The comment on why do teams (and nearly all of them do) tag pearce is simple, if they don't, they pay the price and port usually win due to him carving them up. He is an outside player and told to play that role..take a look at him; he is lightly built, he is quick and has a penetrating kick, so once he gets the ball he is dangerous. Thing is when he does not get the ball he is crucified by his own supporters and others and called a downhill skier. The triers such as Kornes and Casissi are rarely attacked cos the difference between their best and worst is not that noticeable cos they just plug away and are not game breakers. Port just do not play as a team, block, shepherd or talk. They lack good coaches and players to make it to the eight. The score flattered us and you were the far better side.

Interesting comments.
In the games I watch of Port IMO it is a simple equation Rodan, Cassisi, Boak to lesser extent KCornes don't get the ball = Pearce does not get the ball. I understand he is told to be an outside player, and he is a good one. Crucifying him for not getting the ball when he relies on others to get it is a bit much. However IMO what makes a downhill skier is that when the ball is not getting fed to them they don't work their butt off in other areas to get into the game. Pearce, to me doesn't do this. His team aren't getting the ball he appears to let nature take it's course rather than changing the way he plays.
I'll watch with a bit more interest now that you say that, because the other thing I have seen is that teams don't go overly negative on him. They might have someone run with, but they still try to hurt Pearce going the other way because his defensive side is pretty non-existant.
Also as an opposition supporter to Port over the years, I have been more worried about SBurgoyne, Rodan, Boak and now Davenport. Pearce has chipped in now and then but usually when you are having a big win against us. IMO ASelwood would be our best tagger and he got Boak which I think says something about who the Eagles were more concerned with stopping.
