I think it comes back to the "duty of care"

Duty of care...One could argue even Essendon have been reported for jabbing their own players...;)

The one saving grace should either one of or both Merrett or Clarke cop a one week suspension is that Carlton are not exactly blessed with big men outside of Waite and the resting ruckman.

It will obviously be bitterly disappointing if Merrett gets more than a week with Collingwood and Cloke due the following week.

I had a bit of a think last night and came to the same conclusion.

Patfull should match up pretty well on Waite, and with Kreuzer out I'm not going to be too worried over McKeever on Hampson from what I've seen of Hampson's marking and kicking so far this year.

Justin Clarke will unfortunately go for a number of weeks, not sure how many.

I fail to see how Merrett can lose matches over that? The ball pops out about half way through the tackle, it looked like Merrett thought he still had the ball. Put it this way, if Hurley didn't drop the ball would Merrett have been suspended?

Big test for Voss coming up if we do lose both Merrett and Clarke; can't rely on our attack from the backline.

Same. Just need Merrett back the following week vs the Pies to take Cloke.

Yep, if Merrett is fortunate enough to be offered one week, although that may seem unlikely if as someone suggested he has carry over points, we simply taking it and run. The MRP also take into consideration Hurley's medical report, and let's face it, that will not be favourable, so it will be highly unlikely he walks away from this scot free.

Merrett could get one week if he's just graded as a week suspension pre-plea, given the carryover points.

Kreuzer's playing this week, so I'm not sure why you don't think he'll play next week?

It's a real shame Goose is still down. I think we can potentially cover Clarke with McKeever, but there's no real like-for-like if Merrett gets done.

I reckon we can cover one, but if lose both, we'll be in a bit of trouble.

Goose's situation is intriguing considering he played reserves against the Swans a fortnight ago and despite being named to play GWS, pulled out. Let's hope it is nothing serious in light of Merrett and Clarke's imminent suspensions.

I think Merrett's is an interesting one.....I can see both sides of the argument....if he gets pinged I hope the Lions show the footage of Merrett getting slung with 15.24 left in the last quarter....he gets his hand down in time so the force to the head is avoided....I would argue that it was a normal tackling motion.....

As for Clarke....well that was just stupid and he will pay for it.

I think Merrett released the tackle early enough and didn't slam him down with that much force. If Tim didn't go into bat for his side and try to get Merrett the death penalty and if Hurley wasn't subbed out he'd be fine.

Clarke's penalty comes down to the medical report. At the time it looked bad but Kavanagh came back on and seemed fine.

I like your positive approach......but the media are beating this up.

Clarke definitely dropped the shoulder....I think he should be rubbed out....would not like to see one of our players hit from behind like that....it was a gutless cheap shot.

Fully expect Merrett to get 3-4wks...Clarke 1-2.

Don't forget guys, we are the enemy from over the border!..can't have them coming to town and upsetting the local lads.

Just tuned in and the first thing they mentioned was Kreuzer and came on here to quote myself - I thought it was a longer term injury. Or I could bluff it out and ask we can really call what Kreuzer does playing, or if it's just faffing around pretending to be an AFL footballer. :P

Due to the unpredictability of the MRP, I'm not so confident that Brown won't have a case to answer for the manner he crashed into the pack following the skirmish that ensured following Clarke's hit.

At least they're not getting suspended for hitting an opponent in the nuts Shaw or Fyfe style.

Had thought that myself......memories of stranglegate abound
