Well, we almost managed to do the unthinkable in the last few minutes.

I don’t give a flying **** if he is unhappy with the coach, you’ve won 2 Syd Barkers and All Australian and you’ve played like puss all ******* year.

Start looking in the mirror Shaun because your performance is on you.
He shouldn’t be playing then but it seems our senior group aren’t required to reach a high standard consistently

He is a giant tease mate.

He's our tease.

Back to the game.

I've seen this nightmare so many time. But anyone remember that game against St Kilda a few years back, maybe 6 years ago where that big dud from West Coast played for us.

Tonight was exact replica..... We haven't learnt a thing.

You could tell from very early on that we weren't switched on. Even with us kicking the first few goals Sydney had had plenty of the ball.
Conversely Sydney were collectively switched on and manic from the beginning. Hunting in packs, they barely let a tackle slip all game.
Too many of our players just go missing. Consistently. Let tackles slip. Making stupid decisions such as bombing over and over and over again.
Too many players panic and **** themselves under pressure. Skills and vision go out the window. Class is poise under pressure.

These are consistent themes of Brad Scott's coaching over a very long time.

When we beat Carlton a few weeks ago, a team sitting 18th on the ladder, I was appalled to see the reaction of the coach. How happy was Brad.
He was basically heralding himself as the man to continuing taking the club forward. Beating up on a team on it's knees does not excuse him for the rubbish and tripe that he has been overseeing him for so long now. The only person he fooled was himself. North supporters are not stupid.

And you wanna know why we need Scott Thompson in the side (apart from his footballing ability)?

Because when that campaigner Blakey was getting into our blokes every single contest and mouthing off, he was the only one with the balls to say enough is enough and put the little prick back in his box.

That means something for our young blokes to see.
Thompson was putrid tonight. He’s an imposter who zones off for cheap possessions and dishes up the fake tough guy stuff. I can’t think of any reason he would be in the team moving forward. Watson would have been better tonight

Apart from our putrid coach and game plan, if you replaced McDonald, Turner and Macmillan with Hall, LDU and Ahern we win that game by 6 goals ... and don’t get me started about Thompson who should make way for Durdin next week. I can only think we are tanking

So frustrating - I think we need a better mix in the centre - often now when the contested mids are winning the ball there is no pace to run the ball out. I can only recall Simpkin doing this of late. Thats why LDU is must to be in the mix as well. We have way to many half foward types in the side again who dont run through the middle. Back on the coaches at the selection table. Also why would a half fit Macdonald come straight in gees.

What I find increasingly frustrating is the dire reliance on our backline to hold on for as long as it can whilst we continue to butcher the ball going forward. When Tarrant kicks a goal to get us going, you know we got issues. Midfield seems almost like a skyscraper ready to collapse whilst the forwards get smashed to bits.

Brad Scott had years to mitigate or even completely remove the issues with depth, pace, skill, fitness and his ability to drag and drop players into a position without killing their ability. He needed to build a list capable of performing in the most crucial situations, and when it can comfortably win by 60+. He has achieved very little unfortunately.

The team doesn't feel fluid, doesn't feel comfortable and it shows just how badly Brad has made his game plan worse. By continuing to fall back on old tricks to keep his spot, he will only continue to hinder the future development of young players. A truly devastating effect. Utilising a horrible handball style that continues to screw up and our everlasting inability to look remotely good consistently, just mounts even more unwanted pressure on Scott.

He cannot develop a style or system that can replace players without crashing the entire system. No Daw? Concede heavily. No Jacobs? Lack of defensive structure. No emphasis on skill or pace? Forwards being double teamed or completely nullified by turnovers and pressure.

Worryingly, depth to Brad is last resort, not a versatility measure. And that pisses me off the most tbh.

He had been so reliant on the previous gen core senior group to keep the ship afloat that he completely halted development in crucial areas. Areas, that were issues then, and are still issues today. Delist/remove those variables and we lose a lot of stability for a rather weak structure.

Falling back on outdated styles that just make things worse sum up Brad in a nutshell. He gets things wrong and the consequences are catastrophic.

He needed to set the benchmark early in his coaching career and he didn't.

When the team does its own thing, it looks ten times better. This speaks volumes to Brad's current understandings of the players and the game itself.

His added input into a already horrible system further keeps his side away from a premiership.

Well at least we are consistent, you know what you are going to get from North every week.

Lose centre clearances.
Brown being outmuscled by a bloke half his size.
Tarrant and Thompson saving us from getting smashed.
Not taking contested marks.
Missing easy shots on goal.
Jmac turning it over at will.
Brad Scott getting out coached.
Barely any young players being developed.

There are no suprises with this team anymore.

Well said amaz. For me the inability to develop a game plan ahead of the curve after ten years cannot be accepted any further.

I think Brad is extremely good at recognising what is happening at the time, but the foresight to institute a cutting edge game plan is just not there and that is essential for your senior coach if you want to win a flag, particularly when rule changes like 666 are implemented.

I was at a friends 40th so I didn’t watch a minute of the game (and didn’t really follow the scores all night). Was that a good thing?

Loyal servant but he was awful today. That spoil on Tarrant which cost us a goal was Benny Hill stuff. Being a hard man against a 7 game rookie who just laughed it off and played a fair game shows zero leadership. He wonders why 50/50 contested marking decisions don't go his way. Roughie plays 2s. Thompson will play the rest of the year in this team.
