Wot! you say a raging socialist promoting Hanson (Pauline that is)

My argument is that if you are a one nation voter and are thinking of voting for Johnny think again.

1. Hanson is more honest than Howard. She wants to have a debate on immigration and racism. Howard is only appealing to peoples fears to get re-elected. He will drop it like a hot potato if he wins the election. Where has he been prepared to debate the issue ?

2. Despite all the rhetoric most of those refugees will come to australia eventually anyway, especially those in New Zealand. Afghanistan is now a war zone and all the refugees, not those who qualify cannot be sent bask to afghanistan. NZ, Nautu, PNG wii insist they come here anyway. All he has done is spenet many millions of dollars, delayed a commercial ship at great cost (imagine the howls of protest if the unions caused that) Upset the politics in a few island nations. If you wanted them to be sent back then Pauline's your man

Pessimistic, you have only addressed one portion of One Nation's policies. What about their economic credentials?

This is a party that suggested it would promote economic growth by 'printing more money'. :D

There latest brilliant idea is to abolish ALL taxes and have a simple 1% withdrawal tax on ALL withdrawals made from financial institutions. What a brilliant idea. Not. Let's encourage pensioners to keep their money under the bed so they don't have to pay tax. Let's discourage people from saving as every time they put money in the bank they will lose 1%.

Let's discourage any foreign company from investing in Australia, let's have every major corporation moving all their banking to foreign banks, there fore sending the banks to their knees, taking the Australian economy and the savings of millions of average Australians with it.

Boat people and illegal refugees are just one small portion of many issues that have to be dealt with in the future by the elected government.

I would have thought my preference was clear by now.

I'm just saying that if you want to vote howard based primarily on boat people issue, You should vote for Pauline. At least she has a principled stand on the issue.

I think this touches on my gripe (in another thread) about the lack of choice on offer tomorrow.

I am a predominantly to the Right in politics and usually vote Liberal as a matter of course. This time around, though, I have no real reason to do the same.

I don't care too much about the policies of either side. What I really want to see is some strong leadership, something that will take this nation forward.

I believe that Howard has all the leadership ability of a dead gnat. What is really scary is that this appears more than what Beazley has on offer.

I want someone like Jeff Kennet or Paul Keating to vote for. Someone who you knew where they stood and weren't scared to back in their views, no matter the political repercussions.

None of this on show tomorrow!

God, I think I might be voting Green!

I HATE GREEN!!!

Blue is more my colour!:D

In another thread I hinted that Beasley the PM might be different from Beasley the Opposition leader.

This campaign is probably sickening him and I would think he would like to take a stand on a few issues which have stagnated recently (despite being discussed ad infinitum)

Chilli, you mentioned Paul Keating as a strong leader. I agree but I mentioned elswhere that when Keationg was at war with Hawke , Beasley stubbornly held out and supported Hawke till the very end. Many said this would be political suicide for Beasley and you can imagine the pressure PJK would have brought to bear.

As the age pointed out, Howard set the agaend afor this elecetion (something he is very good at, when it suits him) and backed beasley into a corner. Beasley has to go along on boat people or risk being irrelivant (It was whitlam, I think, who saud the pure were impotent) in the election. He has bravely followed his election plan I think it has paid off and Howards strategy is falling due to the risks ( He survived at the last election, but only just).

Modern labour has It's ideals, but realises it can protect the conditions and rights of working people best by being in power, and Pragmatism is the order of the day.

When it gets down to it, thats why I vote labour, and why I find it hard to understand why working people don't.

And of course I am biased
