I have to disagree with the people who say our history of near misses isn't relevent to the current crop of players.
We might have a different set of painters but they are painting on the same tilted and bumpy canvas from the same location at the back of the class with a restricted view of the object of desire.

The same hurdles that tripped up our teams of the past remain as obsticles that the current crop need to overcome.

When you get treated like an outcast, it is difficult to avoid behaving differently as a result.
The playing field is tilted, it is not in our favour, everyone knows it and behaves accordingly. There is a lot more pressure on someone who knows that they have to make all the right moves to win, compared with someone who knows that they will be cut a bit of slack if they slip up.

Our challenge is to push our way to the front of the class and fight against the current to stay there long enough for everyone to start behaving as if we naturally belong in that location. Then not only will we hopefully get a fair go, we might also be able to act like we expect it.

This group and coach will not be effected by history that's cr@p talk by people even more negative than me

And if people seriously think we could beat the Hawks and then Freo they are kidding themselves. Big bodies win finals that is a FACT and with our size and age I honestly believe there is no way we could have win though to the GF.

I'm totally gutted and losing to a team I have absolutely no respect for(supporters) makes it worse but I think this group is different to any we have had since I've been alive and the coach definitely is so if we continue to be brave I'm more positive than I have ever been

Hope the crows get smashed next week then Danger walks .. Now that wild make me happy

Commiserations to your mob. Gotta admit I was slightly annoyed at having to play the Dogs in the first week as I was hoping to to see you go further in September. That game was a fantastic spectacle and could've gone either way. Don't be too harsh on your boys. You should be proud. Best of luck for next year.

I know I've given you guys on here some grief this year, but in all honesty I couldn't help but cheer your boys on tonight.

It was a fantastic quality game, and all I can say is, you guys fully deserved your place in the finals, and but for the wayward kicking for goal, I reckon your brand stands up and would have won the game if you'd kicked straighter.

Great effort this season, and it's clear that you guys are going to be a major threat sooner rather than later.
Same to you reaper! Hopefully your captain will one day learn what it takes to stand up in a final

And Bontempelli will one day learn how to kick clutch set shots from 30m out directly in-front. :thumbsu:

Both our teams have suffered from a case of bad match-ups, imo.

If you guys had played North, you'd have beaten them, because your playing style suits playing theirs.

If we'd played Adelaide, I think we'd have beaten them too, because our style suits playing them.

Both our teams got opponents that we traditionally don't handle very well, and it showed at the end, because both of our teams are out.

It sucks, but life goes on, and Cotchin and Bontempelli will be better players for it. :)

Well said but for the record Bonts took Jacobs to the cleaners.... Just sayin

Didn't Adelaide recently beat you?

Didn't Adelaide recently beat you?

Yeah, they did, but over the past 3-4 years, we've generally been able to handle them pretty well.

I would have felt infinitely more confident in playing the Crows at the MCG, than I did coming up against North. That's not to say I think North are better than the Crows, I think they're about even, but match-ups and certain game styles are critical, and it seems that North generally have us well covered in contested possession and with their talls, whereas we can normally negate the Crows style of play much better than North's.

In a similar way, the Bulldogs' fast rebound brand works better against North than it does against Adelaide.

Both teams have good futures I think, but the pressure really ramps up on us now after 3 years with no finals win, and the pressure for you guys comes in the form of a much tougher draw in 2016.

We played and beat the Eagles, Swans, Crows, North, Tigers this year, so bring on a tougher draw next year.

The bont is the kind of kid that won't hold mental scars believe me. He will learn from that. He stepped up big time last night. He didn't look out of place.

He will rectify this next time

Is anyone else tired of everyone saying how easy how draw was and it will be so much harder next year?
This year we played some of the bottom teams twice but lost to the lions, saints and dees, so no great advantage there, we had to play a home game in Cairns against a QLD team, the hawks in Tassie, the cats in Geelong and we played the eagles (now premiership favourites) twice for 1 win.
Bring on the so called harder draw in 2016, we can beat anyone.

We played and beat Hawks, Swans, Freo, and it counted for nothing when we played a team who is inferior to all 3 of those teams, but simply matches up well on us.

Finals isn't just about making it, it's also about having some luck when you're there, with who you play, and also playing well yourselves on the day.

Personally, I think we need to revert the finals tree back to the old formula of the 90's, where it was 1st v 8th, 2nd v 7th, 3rd v 6th, and 4th v 5th.

This current system gives too much scope for the 5th or 6th placed teams to just have one poor game and be gone.

Under the old system, the finals would be as follows:

Fremantle Vs. North
West Coast Vs. Adelaide
Hawthorn Vs. Western Bulldogs
Sydney Vs. Richmond

Whilst both our teams may still have lost, we almost certainly would still be in the Semi's next week playing the opposite opponents.

This current finals system is shithouse. :(

Agree, he is a once in a generation player who i hope with Stringer and the other young guns will lead this club to our long awaited flag. Thought he was great last night, did some amazing clearance work. As i have said previously it is a game of inches, his first shot goes through doesn't hit the post and we win would be lauded as one of the greatest games of a 19 year old. I think because he is so good already he is getting huge expectations put on him.

Sorry, for the record I wasn't trying to talk shit about Bont in my response to the poster on here, I think Bont is a superstar in the making.

I'm just saying that even superstars lower their colours, like Bont did against Adelaide with those set shots, and unfortunately like Cotchin did against the Kangaroos.

And as for your draw, you can't say that it didn't help you guys somewhat this year, however I think your team will continue to improve next year, even with the tougher draw, and finish in that 5th to 7th range. Maybe even Top 4 if they can get a good run on.

I was categorically wrong about the Dogs this season, you guys have had a fantastic season, and I deserved all the abuse I got from you guys for consistently underrating you.

I'll be a big follower of you guys next year, and I really do hope you guys continue doing well, your club deserves some good fortune. :thumbsu:

The current finals system is 10X better than anything else that can be done or has been done.
Can't you sulk elsewhere?

Thanks.
Hope we meet the Tigers in a final that is a semi or later next year.

I thought the game against the Crows was the best game I have watched all season. When you are watching on the TV and your team is not involved it is easy to get distracted, I certainly didn't last night.
All Dogs fans should proud of the way their team played last night and this year - congratulations!!!

So an Adelaide supporter thought it was a good idea after the game to walk up and clap in my face. I merely pushed him on his arse as he deserved, now I am treated like a criminal by my girlfriend and she doesn't want to talk to me. What a great night!!!
You did the right thing Mate.
