Stanton has upted his work rate over the past few weeks, I dished him after the Carlton game but last night on more than one occasion he laid good tackles and at one stage he actually put his body in harms way and went in for a second effort and I thought that piece of play deserves mention on BF.

I'm sorry but he's as soft as butter, his disposal skills have gone out the window and he rarely lays a tackle. I want to know where his skills have gone?? Is the pressure of the no 5 guernsey too much or what??

Benny - I am not sure if Stants was every known for his skills so therefore I do not think there is an answer to your question.

Soft as butter? Well, the reality is that not every player is a bang and crash type.. He is clearly making improvements in this area of his game as was evident by his game last night.

You said that in jest right?

He only had 7 goals kicked on him.

I'm with him. Paddy was not accountable for all but one of Franklin's goals. No-one could have stopped him from kicking 8 on the night. The delivery was perfect.

3. Fletch
2. Lovett

Winderlich, Welsh, McPhee at times, Monfries at times, Slattery.
Paddy was pretty damn good as well, but you can't give votes to someone who was killed like that.

He backed into a few marking contests, and some really solid tackles right in front of me. He's far from soft.

I'm sorry but last night Stants was far from soft

Thats absolute bullshit, he's soft week in week out, and thats generally alright as each team needs an outside runner (Dal Santo type). However in Stanton's case he can't kick either and is entirely self interested, should give the ____ing hands occasionaly. Selfish, soft, slow.

stanton is the softest player at the club. his a front runner and if thats how he is going to play then his disposal and awareness has to improve. who gets tackled in the opposition goal square?

ive been waiting for someone to mention something on stanton, i've been around on the boards for a while just havent taken a bite at anything so far but stanton really has to improve, the number 5 guernsey must be putting to much pressure on him.

although in his defense the only thing in the way is that he is one of the most dangerous midfielders in the side as he dos get alot of dispossals, he just has to use the ball more efficiently.

Bollocks. He's improving considerably every week in that respect.

who gets tackled in the opposition goal square?

That's his teammates' fault for not talking to him. He should be able to run without having to look behind him for opponents. His team should be talking.

the number 5 guernsey must be putting to much pressure on him.

Why would it be any different to Smoken's 24 jumper, or Daniel McAllister's 4 jumper? It's just a jumper. He knows that he's a different type of player to Hirdy; there's nothing for him to live up to.

Agreed.

You have to be kidding me?! Ryder wasn't terrible and didn't do a great deal wrong but to suggest he should be in the votes or to agree with the person who said he should be is just plain ridiculous.

And would you care to enlighten by about Paddy only being accountable for one of Franklin's goals? I would love to hear how you come up with this conclusion.

And btw he kicked 9 goals not 8.

Great game by Monfries. That is two weeks in a row where he has successfully tagged an important defender from the opposition out of the game. McLeod and Birchall are probably still having nightmares over him. May have found a new position for Monfries. Would still like to see him get another crack through the midfield. Im on the fence as to whether we should trade him or not.

Is Mark McVeigh the new James Hird in that we turn a blind eye to his failings?

He was disgraceful on Saturday night, really let us down.
He free-wheeled at stoppages, refused to go anywhere near Hodge at times, especially in the third quarter and as a result Hodge smashed us.

I'm a big fan, but he seems like flavour of the month at the moment and as such we let him off the hook. Can't believe he got votes, thought it was the worst game he's put in for our footy club in the last 3-4 years.

Was thinking that myself. Hodge basically did what he wanted all night yet people are putting McVeigh in the votes?

I guess its understandable considering a few of the people here want Lloyd dropped....

If I thought Ryder was in the votes, I would have voted for him. The midfield of Hawthorn delivered his ball on a silver platter, and there is nothing that Ryder could have done about all but one of the goals, where he was beaten one-one-one in the air. Of the one-on-one marking contests, Ryder won all but one of them. He was pretty damn good. I blame the like of NLM and Fletcher who didn't zone off their men, and cover Franklin. 8 of Franklin's goals were unstoppable.

3 - Stanton
2 - Fletcher
1 - McVeigh

NLM got a lot of touches, but did he do anything with them?? he wasn't even in our top 5

He kept Williams to 10 kicks and 0 goals so i reckon he did his job pretty well.

The fact that he had 27 disposals and 12 marks was a bonus.

Btw - he used it pretty well most of the time.

His best game for the year imo.

Argh. Winderlich is out this week with a sore back. Just when he was starting to get his form back...:(
What a miserable year.

Well next time don't agree with the person who said he was our best player unless you actually do agree with him.

I didn't said I agreed with him completely, I said that I was with him on Ryder being a good player.

It's all semantics. I've had my opinion, you've had yours.

Let's move on.

1. He's a FF, Not a CHB or something like that..

2. Um..That's pretty normal for a first game ruckman...

3. 60m of space in the forward 50? What?

25% game time normal for a ruckmen? even in his first game i would disagree with that. cant be bothered looking up figures to support it but im pretty sure ruckman first game or not get more game time then that

1. whats the use of having players who get no where near the footy would have rathered nights moved him back to at least give ryder some support

3. it was immediately after the game i had had a few beers. obviously you could tell what i meant. 60m of space in the forward line, not forward 50.
watch when he kicks his second goal. robert walls actually comments on it and it happens again when he kickes another 3 goals later...
you cant give that much space to what i think will be one of the best footballers to ever play
