At the end of the day. The mature bodies of Tex ,Danger, Sloane and Betts were too much. That will be us in a couple of years

So proud of their efforts. I was really worried that the young boys wouldn't show up on the big stage. I think we've got a special group here. We were unlucky to draw Adelaide. I felt they had been building in the back half of the season. We would have smashed the Roos had we got them.
This group won't waste those goal opportunities in 12 months time.

I've had so many messages from people who never watch the Dogs (no prime time) telling me how good it was and how they hope we get more FTA next year.

Such a shame. We went out fighting and you can't question their endeavour. Extremely hard to win a final like that when you kick so inaccurately and your opponent kicks 10.1 from set shots.

I felt like most of the day we weren't going to win it cause we couldn't string two together to pass them. That 10 point lead in the last quarter we had just teased us that little bit more.

Well done on a massive improvement this year dogs. Looking forward to seeing further improvement next year.

Hey Doggies,
WHEN you make a home final next year, ensure you play it at your home ground. At Etihad you win tonight's game by 30+.

It doesn't prove anything as we get thumped when playing away from there, prefer if the finals reverted to the way they used to be where teams had to play at neutral venues (apart from the GF), that way it shows who the better teams are rather than what teams just play best at their home grounds. At the moment a lot of the teams that make the GF are not the best in the comp, they are just those who are advantaged by playing the finals at their home grounds where the conditions suit them.

Now to look at what we need to complete the list. We have a mix of players last night who were good in patches but couldnt sustain 4 qtrs of effort, players that made some mistakes at crucial times that led to turnovers and goals but in the final wash up, we now need to put last night behind us and move on.

I hope this club can take a good look at our defensive structure over the summer and work that out as we need a good solid KPD who can play on talls and has the body to match. Looking at our current gaps we have a few issues to sort out.

We are going in the right direction and while it may have been a little unrealistic to expect big things this year, the scene has been set. Mark my words, this team has tasted finals defeat in a game that they know they should have won. Thats going to sting and spur them on.

Go Dogs... And you lot, dont get disheartened.

Don't worry about the AFL robbed you stuff, remember both teams hardly play at the 'g' and from an outsider the AFL would be annoyed there is basically not much footy in Melbs this weekend, but you guys really want to play on the big stage I would of thought. Crows were great but you guys had em, poor goalkicking killed you ten times over, anyway, top year, come back harder next year as there are no guarantees in this league.

But us playing at etihad would of gave us the edge. Playing at the MCG was neutral territory. Not a home final for us. As i said that win under our belt would of gave us the confidence to match hawks at the MCG. Can't wait for next year. So what am i gonna do now. I hate cricket :(

EPL?

I totally agree with your comments, it stings. But just have to remember that we were never even meant to be there. The tigers have lost 3 elimination Finals in a row with a much older list.
We will be back better than ever with hopefully a couple of new recruits.

I like your confidence, but Richmond is a great example of how improvement isn't guarranteed.
Lets face it to have the best chance to win the flag, you need to finish in the top 2. Given our lack of homeground advantage through the regular season and the fact that we have less maney to spend on players than most of our opponents, finishing in the top 2 is extremely difficult.

Each year we have to get more right than our opponents just to keep pace with them.
We need to focus on getting back up around the top 4 next year and hope that the current positive public sentiment towards us manifests itself in terms of crowd support, sponsorship and maybe, just maybe, the lucky break umpiring decisions will go our way rather than against us as they have done for living memory.

Honeychurch starting with Caleb sub really cost us....Honey just has not enough tricks to make it and was woeful last night. As soon as Mcclean is in for him the better

spindle when lining for goal has his body turned slightly left. Happened twice and i was directly in line with him and guess what he kicked it where his body was pointing to the left.

thought Minno did well

whoever started that bonti chant before he lined up for his 2nd missed shot in the 3rd quarter maybe u could stfu till he kicks it.

great year heartbreaking loss...cant wait for 2016

Mate I hate the cricket - NHL season starts in a few weeks.

