I thought their were 7 clear standouts...those being Read, Chick, Jakovich, McIntosh, Matera, Fletcher and Gardiner. Two of those guys had to miss out on my votes which was pretty hard to do. I must say, a lot of you guys who left out McIntosh should be ashamed!! He gave Neitz and bath and Neitz is just about the best FF going around at the moment. Anyways here are my votes.
5 - Daniel Chick - no contest IMO for BOG. He had 16 disposals, 3 marks, 7 tackles and 4 goals! And it wasnt just the stats that were impressive, it was the stuff that doesnt show on the stat sheet. The pressure, the sheperds, the smothers, the second efforts, just everything about his game. He was superb.
4 - Ashley McIntosh - he's still got it thats for sure. Towelled up Neitz. Still in shock that he wasnt in everyones votes. Perhaps it is all true, it is a midfielders game.
3 - Phillip Matera - was a big part in the 3rd quarter explosion as the livewire forward came alive. I laughed after earlier hearing comments on how quiet and disappointing he had been so far from the commentators. Well he shut them up. Could have easily had 7 or more but missed somewhat easy shots on goal in the last quarter.
2 - Glen Jakovich - was dominant early across half back then when Gaspar went down again
he continued to be dominant but this time across half forward. I really do think he has a future at CHF if he in fact to slow and immobile for his preferred CHB.
1 - Michael Gardiner - just cant keep this guy out of the votes. He had a double double or a triple double if you like with 18 disposals, 10 marks and another 39! hitouts. AA Ruckman stamped on his forehead!
Apologies to Fletcher who got better as the game went on and was great from stoppages and although I havent seen the stats he must have had about 6 or 7 clearances! Phillip Read was also bloody stiff, his 23 touches led the Eagles and he is certainly back with a vengeance.
