I don't usually blame the umpires for a loss. But when you lose by 5 points and there were at least half a dozen decisions and non-decisions that directly impacted the scoreboard, it makes me angry. I am happy to be corrected, but I can't recall any of our goals being kicked with the aid of a questionable umpiring decision. Yet I can recall at leas 6 of theirs.

FFS, how long will AFL be putting up with that clown Razor Ray? He was responsible for most of them.

In particular, I would like an objective discussion about the free kicking when a certain player whose name I can't spell slips and falls on his arse - should there be no benefit of the doubt given to the tackler who can't possibly readjust in a split second when a player goes down like that? Wouldn't logic say a play on decision is fair in such a case?

This loss is just so hard to take, I can't get over it. Yes we didn't play at our best, but we were in a winning position with 17 seconds to play despite several key umpiring decisions were directly responsible for their goals. FFS.

Yeah, just not this time. He was our worst player. Comfortably.

I post this to highlight the absurd inconsistencies of others as much as anything else.

If someone harps on bagging the cognitive bias example, then glide past this bloke, then they're a putrid judge of football. Simple really.

I pick my fights wisely.
Ummm……………...I don't think you really want to start a discussion about the relative financial resources of our two clubs, do you???
Here we go. Yes, yes, we all get it, you have so many supporters. Not sure why, would've given up after the utter disgraceful and pathetic display of this "financially resourced" club a few years ago. You should have been stripped of all finances and made to beg for a VFL team, cheats.
Could I just ask, how do you personally benefit from all of your many supporters? I would've thought it would be a right pain in the arse having to sit next to so much scum week in week out.

We were probably lucky to still be a sneaky chance going into the last qtr. I think they kicked 6-7 points in a row in the 2nd qtr and should have been well over 30 points up at h/t. Their inaccuracy kept us in the game. An old Bomber geezer sitting behind me got talking to me at 3 qtr time and said that we were still in it and that *Ess would shit themselves in the last, a bit like we do sometimes when we have leads. I told him that their pace was killing us....again and that I couldn't see us stopping them. I gave him a wink as I left. The Close Scott losses over the past decade has conditioned me I guess so didn't really get too upset. I thought overall they probably deserved the game but we really shouldn't have lost a lead with 30 seconds to go. The Dogs game last year comes to mind. That's footy, shit happens, you only have to see to what happened to NZ this morning in a World Cup final to see a true sporting tragedy. How stiff were they?

Well since you asked me a question (loaded as it is with venom and bile) I guess I'll give you answer.
I'm pretty proud of the Essendon supporter base actually. As you say yourself, you and many other feeble supporters of many clubs would have given up in similar circumstances. I'm not going to engage in an argument about the rights and wrongs of the saga, except to say there were (IMO) many more wrongs inflicted on the club, its players, officials and supporters than any wrong done by the club. Argue if you like, but it's a long argument neither of us are going to win if you want to go down that path.
The Essendon supporter base stuck fat. 2016 was a proud year for us. If you don't understand that, it's because you're not an Essendon supporter.
I don't mind the majority of North supporters, or the majority of supporters of all the other clubs. But some of the ferals on here are a disgrace to themselves.

Our club all but vanished in 2007.

It’s the same narrative every year!
- Stringers a $*** bloke
- Team of soft downhill skiers
- Finals drought
- Drugs, Drugs, Drugs and more Drugs

What’s in the latest bag of excuses?
- Our outs hurt us (We have them too)
- Our selections this week hurt us
- McDonalds injury hurt us (Call it even with Hurley)
- Umpiring killed us

I thought it was a good hard fought game! Unfortunately for you guys there’s no bragging rights this week.
Suck it up like a champion and move on. BB on fire and kicks a bag of 6, take some positives out of it.
Stop crying like a little B****, unfortunately the minority of BigFooty supporters give the club you love so much a bad rep.
Another year without the Chockies Boo F***ing Hoo, the better team won. Until next year....Kanga, Kanga, Kanga
Okay good to know all Essendon fans are great.

Boo hoo, you got caught cheating (not for the first time). We’ve been put on the relocation platter, season after season, and have gone through many financial troubles. Essendon wouldn’t know a hard time if it punched them in the face. A year long holiday for the players, and a fine that would have been payed off with change found underneath one of your corporate investors couches was merely a slap on the wrist, compared to what it would have done to us, St Kilda, Bulldogs etc. It’s easy to stick fat when you have virtually infinite financial backing when compared to other clubs smh.

thank the lucky stars i didn't understand that

Let me see.
Disqualified from the finals when we had earnt our place and were a genuine chance.
Loss of 4 draft picks (offset by one later compensation pick)
DIsqualification of club coach.
$1m fine
Eventual suspension of 12 players for a year.
Life changing character assassination of Hird and Thompson as part of the AFL PR campaign to "manage" the crisis.
Yea, that's just a slap on the wrist compared with North having to worry about being pressured to relocate.
North are/were under pressure to relocate solely because after 95 years in the competition, they haven't built enough of a supporter base to make them financially viable.
I'm not having a go at the passionate supporters that North do have. Good for you.
But I'm proud of our big supporter base and how we stuck it out through the trials of the saga.
It is because you don't have an equivalent supporter base that your club has the problems you talk about.

All North’s issues with having a smaller supporter base stem from being cut out of the VFL at startup, despite being a strong enough club, by the jealous bastards up the road. So not taking lectures about it from *, thanks. North came into the VFL with a significant disadvantage and worked very hard to overcome it, a level of effort * has never had to make.

On the other hand. Every penalty from the PEDs saga was deserved and it’s only because the AFL values cash over any pretence of integrity that the club wasn’t banned from the competition altogether.

Fair enough. 95 years nowhere near enough to overcome that sort of hardship.

If you bother to read a bit of history, you’ll appreciate that the first 30 years were extremely influential in creating generations support for the founding clubs. EFC wanted to grow in that part of town without the competition and after cutting North Melbourne out it did and has stood on that foundation ever since.

Just save the smug satisfaction that you inherited these benefits.

I suppose you think I and the other 80,000+ Essendon members only support the club as a consequence of the club being in the VFL during 1897-1927. (It would seem University didn't benefit from that early access to support)
Spare me.
Anyway, this is supposed to be a game review thread, and, bit by bit, the bitter phobias of some North posters is turning it into some sort of review of the supplements saga, history and the hardships of your club (supposedly imposed on you by Essendon).
Give it a rest and move on.
