Alright, I'll lead off this week

BOG

5. Stenglein (worked hard in the middle, took some good grabs)
4. Stevens (our best forward)
3. Ricciuto (certainly missed him when he went out of the midfield; was OK up forward)
2. Burton (got plenty of it even if he did waste it; I thought he looked effective when he played one kick behind the play, taking those saving marks)
1. Massie (top first half)

edit: top one changed, still say Johncock was OK in the second half, Bode had one of his better games too

BTM

3. Clarke & 2. Hudson (won the taps at least)
1. Bassett (was good down back in the first half)

Was going to include Begley, but the kick out to a direct opponent ruled him ineligible

Rookie

Meh

Looking at the stats I probably overrated Johncock.

But he was alright in what was a disasterous second half.

Probably should've found a place for Stenglein too.

5. Burton - by the proverbial length of the straight. Worked his arse off down back and up forward. Must have covered more than 15 Kms. He was the example today. Not too many followed.

4. Stenglein - IMO comfortably our 2nd best. One of his best games for some time and was honest, honest, honest. Did well in the clearances.

3. Bassett - the much maligned Hound showed some of his more highly regarded team-mates what a bit of honesty can achieve. Well done Bass.

2. Clarke - dominated the rucks and another who tried his arse off. Not his fault that we did so poorly.

1.Stevens - the one forward who actually looked like he might do something and did.

Massie was stiff not to get a vote after a superb first half but only 2 disposals in the 2nd half meant that he just missed out.

Best Team Man

3. Stenglein - see above.

2. Bassett - as above

1. Massie - our best player in the first half but faded in the 2nd. Fearless effort though.

Rookie

They didn't disappoint me as much as some of the senior players did. In fact I had to toss up between Bock and Jericho, who both did enough in my book to get a vote.

1. Bock - did some useful things in the 2nd half when he went back to his correct spot at HB.

Yeah, I thought Stiffy had his worst game for the year today. You can always edit your votes Dave. ;)

Yeah I was kind of going through our better players and didn't think any of them worthy of 5 votes... particularly with so many dropping off in the second half.

Stuff it, Stenglein for Johncock.

Far too frustrating a game to give this proper consideration.

Best on Ground

5 - Tyson Stenglein - Was one of only a small handful of players that put their body on the line in a game that demanded that. Got a lot of clearences that went to the advantage of the team. One fo the best games he has played in a while.

4 - Mark Ricciuto - He led from the front but why was he taken of the ground so often and for so long?????? Looked alright up forward as well.

3 - Kris Massie - Worked his backside off and put his body on the line. Pitty a few other team mates didn't follow (read McLeod)

2 - Nathan Bassett - Played well and did provide a little biut of run from the backline on occasions.

1 - Scott Stevens - really scraping the bottom of the barrell. He was fantastic in the first quarter. I can't understand how someone can look a millions bucks in one quarter and not be seen in the next 2. I loved his 2 marks in the 1st quarter. What he needs to do is improve his kicking and put on more beef and he could be very handy KPP.

Best Team Man

3 - Tyson Stenglein - See above

2 - Matthew Clarke - Won the ruck easilty Pitty our onballers were not in the front position. They were led to the ball everytime today.

1 - Matthew Bode - At least he tackled and thew his body on the line

Rookie

Pass.

I know everyone's entitled to their opinion.

If you haven't got Burton in your best 5, IMO you can't be serious.

It'll be interesting to compare posters' votes for this match with those of the AFC when they're doing the B&F count at the end of the year.

Would anyone like a wager as to whether he'll be in the club's best 5 for this game at year end??

I would.

Easily our best 2 defenders. Good to see the Hound getting back to his best, as he still has plenty to offer.

These 2 need to lift their performances soon, or risk being dropped!

Player of the year

5. Burton - Despite wasting it on occasions, he gained plenty of the ball and proved to be our best player. Stood out as someone who wanted to give an effort.

4. Stenglein - Not the best of first halves, but his second half was excellent. Stinger was willing to put his body on the line and it paid off, with a number of clearances and contested marks. Good, courageous effort.

