How about you lay off Jobe for a while, the kid goes in there week in week out and consistently works his ass off for the hard ball and racks up the possies doing the team thing. I'd like to see how we'd go without him for a few weeks, he's about our only in and under player who gets the clearances atm and I know I prefer him over someone like Stanton who is soft and gave it up today more than he used it to our advantage.

3. Watson
2. Dyson
1. Nobody.
but if you constantly put your team mates under pressure and turn the ball over every time he kicks the ball then there should be critisism.

Racking up possies is nothing, not only does jobe give about 20 handballs a game he just can't cut it when it comes to picking up his man and playing any sort of defence, and when he does find his man he's too slow and worn out to win the contest when there's a one on one situation.

My best option for him is to rack up the clearances as usual (In the centre bounce or where ever) then rotate with another player up forward so that he can be in control with his own game, not to mention he has the best hands in the team and can take a pretty good overhead mark.

Some things about him I Disagree with but most the time when he seems to be 'struggling' its because he's playing out of position. (I Flinch everytime he goes into our opponents 50.) One day he'll be an absolute star, but only if he can find the perfect gameplan that fits his needs and the teams.

Cannot think of anybody. Gave Watson the three due to him getting our most disposals.
We played like trash today. Only thing I was thinking whilst watching the humiliation before my very eyes was that once we do come good (eventually) itll feel even greater knowing I waited out our tough periods. Looks a long way away. Gutless performance today. No heart, fight or passion. Absolutely disgusted:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

He has an 80% efficiency rate, how is it physically possible that he turns the ball over every time he gets it?

Watson has some serious strengths but has some serious weaknesses as well. I'm not sure if he is utilised properly or at least instructed properly. They seem to group the players as midfielders and not as inside midfielders and outside midfielders.

Have a look at our midfield. Shane O'Bree is a shocking kick, so he knows to look for a handball and concentrate on getting clearances and not get involved in too much linking running play because he's slow and isn't too silky. Sometimes when Watson gets the ball he is almost in the way, all the players expect him to act like a normal Essendon running midfielder but he can't.

From a Collingwood supporters perspective watching the game today
3. Watson - Works hard and finds the footy, just got to use it better
2. Houli - tried hard all day and doesnt miss a target by foot
1. Dyson - would love to see him get more of the footy because he has some huge potential!

More like 80% efficiency 50% of the time! :thumbsu:

If Watson hands it off to a teammate being double teamed and under fierce pressure with no chance of getting a disposal off... its an effective disposal.

I think you just summed it up perfectly. Watson isn't a link player, he doesn't have the skills of a Lovett or Pendlebury and should never have the ball in his hands streaming forward (unless he handballs to a better option). The way our midfield is playing at the moment exposes Watson far too much, our players should be feeding off his clearance winning abilities.

A lot of people on here argue that Watson is too slow and gets burnt the ohter way, while true it is made to look so much worse by our midfield collectively, which has zero defensive pressure. Collingwood's midfield function as a team and thus players like O'Bree who don't have leg speed are not exposed, only their strengths are utilised.

Probably but niether could hit a target! :D

He didn't too that badly, 80% efficiency

To be fair, he wasn't the only player doing so yesterday, Houli, Lovett, Stanton, you name it - all were guilty numerous times.

Yes, you are right. Lovett only plays every second or third week (tongue in cheek), Houli I'm a big wrap for but doesn't have any helpers, he's had a pretty darn good start to the season and to only have a couple of ordinary games in this his 2nd season of footy I'm very happy. Stanton, going nowhere fast. I know I'm harsh on Stanton all the time but I can't help but think he's very similar to Monfries, got hype as a youngster but now as he's getting older and he hasn't improved people are still basing his game on that hype whereas Monfries is getting berrated for not living up to his hype, I think there's a double standard somewhere in there......

At least Stanton is generally consistent - he will get you his 20+ possies per game and for a 21 year old its pretty darn good in my books. Stanton would be a much better player in a better midfield.

Lovett on the other hand...I've had enough with players promising so much but failing to deliver, the list is endless, Cupido, Rioli, now it looks like Lovett

People giving Dyson votes.. I'm gonna be sick.

3. Slattery - only person to have real dip and play with heart all day.

I'm sick of people talking about how much heart Slattery has or how hard he tries. This can't be denied, but it also can't be denied that he is totally lacking in skill, vision and decision making. These are all just as important as having heart, there are hundreds of blokes running around in suburban leagues that have as much hears as Slatts, that doesn't make them AFL standard players.

Stanton wouldn't get a game in a better midfield. He'd have to play the role of a Rosa, Rischitelli etc... he's not equal to or better than those 2.

I have noticed that you post with alarming regularity negative posts about Essendon. Only reason I noticed is because it is all too frequent. Where is your optimism? It isnt even being realistic. Some of the rubbish that exodes from your posts are disgraceful.

You remind me of this ________ Essendon fan that sat behind me at the Saints came and continuously payed out Essendon the entire game. I turned around and let him know how I felt.
Stop being so negative all the time. Pathetic:mad:

Apart from Ryder, Dempsey and Jetta, there aren't many positives are there?!? Davey is gone for the season, Gumbleton can't get out on the park etc.

I've given up on optimism, I am at realism, Essendon aren't very good... as painful as it is to say I have come to terms with this fact, you'll be all the better for it when the penny finally drops.

I'm not always negative but when referring to Johns and Stanton I see no light at the end of the tunnel and am afraid Essendon has backed themselves into a corner with particular regards to Stanton. It seems rather apparent that Knights plans on building a midfield around Watson and Stanton... how can I be optimistic about that?

Our next elite midfielder isn't yet on our list, not Stanton's fault, he just doesn't cut it.
