vs Melbourne this week.

As a supporter of the team that have been the league whipping post the last 3 years, and one that usually loses games they are supposed to win even in our finals years this game makes me nervous.

I also have a fond spot for Richmond due to family that followed them for years.

Using that as my gameday criteria I am predicting a close game.

Your forced changes haven't helped your cause (yet I applaud you taking the tough stance, its needed - we did the same).

All in all I hope its a good game with my team bias hoping for a Melbourne win by about 3-5 goals.

DL.
This game will be close, both teams having only kicked 1.8 up until half time last week, Melbourne against a vastly overrated Adelaide team and us up against a rampaging Swans team.

If we can actually get some scoreboard pressure happening early who knows what might happen.

The added unknown territory of being favourite is also something to consider.

Goal conversion = win in this one.

Even more embarrassing when they start telling you:

"Jamar could be a handful in the ruck, winning the clearences will be crucial i think"

I almost swallowed my tongue when l saw Mark Jamar being nominated as the match winner. FFS, that poor excuse for a footballer is a filthy puppet.

You obviously haven't watched Jamar this year then?
Jamar>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Simmonds

Adelaide were playing a very defensive style of game, made it hard for anyone to score. The weather conditions were awful, really strong winds made it nearly impossible for anyone to kick accurately.

Do you even watch football?

Jamar has been the second best ruckman in the entire competition so far in 2010.

Jamar might be the second best with his hitouts, but around the ground he doesn't have a huge impact, needs to take more marks and kick some goals to be a well rounded ruck, he's better than anyone on our list though. Also Maric and Tippett are hardly much competition at hitouts, thought Maric was better around the ground, and Jolly's so out of touch at the moment, not to mention Renouf. But i'd take him, he can only get better really.

Keep that back pocket free santa. Whispers gets more right than wrong, and this is looking serious.

They talked about who would be stand in captain.

I think Deledio should be chosen. Could be that extra motivation he needs to take the next level.

Totally irrelevant but did anyone else see the Beijing player just come onto the field in the AFC game against Victory. His name is Wang Xiao Leong, but it's abbreviated on his shirt to...wait for it...
WANG XL:D

IF it turnes out to be true, Lids would be the first option i reckon.

The other thing Healy said, if its correct Melbourne will probbably start at $1.15:eek: Rebuilding/transition year or not, thats sad:(

It's worth noting that while everyone's talking up Melbourne ATM, they're favourites in the match largely on the basis of retaining a bloke born in 1976 (McDonald), getting a mid-career cast-off from Brisbane (MacDonald), still playing Green and Bruce (who at 29 & 30 will almost certainly not be part of Melbourne's next premiership tilt - we could very nearly add Jamar considering his height), and persisting with a raft of mature but very obviously sub-standard players like Newton, Bate, Jones and Moloney.

You can't on the one hand be happy to have pruned much harder than Melbourne has, yet also be upset they are quite possibly better than us, but largely because they've kept a fair few players who wouldn't have met our criteria to be retained last list cut.

good points rayz, and Im not convinced the outs we have from last week is necessarily going to weaken our side with the likes of thursty and collins to come in both I would expect to have at least the impact of Luke and Coonors...i think we'll make a game of it

I was thinking about this myself the other day, although if you compare it to us we have:
Cousins, Newman (who at 28 will probably not play in our next premiership), Tuck, Simmonds, King, McMahon (granted he's not playing games but he's still on the list), Polak (same as McMahon).
So we aren't that different.
It's just that our old guys are shitter than theirs.

I'm interested in this last point. Could you please list the players that have been retained by Melbourne that wouldn't have survived the cut at Richmond.

FWIW, Melbourne only has 3 players on its list over 26 years of age... all but McDonald will be around for our next "premiership tilt". We've cut very very heavily under Bailey.

Hmm McDonald, Bruce, Green are all seasoned finals campaigners I'm pretty sure they would have met the requirements of Hardwick's strenous list cuttting. Out of the others you have mentioned it's worth noting that Bate, Newton and Jones are all younger than Delido so there not actually that "mature".
