5. Bartel - as they said in the commentary, he's a complete player. Best mark for a player of his size in the AFL, tackles hard, long kick, and assists so much as third man up, defensive pressure etc.
4. Ottens - was absolutely sensational. Not only did he dominate in the ruck and kick a couple, but played his best 'around the ground' game in the hoops. We're used to seeing him get left behind by the pace of the game, and while he's still slow he was bursting through packs, getting plenty of it at ground level and running hard. Awesome effort.
3. Ling - he's copped plenty of shit around here, but God he was good today. Kerr did nothing, did alright on Judd and got plenty of it himself. His disposal was much better and saw him attempting plenty of sheppards etc. Back to his best.
2. Milburn - drove us off half-back, and was one of the few players who didn't turn it over. Just so consistant.
1. Scarlett. As someone else said, they can keep Rutten and Glass - Scarlo is the best FB in the league, full stop.
Enright and Corey were very unlucky to miss out. If Stokes, Junior and Mooney had shown the good form of the second half throughout the game they would have been up there; same for Mackie in the first. Tenace and Kelly battled on and showed very promising signs. Dog had flashes of brilliance but just did some stupid stuff. Nath was awesome in parts but spilled marks he should have taken. Woja seemed a little bit off. Selwood's youth showed but still battled. DJ and Egan were both 'missing' but kept their men quiet. Varcoe as usual didn't see a lot of it but his defence pressure was excellent, and that crunching tackle on Wirrapunda at the end was amazing. The only player whose form should be in question is Hawkins. Yes, he's young, but the hands in the back rule isn't that hard to understand and he keeps getting caught behind. At the moment he seems to be in the side purely as a way of stretching the defence, and sooner or later an opposition coach is going to gamble and put someone small on him - and I can see it paying off.
