club is heading so he definitely has my vote of confidence.

Agreed, he has proven he is a good coach for developing the players but he may not be the coach to really drive the team back up the ladder. Would be interesting to know what the pass mark in his final year would be considering we will most likely still be rebuilding with Black and Brown retired.

Good Question, and what is a pass mark for next year?

From this year I wanted
- no wooden spoon (check)
- 5 wins (unlikely)
- develop youngsters (check)

I would give the club a d+ for this year. It is a pass but it is not great.

Next year I want
- Develop players (at least 5 of this years debutants to pass the 20 game mark, A rising star nomination)
- 7 wins
- at least 2 wins against teams that end up playing finals.

With the current signs of improvement and hopefully a fit list, I am hoping for a finish of around 9th next season. Might be optimistic, but definately doable. I think we're capable of being at the level North or Richmond are at this year...

I'll reconsider after the off-season and draw, but at this stage I'd want to:

1) win 2/3 of our games against non-finals teams (this year that would have been 8 wins - geeze we had an easy draw)
2) see considerable development from most of our kids.
3) snag a win or two against finals-bound teams as a bonus.

7 wins would be a failure. IMHO

I considered that carefully. 7 wins was how many we had in 2010, and it felt like failure then. Also next year there will be GC, GWS and Port all of whom should be wins, so yeah maybe 7 is too few, but we are still a young team. We have three maybe 4 players next year who will pass the 50 games target and a whole heap who are on less than twenty.

Winning 7 will do me next year, on the basis we win 10 or 11 and make the eight the following year.

I’m not asking for much more than the continuation of development in the meat and three veg of coaching shown in the later part of this year.
  • players that think better
  • Anticipation of the next play
  • Quicker decision making, and the meat...
  • being the skills to carry out all of the above.
If this was to be reflected in a finals win or two in 2012 I'd be over the moon! But as with the contract within the 2 years would suffice... :)