3. Riccuito - Not the best game from the skipper, but still kicked 2 goals and was quite potent in the midfield and forward areas.

2. Massie - Once again, played a team game and was courageous and strong throughout the defence. One of his best game's for the year and is beginning to show his potential.

1. S. Stevens - Faded out of the game at times, but 3 goals is a good effort for someone who struggles to kick properly. Is beginning to grow confidence too, so today was a good marker of his ability.

Best Team Man
3. Stenglein - see above.

2. Massie - see above

1. Jericho - Laid some terrific tackles, chased hard and at times put his body on the line. Good effort from Luke.

Rookie of the year
Jericho - In a day full of disappointments, Luke stood out and played his best game so far. Went in around the contest, took some marks and chased and tackled very well. Also kicked a goal, topping off a consistent 4 quarters from the youngster.

Bock also showed something, depite being a little doubtful when under pressure. Played much better down back and spoiled well.

POTY:
5 - Stinga by a mile. The only player that played with desperation all day. Took some great marks, took some heavy knocks, laid some great tackles and was a great team man.
4 - Burton. Im not a big fan cos I think he does some ridiculous things, doesn't really use his brain, and hogs the ball. But I can't knock his effort. He ran around all day and 32 possessions..great.

umm.............getting stuck now!

3 - Clarke
2 - Bassett (just because you all bag him and I think he did OK)
1 - Stevens

BTM
3 - Stinga
2 - Burton
1 - Massie

Rookie
Jezza did OK today I was quite impressed. Hentschel was very average and don't even get me started on Bock Choy.

No votes from me - spent most of the day out and about and what i saw failed to impress. I came home just as BG took his mark in the 1st 1/4 saw the rest of that and the start of 2nd - and even though we were in front I didn't like the way we were playing so wasn't surprised to see the Cats take over and leave us lamenting!

And from the various threads I'd say I wont be going out of my way to find out when fox is having a replay.

Its just a pity that one week in football changes people's attitudes and perceptions so much! And its a pity to see some of our group sniping at each other - considering none of us actually played in the game we cant blame each other for that loss and obvious woeful performance! Finding reasons for a loss like that can only lead to stress and high blood pressure so i'm not going to do that! I cant afford to!

Well, I secretly had one earpiece tuned into the game today and from what I could tell from the 5AA call and then the proceeding the comments on this board, it wasn't pretty. Very, very disappointing but not totally unexpected.

So instead of watching the replay, I'm going to tape over the game with a racy SBS late night movie and an episode of the Turkish version of The Nanny.

5. Stenglein - Tried hard, took some strong contested grabs, tackled well and won a lot of clearances
4. Clarke - Dominated the ruck all day and gave us first use of it
3. Burton - Would have been higher if not for his disposal and getting stitched up by Ling in 2nd quarter
2. Bassett - Worked hard in defence and has recaptured some form
1. Stevens - Only forward option

BTM
3. Stenglein - see above
2. Bassett - see above
1. Massie - Unlucky not to be in best 5 but too quiet in 2nd half

Rookie
Bock probably best of an average lot. Hentschell soundly beaten, Jericho needs to work on his first take of the ball.

5. Stenglein (4 qtr effort, good with the clearances, tackling & in close stuff)
4. Burton(got plenty of the ball, ran hard all day & never stopped trying)
3. Bassett (returned back to form, providing plenty of rebound from defence)
2. Stevens (our only decent forward who could take a mark & kick some goals).
1. Massie (tried his guts out 1st half, but ran out of steam in the 2nd).

BTM
3. Stenglein
2. Bassett
1. Clarke (better with his 2nd efforts, but still room for improvement).

4 - Stevens - our best forward

3 - Bassett - our best defender

2 - Burton - lots of the ball but burnt it a lot but at leats he got it

1 - Massie - tried hard

Stiffy was unlucky to miss out as at leat when the ball was in his area he gave a contest.

Team Man

3 Stenglein
2 Bassett
1 Clarke

No votes. Hentschell was poor and Jericho can go back ot the SANFL I reckon for couple of weeks as I think will struggle against Port

Bock must go as well. Not good enough.