Very sad times, but what a season we had! And what a way to go out. I think we were the better team last night, which probably makes it hurt more. We have a lot of work to do but it will be exciting as always. Our goal kicking was just woeful. Next year we will have a tougher draw but I can't wait to see what we do. Good effort today and a lot of the younger blokes made some key mistakes and had crucial misses. I hope they feel some guilt and self blame as I think that could help motivate them to improve even more. That said, I also hope they can hold their heads up high. We will be back.

You can't forget that we have a future superstar key forward in tom Boyd, still to come into this side. It will be like adding a Hawkins to our already potent forward line in the future!
It sucks we lost. But we can hold our heads high because we were better on the night then the team who won who boasts danger, tex and Sloane who are in their prime. Crows won't even make the 8 next season when danger walks.

Sounds like from Bev's conference that Minson is staying, so no change in the ruck situation. Another pre-season to work on our defensive structures is just what we need, remember our coach only took over in November. We don't need any saviour players, that's what Carlton and Collingwood do.

Don't want to put pressure on him but really want to see Tom Boyd take some strides this pre season and get his body right, whether that be slim down or just get fit. We need him out there

What I took from the presser is that Bev doesn't know what Minson wants and possibly even hinted that he wants a trade.

The dust has settled but the hurt won't for a long time. I would like to add how proud you should be of your football team and the way you play the game. Didn't want to play you guys as someone had to lose and if we couldn't win it I hoped you would.
Play the game the right way, attacking football, hard at it and prepared to back yourselves.Entertaining football that is worth watching.
Got a great crop of young kids coming through and with this next draft you might address a couple more key needs.
Hard to swallow coming from a Crows man I guess but I thought your year has been brilliant, came from nowhere and have been one of the shining lights of the comp.
Good luck for next year, not that far away.

Crushed when you guys lost. Can't imagine how Dissappiinted you all are especially considering the chances you had. You will be right up there next year and I get the feeling your defense will be a whole lot better which will make it much easier to defend a score. Really wanted to see you scare the life out of the dawks but it's not to be. Hoping my second fav team can kill it next year..

I loved the Bonti chant. We need more of it. Since coon-dog left we have nothing that gets the entire ground cheering as one (cooooons). Bulldogs "clap clap clap" doesn't really cut it inspirationally and "doggie doggie doggie woof....." Well, enough said. The entire supporter base got behind that Bonti encouragement. Great stuff. We were only just louder than the crows in my opinion with a hell of a lot more red, white and blue around the ground.

Did anyone else think the sub should have been made sooner? Daniel is too good to only get a quarter of footy.
to be honest , i believe Bev got the sub wrong all together. Possibly hindsight but i think Honey should have been sub and Caleb started on the ground.

Many on here are acting as if next year and the years ahead are guaranteed finals appearances. That's nonsense. We had a great draw this year but next year we will have a much harder draw, and you simply have to take the opportunities when they come up . As someone said earlier, Richmond is a classic case of this scenario, bowing out in straight sets 2 years in a row , and i am confident North will beat them again today ...

No ..... It was one that got away and we should have won the game ...... Simple as that. We had them on toast early but the defenders ball watched and let Betts get off the chain far to easily , allowing them to get right back in the game, and then we kicked poorly, and fluffed way too many chances inside 50 making a mockery out of certain goals. The last one where the errant hand pass went to crameri was a classic example, and then to top it all off, we didnt lock the ball inside 50 and let it get out straight away, which resulted in the final goal to them... It was inexcusable...

yes, it was a great year and im proud of the boys, but you have to take your opportunities and sadly, we fell at the finals hurdle again.. I just hope this is a learning curve, and this loss wont scar them because losing in finals has a funny way of doing this sometimes

Tom Boyd needs to improve massively to provide something approaching even a half-reasonable return on our investment.
He and his manager had the arrogance to demand the big bucks, now he has to perform and show he was worth it.
That ridiculous trade and contract has the capacity to cause us enormous grief. We simply can't afford to pay a million dollars a year for a VFL player. Not only is it a poor use of salary resources it could also lead to resentment within the rest of the playing group.

I hope the massive contract hasn't created confidence issues for the kid, because we now have some tricky list management issues of our own making as a result.

Boyd needs an enourmous pre-season and intensive coaching. The club needs to ensure that it happens and that nothing is left to chance. He has had his grace period.
