Great outcome. With a full list, continued development of players and a bit of luck, Voss will prove all the doubters wrong in 2012 / 2013.

Absolutely rapt!..:thumbsu:

We just need a season without major injuries for a start!....that will make a huge difference!

That has been the biggest killer of all, these last 2 seasons IMO..

Onya Vossy, we are right behind you!

Onwards and upwards in the jungle for the Mightiest of the Lions!!

I'm fairly and squarely in the POBT camp on this one. The signs are promising, but that lingering doubt, um, lingers.

I am in this camp too...the development of the young players and the effort of most of the team this year is a significant plus.

After 3 years and some lessons learned the hard way no doubt game day management should keep improving and if it does it will be a future plus.

I don't think too high a pass mark should be mandated in 2012... like him or hate him,Clark is loaded with talent and will leave a gap...how the performance inside the forward 50 and with the tall defenders (plus the usual tale of the injuries) works out will largely determine the outcome but of course this will be part of the assessment of success.

I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Agree that we need another year for an assessment- the first two years were spent going for glory (which I supported), so we've only really had one year in 'rebuilding' phase, so too early to judge the outcome.

When it was announced a few weeks ago there was also indications that performance clauses would be included, so that if things went balls up Port style next year we've an out without having to pay out the remaining year on a contract. I think that'd be a reasonable inclusion if true.

I am happy with the signing, I think it gives us the best opportunity to grow over the next 2 years.

You have to have doubts, I think we all do. But I think what he has done since the Gold Coast loss makes him well deserved of a contract.

The big thing for me is we will see if he has learn t from his mistakes over the next 2 years:

If yes, a two year contract was a smart move, and lets give him another one.

If no, a two year contract was the right move at the time, but lets get someone else in to have a go.

WE MUST PLAY FINALS IN 2013 FOR VOSS TO COACH IN 2014.

Unless my eyes deceived me, the players were having a crack all year for Voss.Changing the coach would achieve little IMO,in fact I think it could be risky at this delicate stage of rebuild.
Agree with this. I've said in January that the players seem to be firmly behind Voss and want to play for him. For me this has been the key to the development of the youngsters and the club going forward.
So mark me down as being happy to see Voss remain.
Let the losers go to the Suns ...they belong together.:D

Even though Voss has had 3 years in charge, I only take this year into account. The club said they were happy for him to learn on the job, and that's great, but they then proceeded to not lift a finger in any way to help or teach him to get him up to speed. It is not coincidence that after the club review Voss has looked much better as coach this year. I'm happy to give him another 2 years to see what he can actually do.

well it's got to vossy he has made his bed and must sleep in it !! the players to me for the second half of the season looked like they wanted to play for him , so in that case there's not much more we could hope for in a bad year for wins

Re: Voss 2 year contract to be announced tomorow

Took me time to come around, but those are my sentiments too...the club needs stability and while the W/L column may be the worst its ever been in the club's merged history, I think overall our performances don't necessarily reflect that and there is a great deal to look forward to and Voss is the man to do so.:thumbsu:

sums my views up

Re: Voss 2 year contract to be announced tomorow

I'm with Voss, he has served his apprenticeship, now lets see what he can do! No doubt the players are playing for him, most of them have re - signed, we are having a crack and pushing teams despite not winning. If Clark goes so be it, draft and draft well with the picks we receive for him. Its about 2013/14-15 and beyond now.

I dont but into the fact of players playing for the coach, yes it can get you a couple of wins, for me i want to see players playing to a game plan and responding to it and none more evident than what happend against the pies, playing on and running through the middle of the ground at all costs opened the pies up our skill level let us down but we are a young club and it will happen, Vossy im sure will be the first to say our recruiting was bad but no doubt in my mind Stakes rainsey and maguire have either done there job or exceded what i thought they could contribute to the club and have upside to there game, for me im judging vossy on this year and apart from wins on the board i could not be happier with his resigning, no doubt the best of Vossy as coach lays ahead of us, the other thing i would like to add is that when leathel resigned the old admin appointed Vossy within two to three days of him leaving (please correct me if im wrong) and maybe did not do there due dilligence but angus and the board can not be blamed of this in this instance, GREAT WORK GUYS GO VOSSY AND CARN THE LIONS

I am not 100% convinced that Voss is the right man for the job. I'm certainly not vigorously celebrating his re-signing. I am happy though that we have a way forward and I am glad that the Board has invested some faith in Vossy. That makes me feel good about the club, as opposed to feeling good about Voss as the perfect fit as our coach.

I see the good signs but we've had two very disappointing years which, at the end of the day, can be hard to reconcile with a contract extension for the coach. Very cautious optimism is how I'd describe how I feel.

As opposed to the bitter, vitriolic response of some. That, I don't get. Even if you have reservations about him - it is Voss FFS. He's one of our greats and he doesn't deserve the spew of invective that we're seeing today. You can register your objections without denigrating one of our greats. But I suspect I'm preaching to the choir here.

Yeah I pretty much agree with all of this.

I have some doubts about him as coach as I still think he makes some mistakes at times, but the signs of the team's development have been very promising in the second half of this year.

Of course I want him to succeed, I want the Club to succeed, another two seasons should clearly show us whether we are on the right path or not.

+1.

The doubts have been there but I also have been happy how some individuals have stepped up to the plate. The riding into town with both six guns shooting style has been thrashed out him over the last 2 years. I'm actually really looking forward to seeing how he goes. He done his three years made his mistakes now it time to see if he can put it all together.

I'll be giving him a clean slate (maybe unfairly as if it was somebody else I probably wouldn't) and try not to be judgmental until the end of next year.

I don't get the death riding, just as I don't understand the blind optimism. He seems to have the players which is a big part of the battle. I'm still unsure whether that can translate to wins, like a few others on here.

Was very disappointed to hear of the contract extension, though it wasn't surprising.

Voss is one of the worst game day coaches going around. He's slow to react to opposition coach changes, and has a 'stick to the game plan' mentality which causes us to become predictable.

Oh well, Ce La Vie.

Im very disappointed to...great player..terrible coach!!

with all the back slappers here Im sure this sort of talk gets shot down..but its my opinion

will gladly be wrong and hope he does well...somehow i just cant see it...will be waiting for more excuses over the next two years

I tend to think this is a one of Voss's best qualities. When your rebuilding a side you want to teach them a game plan and show them it can work so they develop belief in it. Constantly changing the plan mid-game or week to week will only stifle team development.
Once we are in a position to challenge for the top 4, thats the time when a good game day coach is important. Hopefully Voss has what it takes when the time comes.

Agreed. We were never getting regularly belted by teams and in the last few games, especially the GC and Collingwood game. Our game plan looked like it was working then. The only criticism I have of Voss' game day coaching for this year was when Merrett was left up forward for far too long in our first game against the suns.

Love this sort of post. Condescend those who hold a different view (*) and then pre-emptively play the victim card (**) in case they have the temerity to challenge the aforementioned condescension.

I do agree with this, he did leave it go for too long. However, in saying that, our midfield was horrible that game, and there shouldn't have been the need to move him back into defence in the first place.

If our mids held their own it would have been a coaching master stroke. I still like that he did try something different in that game.

I love posts like that regardless of the POV held. Unless a mod comes through and deletes the post, how can they argue it gets shot down? Nothing stops anyone making their points, unless it's repeatedly nothing else (hey, 3KZ! ;)).
