He didn't even commentate the match, he talked about the game for 2 minutes at the end before they went to the Geelong game. He was just doing his usual schtick, it was fake and came across as it.

What a terrible injustice.

Why, with under 2 minutes left, and a 1 pt lead, did the whole team, but sadly demonstrated at least twice after taking game saving marks by Tazza, play like we were 1 pt behind ? continuously kicking to a contest up the line.

Whatever happened to icing the clock/ playing possession footy/keepings off for a minute ?

So so dumb.

Yeah whatever you reckon, go watch the selwoods go to work and redefine your definition of a ducker.
It’s still ducking.

Going to ground knowing that an opponent can’t tackle is prior opportunity. As soon as he is wrapped up on the ground it should be holding the ball.

This team needs to be drilled into a system that (barring atrocious skill error) can guarantee ball retention when required.

Costs us many games.

It’s something I want to see in 2020.

Obviously that was an immensely deflating finish, but realistically we were completely outplayed for the middle two quarters and lucky to be in it at the final break. From there, we put in a full quarter of the exact kind of hard graft that will see us win more matches than not, closing their options down and dominating play - they just pulled out a freak goal to pinch it at the end. It's absolutely gutting, but we can't expect to win if we make it as easy as we did for them to move the ball around like we did for half the game. And the umpiring does warrant a mention, not because it was biased but because it was plainly inconsistent, blatant frees were frequently missed (trips, throws, clear holding the balls), and the overall impact of that inconsistency was in their favour...

From a coaching side of things...? Clearly I'm no expert, but it looked like we were a bit shapeless in the third quarter, kicking to our forwards' disadvantage or picking out the wrong options often - not sure why, maybe we tried to change something up and it just didn't work out? Much better in the last, even if Atley's late turnover was a seriously bad judgement. Not sure we did enough before then to fix up our leaky centre clearance work, we're still far too one-note there and it still seems like all our opponents get easy clearances far more often than we do. In general, it just seemed like they were ready for us and worked to constrain us a bit, whereas we allowed them to get a fair chunk of the game on their terms. If Shaw gets the credit for our turnaround, our rediscovered hard ethos, and the defensive grind that got us back in front in the last term, then those issues are on him too. Still, nothing today stops him being a solid candidate for senior coach next year - just a few areas that need improvement, because no doubt, with the value of playing the way we have been, other coaches will work on shutting us in much the same ways as today.

As for this board and its whipping boys, it seems people saw what they wanted to see. McMillan was ordinary, had a shaky start then put in some good efforts, only to badly misplay the contest with Laverde late in the last term, whilst Hrovat was above average, very dynamic early and put the pressure on their players plenty after that - neither were super today, but the incessant criticism of those two is unfair when there were quite a few others who were worse or not much better today. I'd actually like to see Hrovat stay in for a week or two, to get a proper look at what he can still offer (and not just as a late inclusion)... although he might be the one who goes out to get Higgins back in.

It looked more like deliberate decisions than incompetence to me.
It’s incompetence by the umpires.

Lowering or ducking is prior opportunity, plain and simple.

He does it all the time, because you can’t execute a tackle that won’t go high.

I don’t mind if he attempts it, just pay the free kick if the player wraps him up on the ground and high contact should be play on.

Lol!

Someone who continually defends a guy that is continually costing us games is the definition of clueless.
Just got home and I’m fuc$&ing livid.

Umpires were disgusting. Glad to see the AFL have realised that the white pri$$s cause supporters to go nuts because of the disgraceful way they umpire towards certain clubs eg NMFC. The orange men stayed away from where I was as they knew Razor deserves no protection. He is nothing “short” of being a gutless turd.

MacMillan putrid. Pathetic attempt to mark in third quarter when he pulled out of the contest. One of many examples of how shit a footballer he is. Last quarter he kicks it to a scum player when he had 2 North players on. Most piss weak tackler I’ve ever seen . He can never play again.

I’m not even going to comment on Atley’s kick which a 13 year old would know better not to do. Surely he would have known kick it to the harbour wing out wide for a stoppage at worst.

Ratt - goodbye. Words can’t describe my disgust for you after that last quarter shit kick to BBB and the softest tackle in the last quarter.

Shaw - if you make decisions like you did today to play blokes like MacMillan and Ratt you will be coaching in Bali next year. You cost us today - MacMillan was Brad’s lover but surely you have enough intelligence to realise he is a rubbish footballer.

We can't do anything about pace mate.

All the drills in the world won't make us that much quicker.

Skills? Sure, needs heaps of work. It cost us rolling over the top of them in the first half.

Like it or not, * have matched up well against us over the last couple of years.

It’s footy. Some lineups and systems work better and worse against others.

Stop Cunnington and utilise pace?

Jed & Jy's first half and Ahern whole match, is the reason we lost in the middle.

They break even there and we win by at least 8 goals.

just watched the last 2 mins on the afl site. ATley's panicked kick in the centre was appalling, there were guys around him he should have given it off to. TW's goal was complete arse. When there's only a goal in it, luck is a factor and it didn't run our way today. Still a lot of upside from todays game.
