Voss Resigns

Half these guys aren’t even playing and some have sustained season-ending injuries.

We’ve got decent value out of the guys we brought across last year + Smith, Dean and Walker on board before Tassie come in.

Our list is middle-of-the-road but there’s enough to work with, and certainly far better than 1-8.

IMO it’s the worst placed list in the competition.

Dean and Smith will be good players, but you desperately need Walker to come in, and have some sort of electric buzz like a Pickett or dare I say it Watson so the place can get some energy, both on the field and in the stands.

At the moment, if I’m a Carlton supporter, there’s no one on the list I’m genuinely excited about going to watch this weekend. And I think the team plays like that.

Hopefully the shackles are off for the rest of the season and there can be something to get excited about.

Well said.

For a bloke that wanted nothing but to win, and was willing to put himself through anything as a player just to get that, it would be so perplexing to see players these days that do not have that all in attitude. That is the art of coaching in today’s era.
Err, no the art of coaching isn’t being an alpha dog and expecting things to fall in place because Voss himself was a relentless competitor.

Voss lacks the ability to make changes during the course of a game - be it considered moves to halt momentum or reacting to opposition coaches swinging positional moves.

As a result opposition sides know that once they have a run they’re going to have endless opportunities to retain the ball and score because our head coach is far too slow and passive to change ANYTHING.

You can watch a game unravelling in slow motion while Voss sits clueless on the bench.

The opportunity to hire a coach that has more than an antiquated plan A.
The need to do something about their development coaching dept, won’t matter who they hire,or how many early draft picks they get until they do something about their dreadful player development they’ll keep getting the same results no matter how many senior coaches or list managers they hired and fire.

Two Weasleys? I know just what to do with you...Gryffindor!

Hmm difficult, very difficult, plenty of courage I see, not a bad mind either. There's talent, oh yes, and a thirst to prove yourself elsewhere. But where to put you? Not tearful vanquished Collingwood hey? But you could be great you know. It's all here in your head. And Collingwood will help you on the way to greatness, there is no doubt about that! Well, if you're not sure, better be...Collingwood!

have always thought the same...
Voss the player would have crawled through glass just to get a home and away victory.
Must have turned him inside out knowing his players never aspire to get near that level.

This is the negotiated fall out of the Holland’s debacle, as a consequence of what Carlton knew before the game and how many times Voss had pushed players out onto the field when they weren’t right.

AFL: “You allowed a player clearly struggling, to try and ‘play through’ a mental health episode in front of millions….We will fine you, and you will negotiate Voss’s exit, but it happens in the next two weeks.”

I've been saying this on our board for years.
And seem to get so called do gooders poo pooing my take on this subject.
We have zero development and I can't figure out why.
We have zero board leadership, for 20 years it's been full of spivs and thier sycophants.

It's been very obvious and there still isn't top end leadership or development.
Shame really, but we've become stkilda/Fitzroy.

This is actually an area we’ve really improved over the past few seasons.

Luke Power was great as a development coach while he was there.

I’m not sure who the current VFL coach is but our reserves are quite cohesive and put in some really strong performances this season.

Proof will be in the pudding as players step up to the next level but I have far more confidence in our development than previous years.

Wow! I thought he’d have to be dragged out of there kicking and screaming - there was no way I thought he’d go if his own volition. Seems he’s finally come to his senses and jumped first rather than be pushed out.

He’s not the only tactical coach in that box.

Clearly Carlton has tactical issues, but they are far behind list, development and work ethic ones.

My point is, he has an issue with players and getting them into a space that enables them to be able to perform and that’s because they are human and all different, not all wired the same as Voss himself. Being able to know what buttons to push with each individual is an art of coaching issue. And one that rests solely with him, not like other coaching group issues.

Well ahead of schedule for the 10 coach sackings in 50 years target.

This isn’t the 60’s.

Head coaches have to have a far broader skillset than just being tough and putting the fear of god into senior players when required.

The best modern coaches are intelligent strategists who can move the magnets and react to a game unfolding.

Plenty of his squad are ‘aspiring to the level’ but are handcuffed by the onfield confusion that has underpinned Vossy’s tenure.

I'm guessing they tried a completely new strategy and game plan last week, and he realised it was infinitely better than what he had put up for the last 3 years. The players even responded better... that tells you everything.
